An amazing retro theater in Central Mass you need to visit! I go here monthly at this point to attend JR's "Spooky Sundays". Context - There's a horror collectible shop in downtown Hudson called "JR's Spooky Shack" - and one Sunday a month (sometimes two) we head over to the theater to watch a mystery screening of a horror film. It's a great time! What makes it even better is the theater we watch it in. It's an old theater but kept up really well; super friendly staff, plenty of concession options, great prices and visually a great looking cinema. The theater has been renovated, much nicer than it was. They show current movies and its convenient. We went to the 7:30 movie and there was only a small amount of popcorn left in the popper. I asked for a medium popcorn and they were reluctant to make any, then told me they would make a small amount. Instead of waiting for it to pop, I went back to the movie. 20 minutes later I was given the original leftover popcorn, which filled the bag about two-thirds. Yes, I know it's popcorn, but I am complaining a out the principal of it. How difficult would it have been to make so.e fresh popcorn? read more

Visited the newly renovated theater recently and was pleased with the improvements. We went on a dreary, rainy day...and so did every other family in the surrounding area, it seems. Our bad, we chose a kids' movie on a rainy Father's Day so yes, we acknowledge that was poor planning on our part. However, they started the movie 15 minutes late and, after arriving a half hour early in anticipation of the crowds, we were anxious for the movie to begin and for the rambunctious children to settle down. While the interior (walls, flooring) was updated, there's no way the seats were replaced. Because the theater was so packed we did not have the luxury of moving around to find seats that weren't either caving in or where you couldn't feel a spring in your rump. If they did replace them, which is doubtful, they are already in disrepair. We're thrilled that the local theater was revived and an uncomfortable seat won't keep us from returning on a not-so rainy day on opening weekend of the movie. read more

Support local! This movie theater pretty much has it all! From the vintage feel of it to the cheap prices which, to be honest, probably haven't been inflated since the company's opening. Plus, when you go to a less popular movie, it feels like you bought out the theater, since there's no other people in the there with you! read more

I'm going to be candid. I'd absolutely recommend the Fine Arts Theatre in Maynard if the manager that we deal with wasn't so rude, power hungry and disrespectful. I don't know her name but she's a dark hair lady with a strong accent. The first time my wife and I held an event there was for our eldest. We rented out the cinema and invited school friends. While giving our information to the manager over the phone she made a very big deal about telling us that we would be charged extra money if we arrived late or stayed late. She then proceeded to force all of her rules onto us and didn't allow us to ask questions. I was so blow away by her lack of care that I almost told my wife to find a different venue... but I didn't. The first event was fine other than the rude manager. Today we had a second party for our second eldest daughter. When we arrived (we got there early by about fifteen minutes) the manager approached my wife and warned her that we'd be charged extra for being early. She then said that she'd waive the fee. What ever happened to friendly customer service? (Don't threaten your customers if you plan to keep them.) Before we left I was supposed to settle my bill. I have four little girls and was going a bit crazy trying to get everyone out the door. I eventually made it to my car to get the kids loaded and totally forgot that I had to close out the bill. Within 15 minutes of leaving "the manager from hell" called me and told me that I didn't pay. But rather than being kind her tone was nasty and seemed to indicate that she thought I was trying to avoid paying. So, I promptly explained that I rushed out and apologized for my mistake. I asked her if I could pay via telephone using my credit card because we were headed to take my daughter out for a birthday lunch. She said "No we can't do credit card over the phone, you need to cancel and come back here immediately to pay." When she said that it really pissed me off. Who is this lowly manager and why does she think she can tell me to cancel my daughters birthday lunch?! I'm not her god damn employee, I'm a customer for God's sake! When I explained to her that I'd come by after lunch her story changed. All of the sudden she was able to accept my payment over the telephone! So, just to clarify. First she couldn't accept my payment and ordered me to cancel my daughters birthday lunch to pay my bill. Then when she knew that wasn't going to work she could all of the sudden accept my payment over the phone. Seems to me that this manager has some serious control issues. Now, I'm all fairness the other staff were very kind, very helpful, and very respectful. But the manager, I don't ever want to deal with her again. Honestly, I'm not sure why her staff even stick around given how she talks to them. The core of any business is get and keep happy customers. Well, I'm one customer that is not happy and will not go back until after that manager is gone. Everything else about the place is great. read more

