A must stop for any goonies lover. The entrance leaves a lot to be desired, but I suppose it add more to the magic and experience once you've entered. It feels like we're are navigating the caves from the movie and the bar is the treasure ship. Once you enter there is decor and memorabilia spread throughout (whether any of it is authentic or not I'm not sure) they have speciality drinks after the movie and the bartender was very attentive. Really bummed out. My husband grew up in San Clemente, loved tiki bars and his favorite movie was The Goonies. He sadly passed away recently and his memorial is this weekend, so we tried to go to Lost Inferno to celebrate him with all his high school and college friends. We called in advance and the person we spoke to said we couldn't make a reservation unless we could guarantee 20 people, but we could walk in with a smaller group no problem. Of course we got there right when they opened and they told us they couldn't seat us for an hour. We joined the wait list and walked to a bar a couple doors down waiting for the text that our table was ready. We received a text that our table would be ready at a specific time and then 2 minutes before our table was supposed to be ready we get a text saying we were removed from the wait list with no clarification or follow up. I understand being busy/booked up, but I would have liked to have received accurate information. We could have made reservations online if we had been told. I wore his favorite Goonies Hawaiian shirt and everything expecting to have a nice time talking about my husband. I guess I'm glad we never had the opportunity to experience this level of service with my husband, and guess I won't be back seeing that he's dead and all. Had a hardy har har good time at The Lost Inferno. The theme is an awesome transformation from pirate's galley to a cave complete with skull and bones water fountain and pirates treasure. Loved it and the drinks were delicious. It is located in an unassuming Japanese restaurant lobby which was so cool. Like a portal to another time and place in the South seas. The Lost Inferno is a tiki bar in San Clemente that is themed around the classic 1980s movie "The Goonies". It is a drinks-only bar for now, so eat before coming. Their website teases that food is coming soon. It is a fairly small place and I would definitely recommend making a reservation on Yelp. If there are no reservations available when you want to visit, they also have a Yelp live waitlist. The building has its own parking lot with about ten spaces and is shared with the sushi speakeasy upstairs. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sunday night, and luckily there were still quite a few spaces available. A half hour later, the place was packed. The outside of the building is not marked. Enter through the red double doors in front, walk to the right, and the entrance will be easy to spot. Seating options include eight seats at the bar, four high-top tables in the main area that seat four people each, and a slightly raised grotto area with one four-seat table and two two-seat tables. We often like to sit at the bar, but I reserved a table in the grotto so we could get the full experience and I'm glad I did. The interior has great décor with a mix of tiki and pirate ship elements. The walls are wooden plank, with cargo netting, ropes, and tiki lights above. The walls have portraits of Goonies movie characters. Take two steps up to the grotto area, and you are inside of a cave with skulls, shells, and treasures embedded in the cave walls. There is also a small waterfall in the corner. Scan the QR code on the table for the cocktail menu. It is colorful and many of the drinks have names tied to The Goonies. Each drink also has zero, one, or two skulls next to it to indicate the booziness factor. They have quite a few original cocktails as well as classic tiki drinks, a few mocktails, spirits, beer, and wine. I started out with the Ash Landing (Hamilton Pot Still Blonde Rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara Rum, Hamilton Pimento Dram, Angostura Bitters, Pineapple, Lime, Ginger, One Skull booziness, $14). This was definitely a little on the boozy side, with good ginger flavor and the pineapple and lime in the background. She started out with the One-Eyed Willy (Pou Vodka, Lychee, Guava, Coconut, Sweet & Sour, $15, keep the mug for $65). It is rare that a vodka drink is my favorite of the night, but this was both of our favorites. It was very balanced and juicy, and not boozy at all. The guava, coconut, and citrus from the sweet and sour were all there. We bought the mug, and they bring you a new one in original packaging. The purchased mug is colored a little differently (blue instead of black) than the mug the drink is served it, but it still looks great. While walking around taking pictures, I ran into our server and mentioned that it was my girlfriend's birthday. He kindly brought us some shots on the house. He said it was a recipe they had for shots during Halloween, and it tasted like a spin on a kamikaze. It was very good and much appreciated. I have a hard time resisting a cool mug, so for my second drink I ordered the Slick Shoes (Planteray Pineapple Rum, Worthy Park Rum, Bounty Dark Rum, Strawberry, Papaya, Lime Juice, $17). It is served in a cool sneaker mug with a flaming lime half on top. It was nicely balanced and just a tiny bit boozy. It