I've been frequenting this salon for the past 4 months. I can not say enough good things about Alicia and her business. Everyone is kind and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Both my 10 year old daughter and I have had our hair cut and colored by Alicia. Her ability to take plain Jane hair and turn it into something extraordinary and beautiful is worth every penny! This salon also earns brownie points for having the sweetest little mascot "Junie" who greets all who enter with affection and a tail wag. Worst salon with the most incredulous prices. I went a few times hoping it would get better but I was fooling myself. I like to try to give things a chance but it just didn't work out. I have long hair but $400 is insane for just coloring hair. One color. I did the same thing with someone MUCH better and it was 115 and she discounted it to 95. I will never go back and I would NEVER recommend this place. I don't write many bad reviews, In fact I really don't write any, but this one deserves it. I'm sorry for being so frank. UPDATE REPLY TO OWNER: Yes I went there many times, I was faithful to the poor person dealing with you as an owner. It's not slander when it's true, thank you. This review is for Dani! I've been going to Dani for almost two years now and she is the best! She has training from Aveda school and I first met her at Seven Salons in Downtown Bellevue. She helped grow my hair long, natural, and healthy for my wedding last summer. She also helped me go a little more fun with awesome looking highlights. I always love how my hair looks after seeing Dani! She is the only stylist I've ever had that when you ask to trim the ends, she actually trims the ends. I've gone to several people in the past that cut too much or cut it choppy. She's great with blending layers so that your hair flows well. She's also great with foiling your hair. She is very detailed and does what it takes to make your hair look the best it can be. I highly recommend her, especially if you have long hair. read more

I had a great haircut with them right before Covid. So I finally felt confident getting my hair cut again a year and a half later after getting the vaccine. I booked an extended haircut appointment several weeks in advance and confirmed my appointment online. I arrived ten minutes early and was told they were running late and they would text me when they were ready. I waited for forty minutes in the parking lot, including thirty minutes AFTER my appointment time, and received no communication at all. I knocked on the door and told them I was leaving. Given that they require 48 hours' advance notice of a cancellation AND require a credit card to even make an appointment...let's just say being accountable needs to apply both ways. In short...disorganized, unprofessional and inconsiderate of client's time. I won't be going back. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! However, Yelp seems to hate them. I'm curious if my review will be seen on the front page, since so many great reviews are tucked away on pages 2 & 3. Preston cuts my hair, and she always listens to whatever I want. She does a full consultation before each cut to see if I want anything to change, and gives me exactly what I ask for. The salon is always clean and I never feel like Preston is rushed. Plus, they recycle everything! They also carry a line of products that are cruelty free and vegan. I've been going here a while now, and I adore all of the stylists at this salon. I think some customers just need to realize that they don't end up liking what they asked for, and they need to own up to that. The stylists at this salon are awesome, so maybe if a customer has a bad experience they need to look at themselves instead of those around them as the issue. read more

Mothers not welcome here. I was excited to try this place based on all of the positive reviews. I made my appointment, arrived for my trim on time, and as I was entering the salon I was told that my 10 month old baby (who was falling asleep in her car seat) was not allowed inside because of hairs and chemicals. I've never had that be a problem before at other salons. They asked if I would like to reschedule and have someone watch her while I get my haircut, but I declined. I will take my business elsewhere. I'm not getting a babysitter to have my hair trimmed. I believe I'm supposed to feel pampered at a salon and not discriminated against. Not to mention I am pregnant and was almost in tears over this embarrassing event. Other customers were right there as I was denied service. After posting this review on Google, the owner contacted me and said their policy was in an email confirmation sent to me. I went and looked it up and this is their official policy: "Childcare policy: During your service, you will be unable to attend to all of your child's needs; stopping your service provider so that you can attend to your child distracts us from doing our best work for you. We ask that if you are unable to find childcare during your appointment, your child MUST be able to quietly attend to themselves for the duration of the service. Children under the age of 6 are considered too young to be able to attend to themselves, and must be attended by an adult who is not receiving services." I am not impressed. A salon that advertises themselves as friendly is sure not very welcoming to hardworking mothers who need to be pampered sometimes as well. read more

