Beautiful morning view from the Architectural Suite balcony

Aww yeah it's yo boy PG who was living large at this place. Lying in the hammock listening to the birds while reading a novel was a peak experience. Delicious breakfasts and incredible ambiance at this historic site. Loved the espresso machine that grinds the beans. Hats off to Emma (great job making the apple butter for our toast) and Casey for amazing service. Loved the super cute baby goats. Beautiful view from the Architectural Suite balcony!

The property is beautiful and Casey and her husband were truly remarkable hosts. I was scrambling last minute to find someplace to stay during a holiday visit to relatives and feel so very lucky that the Mayhurst Estate was available. The property is beautiful and so thoughtfully decorated and well cared for. There are numerous places to sit and relax, fire pits abound, and the walking trails are gorgeous. The cottage is perfect. Romantic, cozy, and well tended. It has a wood burning fire place, stove, fridge, extra comfy bed and so many other beautiful touches. It is truly a very special place run by an amazing couple. We'll be back!

We had a wonderful weekend at Mayhurst! The service, the rooms, the food, was all to perfection! Loved the baby goats and romantic add on options! Thanks for a beautiful weekend in Orange!

    So relaxing & inviting.

Exquisite place to stay. The Cashells are wonderful hosts & go above & beyond. The perfect quaint place to stay when visiting the area. Definitely should visit during the holidays. THE BEST.

Beautiful place to stay. Very welcoming and kind hosts. They even let us pet their goats. Bed was extremely comfortable and the house is kept well air conditioned. Food was AMAZING. Best breakfast I have ever had! Their apple plan cakes are amazing! The only concern for me was the staircase because it is historic and very old. I was very scared to bring my 1-year-old up and down. If you are coming with children I suggested requested the bottom floor. I wish I knew about the stairs sooner...it just proved to be extremely stressful for me the entire time. Overall, it is a great place to stay if you are looking for a little getaway in the countryside! I would come back again (without my child) haha.

We own and operate two major art schools, Bridgeview in New York City and Blue Ridge in Orange, VA. And we have been hosting our art retreats/plein air painting classes for our students at Mayhurst since 2020, when we moved to Orange, VA. We have had probably a dozen large groups coming there where we rented the whole property for 23 or so persons including singles, couples, large families with children of all ages. One of the biggest draws of our retreats is Mayhurst itself. Our participants have come back on many occasions with us and also on their own after discovering Mayhurst. There are just so many features that draw our visitors to Mayhurst. 1. Historic and beautifully preserved picturesque property with old trees and hedges, paths, a goat farm, a beautiful Monet-like lily pond 2. The personable and hospitable family that owns it. The Cashells will immediately answer to any of your concerns/requests and make sure you feel welcome and happy there. 3. Great place for children to experience true country living, freely run around the property, play with the owners' kids, fish in the pond, and get a lesson in artisan crafts like carpentry, metalsmithing, goat milking etc. 4. Most delicious breakfast cooked by Jason, the owner. We've had groups where half of the people would have various dietary restrictions and the Cashells satisfied all of them, making dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian. The owners go far and beyond in their hospitality. We tried to work with other places in the area and many were excellent, but nothing like Mayhurst. 5. As an add-on Casey is a professional photographer and does beautiful photoshoots for the whole family. Therefore, if you are thinking of having your retreat/master class or reunion in Central Virginia - Mayhurst is your place, no question about it.

My husband and I were married here on 5/26/19. We returned for our first anniversary. We stayed for 3 days. They are now "Mayhurst Inn & Estates" as they have new owners. They have begun remodeling. I have posted some pictures. They are doing an amazing job! They have a pond on their grounds. I had no idea. You can canoe or kayak. We canoed. It's a small pond but it was fun. They are remodeling the many buildings on the lands. They have remodeled one. They have several more to go. They are also remodeling the interior room by room. I'm so excited to see their progress. They do excellent work. They are clearing out the grounds of dead trees and weeds. Then will be planting fields of flowers, herbs, orchards, and garden food which they plan to cook with. They have live goats. They plan to get other animals as well. As a scratch cook myself, I think what they are doing is fantastic. I wish them great success. They are very helpful and kind people. They helped us organizing our outings and plan our dinners. They provided an amazing breakfast promptly every morning. Their French toast is to die for! We can't wait to go back.

