I haven't been here for about a year I'm happy to report that the park is still my favorite and one of the cleanest and friendliest parks in Reno. Having recently had to say goodbye to both my furbabies and it being the first day of Fall I felt it a perfect day to watch other people with their furbabies. I even got to play with one. If you are looking for a fantastic park to bring your puppies I highly recommend Mayberry Park. Just be careful when walking near the river. Those rocks are slippery when wet and we know how much our dogs love the water! In

River rafting and float season has begun! I've been floating the Truckee River for +20 years and this is my all time favorite place to launch our rafts. If there was any complaint, it would be the lack of parking but there's plenty on the street. The key is to arrive early. It's a great park to chill at while blowing up your rafts and the grass is well kept. What I love about launching our rafts here is because it's shallow enough and easy to get in your raft/tube. On other parts of the river, you might have to trek a little and sometimes it can be steep and not safe. Whereas here at Mayberry, it's flat and more safe, especially for kids. Where we get out of the river is downtown Reno at Wingfield park. On average it's about a 2 hour float. I've never had a problem with theft in all my years here, but as a reminder don't forget to lock your car. Happy summer and be safe! Overall it's just a nice park to have a picnic, walk your dog, take River walks, throw frisbee or a football, etc.. As for bathrooms, there isn't a public restroom but there is a porta potty.

The portable toilet. Was mostly clean when I was there.

Mayberry Park is a nice park to access the river. There is a walking/bike path through the park. There are picnic tables and BBQ pits. There are portable bathrooms. There are some good places to access and swim in the river. There is a grassy area and some mature trees, which provide shade. There is a parking lot to park in. There is not a playground at this park. There is not a basketball court. This is a fun place to sit down and enjoy the river for a while. Have fun out there. -Dadzone

Maybe I got confused by Google??? They said this park had a bike path to Reno, but if it is true, it is via "street" and not through the park. Quality/Quantity - I am sure this place is good for walking and hiking, probably best for bird watching, kayaking, river tubing, and fishing. But unfortunately for me, it was NOT bike friendly at all. Only saw a few picnic tables, I am told that there are BBQ pits also...? Sadly without the proper signage, there is always an issue with rude pedestrians and cyclists. As you can see from all my pictures, there was not one sign that showed a bike lane??? Atmosphere - See above. One outhouse in the main parking lot, with no facility to wash your hands. Small parking lot, but almost no one was here today. Service - None. Price - Free, but this time you get what you pay for. Owner Comment - Thank you Washoe County for this park and I might come back for kayaking or tubing. If this is as bike friendly as you promote on your website, please put up the proper signage. Thanks.

Park situated between Cooke mountain trail and Doroskar. It crosses wood planked metal river bridges and meanders along the river. Lots of picnic tables, bbq and open green fields. Never saw toilets but I wasn't looking for one.

Mayberry Park is a great destination from which to hike, bike, or fish. There are nice, flat paved trails on which to walk with people who use wheelchairs and people who prefer a less rigorous hike. From these trails, one gets a great view of the Truckee river. From this parking lot and trailhead, one can also go deep into the mountains starting from the Tom Cooke trail or go east or west along the paved trail that connects Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. To access the non-paved hiking trails, walk along the paved trail and cross the rickety wooden bridge. My favorite trail from this starting point is to Hole-in-the-Wall along the Steamboat canal. There are lots of shady trees under which to picnic and open, grassy space to do tai chi. Parking is ample. One can river raft or kayak to downtown Reno from here, too. It might be difficult to find the park entrance the first time one visits. Turn on Woodland Avenue and not on Mayberry Drive. I repeat, Mayberry Park is NOT located on Mayberry Drive! The only way this park could be improved is to have a non-porta-pot bathroom option. But for years, there has been a single porta-pot at the far side of the parking lot, and it is always moderately clean and stocked with toilet paper. Personally, I like the rickety wooden bridge, but perhaps the people whose dogs are too scared to walk across it or older people with balance issues would like it if the parks department used all the wooden boards rather than half of them to construct the bridge.

Great flat trails for biking or walking! Lots of dogs and they have doggie poop bags on the trail. The leaves were super pretty for fall also. There are nice areas along the path with places to sit and have a picnic. Although, the bridge was a bit scary for the pups, so we carried them. Great hike over all.