had a nice light fruit flavor, not overly sweet at all. I think it is sometimes served in a regular glass, so if you order it, be sure to ask for the sneaker mug. Her second cocktail was the Never Say Die (Producer Mezcal, Kiwi, Lemon, Mango, Grilled Pineapple, $14). The smokiness of the mezcal was on the hairy edge of being too smoky for me, but she loved it. She could taste the kiwi and mango. We shared one last drink, the Garden of Eden (Papa's Pilar Blonde Rum, Lavender, Lemon, Elderflower, Cucumber Bitters, One Skull booziness, $17). It had an interesting (good) floral flavor profile, and didn't strike me as boozy at all. I could definitely taste the cucumber notes from the bitters. There was good 80s music playing in the background. It's a Goonies themed bar, I get it, but we would have enjoyed a few tiki songs in the mix too. There is one unisex restroom out in the lobby area. It is nice that they also themed it with wooden plank on the walls and ceiling, and some nautical décor. Daniel was our server and was very friendly and provided great service. Thanks again Daniel for the birthday shots! Bartender Felipe also delivered one round of our drinks and was also very friendly. It's a little challenging to find it, it's located inside a sushi restaurant. But look for the tikis outside, and you'll know you're at the right place. The Lost Inferno is a good neighborhood tiki bar. You have to look to find it. But once you do, it is a small establishment with servers who are happy to help you decide what drinks you might like. We came during a slow season and did not need a reservation at 5:00. My Navy Grog was a bit too citric for my preference, and the server graciously gave me some simple syrup upon my request. While they do not serve food, we were told we could bring in food from other places. Next time, we will probably bring something in from Sonny's which is almost next door. The lost inferno is a Goonies themed speakeasy in San Clemente. It was actually difficult to find this place as I had no idea it was located in the restaurant Momoku. They do have a yelp waitlist but recommend reservations by all means. I also recommend reservations for the grotto area as it has a pirate water fountain and very intimate. Perfect for a date night. Otherwise upon entry you are transported to a whole other world. It is Goonies inspired and so epic! The menu is also on a treasure map via QR code and the drinks truly are phenomenal. They have skulls listed to tell you the strength of the drink and I thought that was creative. All the cocktails were also reasonably priced between $14-$18 they also had a ship fishbowl which requires 2-3 sailors for $36. My favorite cocktails were the truffle shuffle, the horchata colada and the zombie. The zombie for sure packed a punch! Heads up don't come here hungry as they have no food just phenomenal drinks! Our friendly and talented bartender carefully crafted attractive & tasty cocktails for us. After such a positive experience, we returned -- again, ecstatic to sit at the bar top, to be entertained by mixologist Ryan, who masterfully assembled a wide variety of drinks for the entire bar (with the help of Don)! Having the friendly-&-personable team of Ryan and Don made the experience especially enjoyable, having us desiring to return again... very soon! In our 3 visits, to date, my negative comment about this place is their one shared restroom's (which I'm not the only one to note) sticky floors, which reeks an offensive stench. It took us some time to find ( no name outside -hence speakeasy) we walked around the building until someone finally told us where to go. My biggest gripe? The bar stools. They're flimsy wicker and feel like they're on their last legs--literally. Sitting at the bar is far more comfortable and also gives you a chance to interact with the bartenders, who are friendly and know their craft well. It's really tough to improve upon the experience but Lost Inferno ups the ante by tossing in a splash of 80's motion picture nostalgia with some Goonies themed drinks and decor. The place is relatively small and seats probably in the neighborhood of 50 people. Reservations are for 90 minutes but yours truly managed to knock back three drinks in that time. Service is friendly and prompt and the overall experience was top notch. North for the food and drink combos, while here we've got some quirky takes on tiki faves + some of the most thoughtful decor representing our favorite Astorians. I ordered the Slick Shoes first and it was bomb. Probs the best drink on the menu + it comes out in fire, always a plus. Hubs ordered the Blue Astoria & Ash Landing... good but my drink won the night. Fab, friendly service. The decor is so much fun. Tons of Easter eggs hidden throughout for the Goonies fan. Great Goonies themed bar. Goonies is my wife's favorite movie ever. We sat in the Grotto area in the back. That area is very cool, but a bit smaller than I anticipated and was quite noisy when it filled up. Drinks are great, and a wide assortment available. Only complaint, we paid $65 to take home the One Eye Willie tiki mug, which is awesome. Then, they brought us out a new one in a box, which was appreciated, but is was blue instead of black. I requested to keep the one I was drinking from and was told no, those are only for serving. The blue one is still pretty cool, but we really preferred the one we were drinking from.
