The atmosphere was nice and they are really prepared for covid safety. That's why they got two stars. We waited over 45 minutes for our pedicure when we had appointments. Then they didn't complete all of the steps. They never offered a drink but that might have been due to covid guidelines but never said anything. I have been going to this nail salon since 2013. I usually would get a spa pedicure every other month and manicures for mainly special events. There has not been any issues with my service until today. My mother from out of town met me there for her to get a nail repaired and dip manicure while I got a spa pedicure. Everything was going fine with my pedicure and once I was finished I went to sit with my mother while her nails were being finished. Her nail tech, Sienna, was rough with my mother. I was horrified and kept wanting to say something as my mother kept flinching in pain. She is entirely too nice and polite to say anything and it even went so far that as the tech aggressively was filing her nails that she cut her and drew blood. I didn't even know you could do that with a non-metal nail file. My mother obviously drew back her hand in pain quickly after the cut and then the tech yanked her hand back toward her to put alcohol on it which burned her. I don't think I can ever go back after how my mother was treated today. read more

Yikes!!! I should have read these reviews first..maybe I just went to the wrong person... I used to go to Maxx Nails a long time ago but I was told the person I use to make appts with is no longer there. I was excited to hear they have dip powder as I've heard it is quicker and dries like shellac. When I asked about getting a shellac manicure the tech who greeted me told me about dip powder and suggested it to me. I've been getting my nails done for years and I know what to expect. When I sat down there was no "prep"... there was no cute little water bowl with pebbles on the bottom and the tech did nothing to remedy the dirt that had accumulated under my nails. I know, gross!! But I had just finished an apartment move where I had to scrub everything. Hence the point of the manicure. She just started painting and dipping. I was offered a confused sweet smile, wine and water when I asked about this process... how interesting... The powder is almost clear... you don't really have an idea what color it is until the end.... unless it's a more prominent color. Towards the end, I looked down and noticed as she was putting on the top coat that this wasn't the color I had chosen... it was in fact the color she insisted was pretty in the beginning. Great. At this point, I absolutely should have said something but I had made up in my mind I wasn't coming back and secretly scheduled a rescue appointment with another tech in VA Beach next week. *shrugs* I hate when you tell a tech what you want, they tell you okay and then proceed to do their own thing. When I got in my car and looked at my crusty stubby round uneven baby pink sparkly nails knowing that I requested short square nude nails.... I knew that Maxx nails would never get my business again. I went to Maxx during my lunch break at noon. It's usually not an issue because they have a lot of people working but today everyone had the same idea as me... Not to mention I came in a group of 4 ladies. We waited probably 5-10 minutes before being seated for a pedicure and then another 10 before 3 out of the 4 of us had started our pedicures. One of the techs was folding towels for another 10 minutes until what appeared to be the owner told her to start our 4th's pedicure. We were there for an hour, after all that so a little longer lunch break than typical. I do like going to Maxx though because all the ladies are so friendly and chatty with you and make you feel welcome. I got a great relaxing spa pedicure for $35 - though I'm not sure I was getting much more than the regular one which costs $25. Where does the additional $10 go? After hearing good things about this salon and reading another review about the eyebrow waxing being fantastic, I thought I'd try it out. I normally have a little redness with eyebrow waxing, but nothing like this. The technician that helped me was very quick to get me out of the room and she didn't even hand me a mirror to look once she was done. When I walked outside, I realized that the soreness around my eyebrows was much more than I've ever felt before. I checked them when I got in the car and sure enough, I was bleeding and you could see where little pieces of skin had been pulled. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

Ive been a frequent client at this salon getting my nails done every 2 weeks. Last week, i tried something new.. Gel nail polish. It was sold to me with the promise of lasting longer and being chip proof. The girl does my nails, and the color is looking like its almost empty.. She takes it in the back and comes back out to finish my nails..So, I left excited that the polish would last longer and be more secure since I was on the way out of town. However, the next day.. One finger chipped , so naturally i was pretty upset. I go back to the salon, explain what happened, and the girl tells me that it shouldn't have happened.. Repaints the nail with what looks like the same half empty bottle.... And sends me on my way...thank god She didn't charge me because 2 days later it did it again,. Dame finger... All i can think about is her possibly putting something in the bottle to thin it out and make it last.. But I cant say for sure thats what caused it to chip.. I can just say i Wow, thats crazy,, runs in the family I guess lol. What kinds of things do you draw?. I like to draw people, with charcoal. I have a bunch of things I've drawn in a book. Best mani and pedis around. I used to drive from Chesterfield to get my nails done. Later I moved to Fredericksburg and can't find a quality nail salon, so I'm still driving to come to Maxx Nails. I always get compliments on how natural my nails look and they last 3-4 weeks. The salon is quiet, no kids running around and no tvs. The massage pedi chairs are comfortable and very new. They provide quality service and the appropriate amount of time without rushing. read more

