Bacon & Egg Sandwich
Calli Y.

I am so glad I finally got to try this place. I didn't even realize they had a cute little patio outback. So we opted to sit there on a beautiful day for brunch. The staff dresses in regular cloths so I didn't realize who worked there and who didnt. Very casual feeling. Cute decorations! I got the Chicken Shishlik and it was delicious!! I read all the reviews and was very happy with my choice. Great color and great flavors! The other 2 dishes my friends got also looked great! Everything looked great! A little pricy but that's the way it goes these days! I definitely want to go back for the supper club! Looks great! SYOY!

Drinks were poured swiftly, mirrors where available for photos and bar tenders were tending lol

Lamb shank

What an adorable place! From the decor you would never be able to tell this is spectacular Mediterranean food. It's pink. It's vibey and they have great cocktails. Get the white melon Negroni and thank me later. For starters, we got all the dips and GIANT chunks of challah bread. The red pepper walnut dip was my favorite. Then we got the borekh (a sort of filo dough samosa) and the fried eggplant. You want this. The green zhoug sauce is amazing. We also got the zatar spiced fried chicken and the lamb shank. Excellent meal! And excellent service.

I really enjoyed this restaurant! The ambiance was great and the family style meals are the way to go! We were a group of 4 so for $60 a person we could enjoy the Supper Club meal where we get all the starting dips, and 2 of each of all the meal sizes. It was plenty of food for the 4 of us. We even had some leftovers to take home. The cocktails were all very delicious. I had a dessert wine because I wanted something sweet to drink. My family enjoyed the cocktails because they preferred how they weren't as sweet as other cocktails. I liked all the dips and the challah was absolutely amazing. My favorite dip was the hummus. I really liked the snap peas (which is saying something because normally I can't stand the taste of them) but they were seasoned very well. The fried eggplant was definitely my favorite veggie dish of the night. I highly recommend that dish. Some other memorable dishes we had were the lamb meatballs (the sauce it came with was delicious) and the steak. For dessert, I recommend the sticky bread pudding. It was served with a generous school of vanilla bean ice cream and it was the perfect end dish for the night. We hope to come back to this restaurant again soon!

Twice cooked Sweet potato

Had a chance to try Mayfield when in San Juan Capistrano with friends for lunch and this was a great option with awesome food. This spot has delish Mediterranean food with lots of flavor and a great ambiance. This is a nice spot to bring friends and family with really good service. For food we got: * Rip and dip - this came with 5 dips and challah bread which was awesome. I loved all the dips but the muhammara and the date labneh were my favorite! This dish was absolutely perfect for sharing * Twice cooked sweet potatoes - this was absolutely divine as the sweet potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. This was my favorite dish it was that good! The sauce on the bottom complimented the sweet potatoes perfectly * Cauliflower shawarma - this was also yummy with a nice tahini sauce - my only wish would be they put more sauce on the dish next time as it gives it so much flavor *ZFC - this was the zaatar fried chicken sandwich and it was very flavorful with juicy chicken. This also came with French fries which was really yummy and the perfect side to the sandwich Overall we had a great experience trying the food here!

Shakshuka, dips (all 5), Avocado Toast, Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes, Cauliflower Shawarma, and The Morning Person

Reviewing solely as a brunch spot, this is a definite 5/5. The menu has a ton of variety for tasty shareable and individual food items, hot drinks, and brunch cocktails. With a great light and airy ambience right off of the train tracks, it is a relaxed and cheery spot to enjoy good food with good people. Wait staff was helpful, attentive, and friendly. FOOD/DRINKS -Rip & Dip: got all five dips and all five were excellent. The challah to go with it has a wonderful soft texture that is easily devoured by itself or with any of the dips. Honestly just order more challah. -Twice Cooked Sweet Potatoes: who knew that sweet potatoes could be this creamy and still look like sweet potato strips? I was not expecting how delicious these would be. Definitely on the sweet side (like a sweet potato casserole without the brown sugar and walnut topping) -Cauliflower Shawarma: expect a whole cauliflower with tasty sauce drizzled all over! The sauce makes it on this dish. -Shakshuka: excellent consistency and taste; the feta cheese is a perfect addition and the flavor is spot on. -Drinks: all beautifully presented! Really enjoyed the spices of the golden latte and they all congregated to the bottom, which was a good sign of it not just being a mix. Can't speak for dinner, but brunch is a success here! Yes, on the pricey side, but not for San Juan Capistrano. Would go again!