What a hidden gem! Absolutely stunning rooms and the grounds are just as cool. I will be coming back with my family again. The goats are so amazing we cuddled up with them it's a must to stay here. It's going to be a traditional trip for us

YES YES AND YES. One of the best bed and breakfasts I've ever been to! We stayed in the Southern Charm room for New Year's Eve and it has a jacuzzi tub that faces the fireplace. Jack and Pat are THE most accommodating hosts. And so nice. Talk to them! They are very well traveled and have lived everywhere. In the house they have menus of the surrounding restaurants so you can choose where you want to go to dinner easily. They also host a "wine social" for a couple hours where they offer wine and appetizers. So delicious! On New Years they supplied a couple glasses of champagne and it was a blast! In the morning their eggs Benedict was off the charts. I was so stuffed from the previous night but wanted to finish it. They even had a baked apple with whipped cream for dessert. I was in love with the house. In our room they had water bottles and chocolates, and a sound system with a Tchaikovsky cd of romantic classical tunes as well as a nature sounds disk. This made the experience extra special. We will definitely be back.

I stayed there this past weekend (my son lives in Orange and it is the only hotel in town). Very sketchy crowd. Pot being smoked opening all weekend day and night outside of private rooms in public areas. Homeless people and drug dealers living in the parking lot coming inside the hotel to use the bathroom, get water and the pool. Two such people tried to get into my room in the middle of the night. Same night there was a huge fight in the hallway so bad I was waiting for shots to be fired at any minute. It went on for over 45 min. Management is well aware of all of this and tolerating it. However, the manager on duty said the pool card swipe wasn't working, and we went and tried it and it was working, he came by while we were in the pool (during hours) and then the next day the pool was closed because of the "pH levels." I liked the room and the breakfast was good for an included continental breakfast, but they really seemed shifty about letting us use the pool to a point I'm pretty sure there was nothing wrong with it but he didn't want the responsibility of cleaning it. And it was a big pool with a hot tub, so when it was cold out, that came be a gem. Alas, management really knocked this place down from a 5 to 3. I contacted Comfort Inn about it and got a super generic "sorry about that" email back, so don't expect too much from this chain.

Parking is not included, so their website is a bit misleading on this. There is street parking that's free but it's 2-3 hours parking. No big deal but definitely misleading information from the hotel. Here's the thing. We would stay here again though. It's more like an airbnb than a hotel. There's no one working at the suites so there's no bells and whistles when it comes to service. But the suites were large, nice, clean and near all the things we wanted to do and see on Davis street. We would make sure we got a room w a steam shower next time (our suite had a nice large bathroom and shower but not a steam shower) and we would absolutely make sure we forced an email w our entrance pin out of them before we arrived.

Before booking, I specifically asked the reservation agent whether the "suite" was a true suite--defined as having at least two separate rooms--and was assured that it was. Upon arrival, we discovered that the room was simply a larger single room, not a true suite. When we inquired about availability, we were told that the hotel considers larger rooms to be suites. Because we were tired and did not want to search for alternative lodging, we chose to stay. However, we require a separate bedroom so one person can sleep while the other watches television, which only a true suite provides. We are disappointed by the misleading description and believe this practice reflects poorly on the property. As a result, we cannot recommend this hotel and feel it therefore warrants a low rating.

She offered to cancel my reservation or accept the new nightly fee. I had no choice but to accept the (RIPOFF!!!) new price as it was too late to find other accommodations (they didn't exist for many many miles around, more than 50 miles away). Upon checking in we we immediately greeted by a young woman who was clearly learning how to check people in, and by a female manager on duty. When we settled into the room we asked for two blankets because the air conditioning system was too cold on the floor for us and the beds just had a sheet and decorative cover and no blankets in the room. When we went to the lobby and asked for 2 blankets the manager said she'd only give us one. We reminded her we had two beds not one. She pretended to go to look for 1 more blanket in a store room but returned saying they didn't have any more blankets. The hot water didn't work at all, so no shower or bath possible and there was a spider and numerous ants in the room, at least 3 of which crawled on the me during the night and my clothes (gross but not detrimental). The "free" breakfast was typical garbage low quality hotel food - scrambled eggs from a package, greasy sausage and bacon, pancakes. Not food I'd ever eat. Overall I don't recommend this establishment at all.
