Snapdragon Inn is nice but no frills, offers great value, and is centrally located to everything you may want to do while you're in the area. Despite staying here New Years weekend it was surprisingly quiet. Accommodations are clean, simple and spacious. Our bathroom offered a tub and shower with a heated bathroom floor that is a must have in the winter months in Vermont. All rooms have cable and a DVD player so bring a movie and they also offer a small collection of DVDs. They offer a simple continental breakfast. I'd recommend trying the waffles with their maple peanut butter sauce. And my favorite drink was the chocolate mint tea. As for the town of Windsor itself, not much going on, but easy access to Hanover, Quechee, and Woodstock. Things you must do while in the area....walk the grounds at Dartmouth. Beautiful historic buildings and architecture. For the I'll college town experience eat at Molly's. Get the Brussel sprout and arugula salad....amazing. Spend an afternoon at King Arthur's flour taking a class. Well worth the money, we had such a wonderful time. Bring ziplock bags to store all your baked goods. Reserve a table at Simon Pierce with a water view. Though expensive it's worth the view. One morning, skip the continental breakfast and grab breakfast at 4 Acres Diner for the full old school diner experience.u

The bath tubs is great and the heated floors were a great plus we weren't even aware of before hand .Breakfast was Great! Pekka and his wife were very nice and helpful and recommended great places for food and entertainment . We took the drive from Baltimore to Vermont for a couple days away and it was totally worth it . We will definitely be back ! We couldn't say enough great stuff about the owners and the Inn !

We stayed for Valentine's weekend (3 nights), and it was like being welcomed into someone's mansion. The place is beautiful even in the winter snow. The accommodations are like stepping back in time, but with some modern amenities as well. The bed was a four poster antique replica with the most dreamy mattress. The in-room electric fireplace was nice within our spacious room (junior suite). Having Andy greet us every morning at breakfast was lovely, and the plated meal was delicious. We also enjoyed a bottle of wine and some food in the pub. An added bonus was entertainment one night by a talented duo. Recommendations for outside the Inn dining was provided by Andy along with some "must see things" as well. It was very nice "stepping into the historic past" at this beautiful Inn. A slow pace and a relaxing wood fire in the lobby was just what our weekend called for. We're planning to go back in warmer weather to see the grounds in all their glory and experience what other seasons have for visitors.

Nestled in the grounds of the lovely retreat, Gather offers a small but well refined menu. Located outdoors, lawn-side candlelit tables ring 2 fire pits. These have comfy chairs for enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail. The atmosphere is classy and casual with friendly hosts and severs who take time to answer menu questions and be sure you have what you would like. With a full bar, vast wine and beer list featuring local selections, and a variety of non-alcoholic beverage options, there is something for everyone. Our meal began with a flavor packed broth soup, featuring lemon, parsley, chicken and rice. The hearty portion was perfect for 3 to share. Next came the salads: baby greens with pickled onions and homemade vinaigrette, and rubbed kale with cranberries and nuts. Delicious! The swordfish main is crafted with an amazing balance of sweet blueberry sauce and a touch of cayenne to make the flavors pop. The chicken dish featured a tasty glaze and features grilled lemon, a surprise twist. Both mains were served with a veggie side and atop smashed potatoes- creamy and flavorful, and with lots of texture. Dinner was capped by the featured dessert, blueberry lemon panna cotta. So smooth, creamy, and heavenly! Just the right amount of citrusy syrup to complement the richness. Gather features fresh and local ingredients. This family owned and run restaurant is one of many endeavors Lisa and Jonathan Burr have successfully fully created. You will not be disappointed with your Gather dining experience!

You enter at the front and the tickets are sold in the gift shop immediately on your right. The lady selling the tickets was friendly and chatted with us. She said there was a tour starting at 11 a.m. Another guy wandered in who turned out to be the guide. After a little confusion, he led us through the building to a sunlit room towards the back. Here they had some chairs set up facing a TV. He first discussed a bit of general Shaker background with us and then started the ~ 10-minute video about them. It was interesting. The video ended at about the same time that another group of 3 German tourists was escorted back by the ticket lady. Our guide seemed a bit torn, and asked if we wanted to see the video again. We deferred, figuring that we could wander around outside for a few minutes (it was still only around 10:40 a.m.) before the tour. He then started the video for the new group. We walked around some of the buildings and took a few photos now that the morning fog had burned off. We then went back in and asked the ticket lady about the tour, as it was then around 10:50 a.m. She said that it may have already started, so we walked back to the video room. The guide was indeed discussing a topo map of the site with the Germans. We joined in and the tour then began. This was interesting; he discussed how the building was laid out (mostly to allow separation of the male and female Shakers). He showed us the basement workshops / storage areas as well as the common dining room. An older couple passed us at one point early in the tour and headed inside. A couple of minutes later, the ticket lady led the couple back to the tour group. They had intended to join the 11 a.m. tour (at 11 a.m.) and were somewhat irate that they had missed part of it. The staff tried to be helpful and offered them a refund, but in the end they settled down and just joined the tour. I sympathized with the couple in this case - if you state that you have an 11 a.m. tour, it seems like you should at least designate where to meet (presumably at 11 a.m.). The tour here just seemed to coalesce at some time in the neighborhood of 11 a.m. We continued touring the ground floor and then made our way upstairs to the 2nd floor, where there was an even larger central room for worship services. The way the builders included cabinets in almost every part of the interior walls, and how they arranged shutters for the windows, was quite interesting. Note that one of the 'simple gifts' that the builders were not able to include here was an elevator. Hence, if you have mobility issues, climbing the stairs between floors may be something you should factor in to your planning. The tour then headed next door to a church that the subsequent owners (a Catholic organization) had built. The interior was interesting with plenty of stained glass. Our guide wrapped up the tour with quick stops at a couple of mostly gutted outbuildings. It was about 12:10 p.m. at that point. I thought this was an interesting site. You should just allow some flexibility on tour timings.

Yes, it's an inn so small and a bit older, but that just adds to the cozy charm and makes it a perfect northern getaway. Breakfast is included and made fresh. You choose your options ahead of time, which was great. The TV in the room is small, but it fits the cozy vibe. There are plenty of books and games in the lobby and extra room for entertainment. One small note, I'd recommend staying in an upstairs room, as some of the floorboards creak and I imagine the sound carries to rooms below. Since we were only there for a short time, we mainly interacted with Peter at the bar and he was fantastic. He even added something to my drink to make it sweeter. As we walked in, there was a group of folks walking out with satisfied looks on their face and one gentleman said, "Enjoy your dinner" with gusto. We entered the quaint lobby and followed the signs to the dining room where we were greeted by several friendly and helpful employees. They offered us a seat at the bar while they prepared out table and I had an amazing smoked old fashioned. We were seated shortly and from there on, the evening just kept exceeding expectations. Our waiter was really exceptional. I can't recall his name but he made the night extra special. We started with spicy tuna bites where we great and a perfect size for an appetizer. I had the surf and turf special which was really great. I sampled some of my husband's NY Strip and it was also very nice. We tried to save room for dessert and I had an exceptional peanut butter bar. That was awesome. My better half had a pistachio brulee cheesecake. It had a good flavor but I thought the texture was too soft, but to be honest is was good. It just didn't meet the same level as everything else. The atmosphere the whole night was wonderful. The place as low ceilings and there were a lot of tables so I thought it might be too loud but it was perfect. The hospitality oozed warmth, every person I interacted with was lovely and we left with big smiles on our faces. If we'd run into anyone coming into dinner as we were leaving, I'm sure we would have told them to enjoy their meal as well. Highly recommend Weathersfield Inn for a meal.