Review #143 - 2020 I don't know what it is about Reno that makes me want to go into the water, but I rarely ever go looking for a lake or a river in the Bay Area. Maybe it's because I don't trust the cleanliness of the water in our area, but the water in Reno seems super nice and clean. It's crystal clear and super cold! I thought this park was far off enough from the downtown Reno area so I assumed that it would be "secluded"; but boy, was I ever wrong!! We showed up at around 4:15 PM on Saturday, August 1st, and I could barely get into the parking lot because there were so many cars parked just all over the place! We got pretty lucky because there were a few spots open so we didn't have to walk much at all to get to the river. The girls had a great time playing in the water. We stayed for about an hour & there were so many people constantly showing up with a raft or water tube going down the river. It looked like a lot of fun! We just stayed in one spot since my daughter is too tiny to risk having her go in too deep. We didn't check out the park much, but there seemed to be a few picnic tables in the surrounding area. We saw a family having a BBQ, but it was way too hot to imagine grilling in that heat. There's one port-o-potty right next to the parking lot, which seemed semi-clean. Overall, it's a great place to enjoy the cold water to get away from the summer heat.

I was so utterly overjoyed to find this park that I almost cried!! As someone who recently moved to Reno from NorCal, I love a nice cold river with a mountain view. I used to have to drive 2+ hours to get it, until I found this park.. TEN MINUTES AWAY (hence the welling of tears). My first visit went like this: - Oh I'm on a cool back road! - Wait no, I'm in an industrial park - Okayyy.. parking lot.. fake grass?.. hold on, IS THAT THE RIVER RIGHT FRIGGIN THERE?! You park, walk a minute or two down any of the many easy trails that lead around or towards the river, and boom you're there. We snagged a picnic table by the black paved trail and we could see our car in the parking lot on one side and the river on the other. Super accessible too. My dream!! The river is cold, but feels oh so nice in the heat. A mama duck and her ducklings hung out with us! We saw a crawdad and a lil water snake! There was a cyclist wayyyy up on the top ridge of the mountain! It's fun to watch people tube down on their floaties too (ooh a flamingo! an inflatable kayak! an air mattress!). I almost didn't even want to review this for you guys so I can keep it for myself, but it's just too amazing not to share. Grab a chair and plant yourself in mother nature cuz this place rules!! Note: there's a big porta potty and a dumpster, but you never know what condition they'll be in, so bring anything you think you might need. Don't forget a garbage bag to leave it as clean (or cleaner!) than you found it. :)

APRIL 18, 2020 - the world is still closed. Walking in the most serene and beautiful places in this Truckee Meadows valley has been quite therapeutic for SO MANY reasons. As we're faced with death, economic trauma, record-unemployment, sickness...all the things that this world is surrounded with at this time - YOU NEED TO STEP OUT and breathe fresh air! Your sanity, your family, co-workers, ex-coworkers, neighbors and community will thank you for releasing the pressure of all this stress. Why I love Mayberry Park: Reasons why I love this park are sentimental: my family and I have spent many GREAT days here - from taking family pictures and many magical strolls (one with my beloved German Shepherd who didn't mesh well in this life) and having the best "talk therapy" times with friends while we savor the natural beauty, sing-a-long with the "cheeseburger" birds, and listening to the roaring Truckee River alongside you. Now, I know by the steel gray bridge, located to the west side of the park, there is an awesome wonderland of trailheads that you can enjoy - I've only done 2, and forgive me, I don't remember the names - but there are many helpful and resourceful apps like All Trails and Footpath that you can explore and plan your route beforehand. I know you will ENJOY any and ALL of these trails! Don't forget a picnic lunch - many tables in the cove next to the bridge with the fabulous riverfront view! What I didn't care for: Hadn't spotted any public restrooms - and that's a darn shame. So word to the wise: EMPTY BLADDER right before you park your car and get started for your walk. The nearest public restroom is the Chevron gas station about a mile east on 4th and McCarran. The wood planks on the steel gray bridge NEED repair and they need to be spaced closer together. My doodle got her paw stuck in between and it was quite frightening for her. Some spots are so LOUD and creaky - a bit intimidating with the sound of the rushing river under your feet. REALLY? There is NO WAY my toy poodle would be able to cross that without having a traumatic experience himself. Just WALK SLOWLY across this bridge and look where your feet are stepping. I cannot stress that enough. 1-star is removed from my review - I feel it's very unsafe. But...4 stars for BEAUTY, well-maintained trails, ZERO dog doo-doo, and having ample parking for as many folks as I saw today! Have a wonderful time and don't forget to BREATHE out there...with your mask hanging on your neck :). Stay tuned for more reviews and pics of my personal discovery of the EPIC SIGHTS only Reno affords!

Yes!! But, some areas are launch points, so you just have to walk to find a place that seems like a good place. Also, the river is swift in many areas. So just know your dog and their strength. Some areas have some cove type spots. Again, just walk… Read more