Dips and bread/veggies combo at Happy Hour!

Cute little spot- came here before a concert at Coach House! Good atmosphere and server was attentive. Food was okay- not a repeat! Popcorn served at Happy Hour was delicious! We had the dips and bread/veggies combo- feta with spinach was good, as was the date Lanbe, the baba ghanoush was a miss! Some of the cucumbers served in the veggie selection had soft and moldy parts ! They do have a fun cocktail menu! The Turkish Delight drink was very good- not too sweet! The squash was okay and the zaatar fried chicken was good - but not life changing. Overall it was a nice dinner, but wouldn't need to rush back!

Mediterranean dips and challah
Michelle G.

Still absolutely love this place. Second time here for different flavors. It's a must try! Got the 5 different Mediterranean dips with challah. Delicious! All favors are so different and perfectly created. The cauliflower shawarma was just as good as first time if not better. Get it if you enjoy cauliflower. It levels it up like you've never tasted before. The branzino with couscous and squash, got to say was a bit bland and a let down. Not much flavor compared to everything else. Service is on point and the ambience is so clean farmhouse culinary cuisine it's great.

Date Labneh Dip, feta dip, includes 2 Challah Bread

Incredible food, service, and value. We ordered lots of different dishes and the only thing I'd say is we needed more table space! The challah was insanely delicious and I LOVED the complementary popcorn with za'atar I think? So good and such a nice touch to the service.

Always have a good time at Mayfield -- the cocktails are original and delicious. The food (especially anything with eggplant) is so good. The servers feel like they are having fun and enjoy being there ... which makes me want to return.

Perfect place to chillax

Mayfield was a lot of fun. We came in on a Sunday afternoon, just before the full kitchen closed for afternoon snacks. The place wasn't too packed, and we had the most awesome server, a young fella (can't remember his name because.... I'll get to that later) that supposedly has a strong squat game in the gym. Great server, great energy, and gave us some fantastic cocktail suggestions. Shout out to the Baba Ghanoush and avo toast. I don't know what was in the "noush", but it was probably one of the best I had. But that avo toast..... uniquely crunchy with all the right veggie fixins, this was the first time I felt like my avo toast had some actual substance. If you can only get one thing, get the avo toast.... but only if you have broad palate. Boring traditionalists may not get it...... but hey, stay boring. This style is clearly for the elevated with personalities far above a bumper sticker. Now.... the cocktails. Oh the cocktails! (and the reason I can't remember our server's name.... not because I drank a lot, but because i don't actually drink a lot). First, after a long drive, I had to start with the espresso martini. Great espresso base, so this one went down fast and easy, like my first college freshman hookup (Ivy was her name.... wow... that was 20 years ago, and I still remember!). The second was strictly recommended by our squat commando server: the Aztec Old Fashioned. You've GOTTA see the picture I included. It was like playing with a lightsaber... if it was a cocktail. Fun to look at, fun to sip, this one is for the bold and brave. If you wear socks to bed, drink this, and you'll man up and kick that practice. Absolutely loved it. Huge shout to the Turkish Delight cocktail. I generally don't like gin, but good lord, when the wife ordered this, I was actually jelly.... FANTASTIC cocktail. Ok..... that's all I remember... because apparently those 2 cocktails (ok... and 3 generous sips of my wife's cocktail), knocked me out enough to have to watch a movie across the street, just to take a nap. I'll definitely be back!

Shakshuka
Daph H.

Mayfield is a beautiful restaurant in San Juan Capistrano, by the Los Rios historical district. We came for brunch and were seated at one of the open windows overlooking the street. Our server was fantastic and I loved that she took our orders from outside the restaurant, on the other side of our open window. They specialize in Mediterranean food. My husband has been looking for a good shakshuka and their version of the eggs in a fiery tomato stew ($19) was exactly what he wanted! I chose the Big Sabich Sando ($19), with falafel and grilled eggplant, which was good. It's a little on the pricey side, but the setting is quite lovely. Got my eyes on the cauliflower shawarma, which the LA Times said was worth the drive! Hourly parking available in the public garage down the street.