I have been going to Maxx Nails for a while they have always done my Nails and never had a prob, Till NOW i went to get my nails done with the new Dip polish on 11-20-16 5 days later they start to fall they should not do this in this short amount of time... I went back to talk to Mindy I asked for a redo at no charge She said Sorry we cant do that, Mindy kept saying the reason why they have fallen so fast is because everyone nails grows different I said no my nails dont grow this fast to make them to start to come off after 5 days..I showed her pictures of the other times when they did my nails and no Prob at all....she said if they was chipped or broken they redo....I should have gone outside and broke them off just so they would redo them LOL but since i did say something about that she said no , no, no, no, redo for you LOL so I will be calling the BBB on this place and NEVER will go back there. I used to love this place because of their precise work and the environment. The last two times I have come and gotten my nails done or eyebrows waxed I have been less than satisfied. I feel that they are just going through the motions just trying to get a buck instead of doing good work. I got my eyebrows done the other day and they are uneven and when I checked in the mirror there were tons of "stragglers " and I ended up having to re do my brows at home. Why pay the money when I end up having to do it myself at home? Defeats the purpose. They lost my business. read more

I think its hard to find a place that will do a decent mani/pedi that also doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Maxx Nails has been that place for me since moving to Richmond. It has gotten increasingly more popular in the past few years, so I almost always have to wait a little bit, but its usually relatively quick. They have a wide selection of colors to choose from. Their pedicure chairs are amazing. I do with the pedicures came with a bit more of a massage. I have upgraded to the Spa Pedicure a few times thinking I might get more massage but it doesn't really seem to. I would honestly pay extra to add more leg massage. They should consider that for an add on option! read more

Once I got here I asked if there was a waiting period. The answer I got was "no, just pick your nail polish and we'll sit you right away." Well the right away took 15 mins before someone came to get my pedicure started. Even during the pedicure - I realized that they do not do as long a foot massage as other places do and I wasn't a fan of the final pedicure either - definitely not among my top 10 pedi experience! Oh and they were very busy so once my pedi was done - there was a rush to get me out so that they could sit the next client and so I didn't even walk out with a dry pedicure! read more

Was very excited to try a nail salon with champagne as a nice treat for me and my bridal party as a nice treat before my wedding. We all got our nails done and pedicures there. I have been to several salons, I have never had such a stressful experience. They kept trying to "upcharge" us for different nail features which seem to usually be included with other typical nail/pedicure treatments. Our appointment was scheduled for 6:30 pm, they usually close at 7:00 pm and it seemed like they were really frustrated with us by the time our group was done because it was past their closing time. I had a terrible experience at maxx nails & spa. I was recommended here by a friend because I heard they do powder without the drill. This wasn't the case at all. I had multiple people doing my nails at once switching off. Then when I told the man what I wanted he completely shrugged off what I said & gave me something else. He then told me to go wash my hands & was extremely impatient with me. I pay you to give me a good service. I went to this nail salon with a friend for the first time. I was fine waiting a few minutes, I'm extremely patient however my tech completely rushed through my service. I did not have an appointment but I would have been fine waiting longer to get a satisfying service. I saw her pull out used/dirty un-sanitized tools from her nail table draw. She then proceeded to do my service, filing my nails while looking at other things... I couldn't believe it. Then I receive cold soak water. She completely missed half of my nail on each finger when doing my gel manicure and someone else had to fix it because she took a pedicure while I was still drying. She kept saying it didn't dry long enough but I get this service done every week and a half and never had this issue. Lastly, I didn't get any lotion or massage on my right arm. New to Richmond and looking for a nice clean place for a mani/pedicures. Would not return to Maxx Nails. The salon looked clean, but I was disgusted with the instruments used. Their brochure states "Strict sanitation standards". That is total BS. Pulling a plastic pencil box out of your station and using it on my feet and then on my hands does not qualify under any standards as sanitary. I got a good look inside the box when she was doing my manicure. The callus razor was rusted, the nail clippers were dirty and the cuticle nippers were likewise rusted. The pencil box had manicure dust and other debris in it as well. The girl seemed bored, the massage was weak and she didn't do a great job. Save yourself the likely infection you will get with such lax sanitation standards and go somewhere else. My search continues. read more
