Went here for the first time with my partner and his grandmother. The food was actually very good. Then half way through our meal a cockroach crawled across our table. Needless to say we lost our appetite. Still we didn't make a big deal about it, we went up to the counter to pay. We let the little girl they have working up front what happened and she couldn't have cared less. We didn't ask to have free food or anything. We would have just liked to see some concern for the roach problem. That's why I'm writing this. Normally I don't do this kind of stuff but I was super disappointed and I've never had an experience like this. I wanted Mexican food like normally. We get there and the table we are sat at isn't even clean. Super gross and had a napkin in the floor with food on it. We decided to move to the table behind us and that table wasn't much clean either. Then we go to order a drink and there was a bug floating in it. The manager gave us another drink which is fine. Then my husband who wanted a burrito and instructed exactly how he wanted it. The manager comes to the table and makes sure that's how he wanted it. After bringing the burrito out all the vegetables are on the outside instead of the inside. After this I was highly upset and so was my husband. I know I will never go back to this restaurant only because 1/3 things wasn't handled right. read more

Stopped in to have dinner yesterday evening the hostess sat us in a corner we ordered our food and everything was fine until the ceiling started leaking on top of a speaker over our table and splattering all over us. We tried not to cause a scene and just simply switched tables and let our waitress know. She called the manager over to alert her of the issue and fix the check since our food had been contaminated. Maria the "manager" (keep in mind she never introduced herself I had to ask the waitress what her name was) came to our table and we told her how the ceiling was leaking all over us and our food and instead of apologizing she stated the seat we moved to is also going to leak water. If you're aware of the issue why are you sitting people there especially when it rains? Why not discuss it with the owners and avoid seating that area until there's a permanent fix? She never introduced herself never apologized never corrected a bill in fact she told our waitress she wasn't adjusting the check whatsoever. She continuously walked by us laughing we paid the check and went somewhere else for dinner. Shes lucky I even paid for food that we didn't get to eat. Do not eat at this establishment when it rains. The manager is a joke she acts like a petty child and has no business managing anything. read more

Our family enjoys going here. The service is friendly and you can reach a PokeStop while enjoying your food. We often go here during one of our many Pokemon Go family outings. The chile relleno was passable, except for the sauce, which looked liked ketchup and tasted like tomato paste. The tamale and enchilada were ... just wrong. I can remember a time before Mayas when Clear 94 occupied the rundown building on the hill. Even then Mayas seemed to have been predestined for that residence. I've celebrated countless birthdays and anniversaries, attended numerous meetings, had dates and deserts all at their tables. I'm not saying all this to invoke loss at some failure on their part, but to congratulate them on establishing themselves as a staple within the community. With our busy schedule it's actually been a while since we took the time to dine at their tables, but tonight we decided to slow down and enjoy the evening with our family. I was suprised and pleased at some of their latest changes. The first of which is their tortilla chip upgrade, these lighter, crisper chip really make the difference. Secondly, they have started to go back to their roots and make sure all of their food is seasoned and cooked to perfection. We ordered the Molcajette which was absolutely amazing, to the point that I was using the tortillas to dip the gravy out of the bottom. That along with the Nacho Mayas and their queso dip made for a wonderfully full evening. Unfortunately I didn't leave room for desert as I have cravings for their fried cheesecake. Not everything was perfect but it was another evening that I was able to spend with family and that smooths out the rough spots. This is the worst Mexican place in town. It is the closest to where I work so a few times I have braved it. Years and years ago our whole softball team got food poisoning here. But that was years and I mean years ago so you let go and try again. I always call in my order and give them a time usually 1 hour away from the time I call that I want to pick it up. I usually order Chile rellano and rice and beans it is a different price every time I order it and guess what? It is never ready when I get their despite me calling and hour+ ahead of time. Their chips are stale and the salsa is watery I usually give those back and say I don't need them. I have eaten at Maya's on many occasions and have always been satisfied with the food no matter what I try. My faves are Maya's Chicken Salad and Fajita's Nachos. Everything on the menu tastes good. Their service is great and you will see lots of smiling faces. Where's the freaking kick? I would like to have some kick to it (a tiny tiny bit). That goes the same for the guacamole. No kick to it at all! The salsa was a bit spicy for me & was fresh. That's the only good thing I can say. Service was fast. Maybe I am ignorant on the subject of the traditional Mexican homes, but this place made it feel like a traditional Mexican home to me. IF you like bland ground beef loosely wrapped in a corn tortilla, with tomato sauce dumped over it, served lukewarm with no cheese on top, then you will LOVE the enchiladas at Mayas. Served with barely pink, nearly flavorless "Mexican" rice and beans that might be better f they were from the Rosarita can by the waiter who obviously has better things to do then check on your table after he serves this mess- You are going to want to speak to the manager on the way out the door. When you do talk to the manager, instead of apologizing or trying to make something better, he will give you the incredulous look, shake his head, roll his eyes and repeat that he does not understand. "We've been selling enchiladas all day" he'll say. It's amateur night all around the clock at Mayas, and I'm aghast and astonished at all of these other people who are giving good reviews. read more

I wanted to like this place. I really did. My cousin kept telling us how good it was, and I was excited to go there. I'm from Southern California, and I've been to Mexico, so I have a good handle on what good Mexican food is. Unfortunately this is not good Mexican food. It wasn't disgusting, but it wasn't really what I would call good either. It was honestly a very strange interpretation of Mexican cuisine. The beans and rice were fine, but the meat in the enchilada I got was pretty strange. It was like a beef paste substance. It was super fine ground beef (I hope) that was unlike anything I've ever had. The sauce is just one step up from canned tomato sauce. This may work for people in Poplar Bluff, they may have different tastes and enjoy this type of food, and I mean no insult in saying that. If that's the case, then Maya's keep doing what you are doing. However this wouldn't work anywhere where quality Mexican food exists. I highly doubt the staff even enjoys this food. Food had no flavor and are server not once came back to see how the food was, but made his rounds to the other patrons to check on them. Check was never brought so we had to walk up and speak to manager to get bill. They took 1/2 the bill off which was nice, but most of the food was left on plates.