Black Manhattan

Absolutely will be back. This is another one of those restaurants where you'll need a fat wallet to try, but it's worth it. They have the menu divided into small, medium and large plates which is great because then you can try many things but beware of the prices because it'll catch up with you when the bill comes although we all had more than one drink and we ate very. That said, every dish is really well thought out, absolutely delicious and unique in flavors. I think the roasted sweet potatoes were my favorite. Such a beautiful crunch on the outside. Service was also 5 stars. The bartender, the servers, the hostess, everyone was polite and attentive.

Their website teases that food is coming soon. It is a fairly small place and I would definitely recommend making a reservation on Yelp. If there are no reservations available when you want to visit, they also have a Yelp live waitlist. The building has its own parking lot with about ten spaces and is shared with the sushi speakeasy upstairs. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sunday night, and luckily there were still quite a few spaces available. A half hour later, the place was packed. The outside of the building is not marked. Enter through the red double doors in front, walk to the right, and the entrance will be easy to spot. Seating options include eight seats at the bar, four high-top tables in the main area that seat four people each, and a slightly raised grotto area with one four-seat table and two two-seat tables. We often like to sit at the bar, but I reserved a table in the grotto so we could get the full experience and I'm glad I did. The interior has great décor with a mix of tiki and pirate ship elements. The walls are wooden plank, with cargo netting, ropes, and tiki lights above. The walls have portraits of Goonies movie characters. Take two steps up to the grotto area, and you are inside of a cave with skulls, shells, and treasures embedded in the cave walls. There is also a small waterfall in the corner. Scan the QR code on the table for the cocktail menu. It is colorful and many of the drinks have names tied to The Goonies. Each drink also has zero, one, or two skulls next to it to indicate the booziness factor. They have quite a few original cocktails as well as classic tiki drinks, a few mocktails, spirits, beer, and wine. I started out with the Ash Landing (Hamilton Pot Still Blonde Rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara Rum, Hamilton Pimento Dram, Angostura Bitters, Pineapple, Lime, Ginger, One Skull booziness, $14). This was definitely a little on the boozy side, with good ginger flavor and the pineapple and lime in the background. She started out with the One-Eyed Willy (Pou Vodka, Lychee, Guava, Coconut, Sweet & Sour, $15, keep the mug for $65). It is rare that a vodka drink is my favorite of the night, but this was both of our favorites. It was very balanced and juicy, and not boozy at all. The guava, coconut, and citrus from the sweet and sour were all there. We bought the mug, and they bring you a new one in original packaging. The purchased mug is colored a little differently (blue instead of black) than the mug the drink is served it, but it still looks great. While walking around taking pictures, I ran into our server and mentioned that it was my girlfriend's birthday. He kindly brought us some shots on the house. He said it was a recipe they had for shots during Halloween, and it tasted like a spin on a kamikaze. It was very good and much appreciated. I have a hard time resisting a cool mug, so for my second drink I ordered the Slick Shoes (Planteray Pineapple Rum, Worthy Park Rum, Bounty Dark Rum, Strawberry, Papaya, Lime Juice, $17). It is served in a cool sneaker mug with a flaming lime half on top. It was nicely balanced and just a tiny bit boozy. It had a nice light fruit flavor, not overly sweet at all. I think it is sometimes served in a regular glass, so if you order it, be sure to ask for the sneaker mug. Her second cocktail was the Never Say Die (Producer Mezcal, Kiwi, Lemon, Mango, Grilled Pineapple, $14). The smokiness of the mezcal was on the hairy edge of being too smoky for me, but she loved it. She could taste the kiwi and mango. We shared one last drink, the Garden of Eden (Papa's Pilar Blonde Rum, Lavender, Lemon, Elderflower, Cucumber Bitters, One Skull booziness, $17). It had an interesting (good) floral flavor profile, and didn't strike me as boozy at all. I could definitely taste the cucumber notes from the bitters. There was good 80s music playing in the background. It's a Goonies themed bar, I get it, but we would have enjoyed a few tiki songs in the mix too. There is one unisex restroom out in the lobby area. It is nice that they also themed it with wooden plank on the walls and ceiling, and some nautical décor. Daniel was our server and was very friendly and provided great service. Thanks again Daniel for the birthday shots! Bartender Felipe also delivered one round of our drinks and was also very friendly. All of the drinks were good and there are definitely more on the menu that we would like to return and try. We had a real fun time, thanks Lost Inferno!