I keep coming back to Fine Arts Theatre Palace for three reasons -- none of which are the incredible A/V system or the comfy seats: 1. They have first-run movies, and they are the most popular ones you want to see. 2. I love being able to support a local, independent business and movie theater. I hate shelling out $12+ for a movie at a huge national chain. I'd rather give my $9.50 to the "little guy" to support a community gem. 3. It's convenient as anything. Right down the street, free, copious parking, options for a pre or post-movie dinner. Definitely worth checking out a movie here if you're in the area. As an aside, this theater ran The Force Awakens from opening day. It never sold out. There were no crazy lines. We saw it Sunday night with about a dozen other people, when the nearby chain theaters in Woburn and Burlington were close to sold out. read more

I really like the feel of this place. For the low ticket prices they charge, I was expecting the interior to be rundown and not well maintained. But my impression was quite the opposite. Everything was clean and orderly. Staff was friendly, the interiors of the individual screens had character (extremely rare for a cinema), and the bathrooms were clean. The theater seats were nothing to write home about but they were certainly not uncomfortable. Extremely happy to have this so close by! read more

The theater looks great, much better than before. Owner Steve Trumble was very friendly and appreciate of my compliments. Staff was friendly and fun. Prices are more reasonable than big chains. We went on a $5 weeknight. Temps outside were cold, low 20s. Unfortunately, it was very cold inside the theater. My nose was cold throughout the movie. When the film started, the focus was blurry and the sound level was low. That was rectified within 5 minutes. My friend and I, who are both tall, found the seats to be less comfortable than those in other theaters. They are low to the ground, cramped, and one of your legs run into cup-holders which are hung behind ever other seat. If you don't like crowds (like I don't) this is your local theater to patronize. You can see a film in a relaxed atmosphere without having to compete with a large crowd for your seat. read more

First time seeing a movie at the Fine Arts Theatre Place in Maynard. What a sweet gem of a place, a real old-school movie house. Great atmosphere to see a movie, but it's not terribly comfortable by new movie theater standards. The seat was tight and there was not a lot of leg room. Otherwise, the popcorn was fresh-popped and delish, the fountain drink was cold, the staff was pleasant, the place was clean. What more can you ask for? One of the welcomed features of this theater is their mixing in classic movies and art house cinema with current first-run showings. We saw the fascinating "Finding Vivian Maier" which was a one-off mid-week showing, and it drew an impressive audience. I'll be sure to keep an eye on Fine Arts' schedule as it is great to have a place to see art house features without having to drive to Cambridge. read more

Excellent small town theatre. Far more affordable than the big chains. Movie choice is great as well. They bring in the big blockbusters opening week and will also show the Oscar Nominated movies I typically have to head to Boston to see. Free parking right across the street and plenty of great restaurants for dinner and a movie within walking distance of the theatre. The owner never seems to stop putting money into the place to keep enhancing this community gem. read more

We have been going to the Fine Arts since it reopened in the fall of 2014. We love it here. We can take our five year old son and we know he will have a great time. I love that it's cheaper than other larger theaters, and the concessions are affordable too. We usually go for the matinees with my son, but I've also been at night and it's great that I can walk downtown and have a bite to eat before a movie. The decor is art deco and I love the old movie posters in the hallway! It reminds a lot of the theaters when I grew up. A real gem in Maynard! So glad that we have something so unique here! read more

Slap me off a piece of that rhubarb pie! I love the Fine Arts Theatre for everything it's worth. They have beautiful screening rooms and an incredibly diverse selection of snacks to enjoy while watching - including my favorite, the aforementioned rhubarb pie. It's unbeatable! read more

Only two theaters (third being renovated) so this is not a huge multiplex, but it does show first-run movies, and often is not sold out for the hot movies that are hard to get seats for at the bigger places. And at a lower price. Kudos for the renovation, and for hiring local. read more

The renovated theater is AWESOME! The bathrooms are lovely, and everything is shiny and clean. The theater was very comfortable. We are so, so, so happy that it has reopened. I was frankly surprised at how nice the decor was. I was also delighted at how cheap it was: $32.50 for two tickets, two small popcorns, two bottles of water and one box of candy. Well below the price of the national chains. read more

This is a great little local movie theater, with much more charm and pleasantness than your typical multiplex chain. They have a great variety of movies that rotates often. Also, no endless commercials before the movie! Highly recommend this place. read more

This is a great family friendly movie theatre. Everything has been redone. Prices for snacks are average of what you would find any other movie theatre. The staff is polite and helpful. Mostly high school students from the area. Which I think is awesome! The sound system is good but not great like you would find at larger movie theaters. read more

What a community gem! I love going to the movies here and so appreciate what the owner has done to save this neighborhood theater. The renovations are great. It's clean, comfortable, has a great audio system and screens, and is so much more affordable than the mega-theaters. Granted, it's not fancy and doesn't have elaborate, reclining seats, but it's a great, convenient place to catch a movie. Best of all -- you don't have to go to the mall! This place it wonderful... especially for the price. Even their nighttime movies are cheaper than AMC's and other chain movie theater's matinee prices. The concession stand is the cheapest I have ever been to. Only $4 for a good size popcorn. The place was very clean, and the bathrooms were nice. The chairs are relatively comfortable. I just came from the Fine Arts Theater Place where my grandsons birthday party was held. It's a great little downtown movie house with a great modern/retro vibe. The theater staff assisted my daughter in setting up the party table and we're most accommodating throughout the event. The children were each given a snack pack as part of the party package consisting of popcorn and bottled water set in individual lap trays. The film (Cars 3) was shown at 10:00AM, after which the children gathered in the party space for cake. What a great "low-fuss" option for a kids party. Just a couple of hours, which is plenty and everyone left full, happy and entertained. The staff went right to work cleaning up popcorn spills and as we were leaving they had the place all cleaned up and ready for the first Sunday matinee! Will definitely visit again (without 25 kids)! read more

I love that this theater is in the neighborhood, you can easily walk around downtown Maynard, grab dinner and then walk over to the theater. There are never long lines, it is very affordable to see first-run popular movies, the movie selection is great, and the concessions are a good selection and not as expensive as chain movie theaters. The movies also start quickly since there are minimal commercials or previews. It's a locally-run business and the recent renovation is very tasteful. Everything is clean, the ambiance is great and transports you back to a time when going to the movies was a special event. There are no loud crowds of teenagers trashing the theater or bathroom or fighting in the hallways like at the chain theaters in the mall. It is family-friendly. The seats are what I'd consider standard for a movie theater, they are not recliners like at some of the larger megaplex theaters. There are 3 theaters now, there is a main screening room that maintains the original history of the theater and feels very special in this day and age, so if you can see the movie there, that is optimal. There are two other smaller theaters, which are kind of small, but what I'd consider standard for a small theater. The service, cleanliness, ambiance, overall good experience, and affordability make this theater my number 1 spot. read more

I've seen a few movies here since the renovation and each time I've been happy with the experience. The ticket and concession prices are much more reasonable than the larger chain theaters and sizes for drinks are much more normal as well. The best part about going here is that you don't have to sit through 45 minutes of advertisements and trailers before the movie starts which makes it such a better experience, especially if you have kids with you. read more