The WORST cut I have ever gotten or at least in this century from DANI. I brought a photo of a cut I had that I liked, and the cut she gave me was nothing like it. When she was finished blowing it dry, I gently mentioned I didn't like the cut; she got very quiet and said no one has ever said that to her. (Really never? That surprises me that even a great stylist probably misses the mark occasionally.) The top was a mop layer, not feathered into the rest of the hair. Definitely not a short layered bob! So she said if she trimmed some off the length it would help make the layer less different-- it did to some extent but I still had a heavy mop on top, and the sides were crazy--uneven, laying oddly, with the right side longer than the left, and a chunk of hair near my neck left uncut on the left side. Also, I mentioned I just like to let it dry naturally, buts he in sited on blowing it with a round brush. She told me she never heard of anyone not using a dryer. Just know, I have fairly easy hair to cut (body without curls) and I am also not very picky about my appearance. In my life, some cuts have been better than others, but never have I felt bad enough about a cut! It was so awful I went to another salon and had it recut! As for the color, I felt my hair had gotten too dark recently, so when she suggested a all over foil, I agreed to try it. The color was okay but not what I wanted. It was expensive, and the highlights are not very much lighter. My hair is still very dark. I tried to talk to the owner (calling and leaving a message, stopping by and leaving my phone number for when she was out of a meeting, writing two emails complete with details and before and after photos. I EVEN mentioned I'd love to post how the salon tried to resolve it, but she NEVER contacted me back. Silence speaks volumes. I hate to leave such a bad review, but I feel I had no choice as no one from the salon reached out to even try to make it better. Hopefully, there are other stylists who do a good job there, but in addition to a really bad cut from Dani, the customer service from the salon itself was really poor. So my stylist, Alicia, recently opened her own salon, so I decided I should move my previous review to reflect her new location: I always hated going to get my haircut because I felt like I always needed to "grow into" my cut, or go home and wash my hair right afterwards to get the style right. I've been seeing Alicia for four years now and I've never been more pleased with my hair. She has really fine hair like me and gives me tons of tips for how to get more volume out of it. She also recommends products when I ask, but doesn't try to push them on me like other salons do. She also uses this great online tool for scheduling appointments. I love it because then I can see all the times that she is open and pick the one that works best for me, without trying to figure it out with a receptionist over the phone. From all the great things I hear about this place, I had to come! I don't get my hair cut often so I told Mckenzie to do whatever she wanted with it (without making it super short). I loved what she did with my hair! She is super personable and did an amazing job. If you're looking for someone to go to, go to her! Also, it's really awesome that you can go on their website and they show you all the available haircut times and who is open to cut. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was complaining about. I have personally had Alicia color my hair a few times at Maxwell Salon. I found her prices to be congruent with other professional salons and stylist prices. Alicia is a professional, therefore, it is reasonable for her to charge professional prices. Personally, I would rather pay those prices for someone who protects the integrity of my hair and provides beautiful results. Usually, when stylists are handing out coupons or discounting their services it is because they don't have the experience or expertise yet. Alicia does. If your looking for cheap, maybe it's not your salon. I'm sure there are other places with cheap products and stylists with less training that might suit you. Preston has been doing my hair since I moved to the area and I've not been disappointed since! I always wanted to try an undercut but wasn't sure how it would turn out on me. Preston is experienced with this hairstyle and has consistently done a great job on my undercuts and the different designs. I have seen 3 of the stylists here. Adrianna was my absolute favorite! She listened to exactly what I wanted and asked all the right questions to make sure she was truly giving me what I wanted. When she left I was unhappy but they have an online scheduling system which I really like so I scheduled with Dani. She was a very nice lady but she didn't listen to what I wanted at all and gave me more of what she wanted for me. Lesson learned. I tried one last time and scheduled with Kristin. She was really great, took her time, listened to what I wanted and gave me just that. What really colored my view of this salon was what I overheard while I was waiting for Kristin to finish up with another client. I checked in at the front desk and then sat down in the waiting area (2 chairs) maybe 6ft from the front desk. A few of the other stylists came up front to chit chat with the receptionist since they didn't have clients at the time and then began bad mouthing an "annoying woman" who had recently came in and left her sunglasses. The way they spoke about this poor woman, one of their PAYING customers, was disgusting. All because she asked if they could mail them to her. I regret not getting up and leaving but I will certainly not be back. The real kicker of the situation is that one of the stylists engaging in the conversation was Alicia (the owner.) The whole situation was an eye opener. I have a tremendous amount of respect for those in the beauty field. They make people feel great about themselves and that's admirable. I learned this day that not every stylist adheres to the same standard of professional conduct. read more

I went to Maxwell because I've been to 6 other salons in Kitsap County that have systematically ruined my hair: turned it gray; added frosted highlights; darkened my roots instead of lightened; put a blue group of streaks on my crown instead of one streak under my hair, then turned them green when they tried to remove them; lifted me with color and didn't tone, turning my roots orange. So I quit getting my hair done for 5 months as a protest. I figured that I was moving back to the better coast this summer and I'd wait until I was back there to get my hair done by a proper salon. Until the grays proved too much. I can't pull my hair back anymore. There are too many of them. So to Maxwell I went, having been urged by a friend and told that it really was a good salon. I went in, attending to arrange a consultation. I stood at the reception desk for 10 minutes. The receptionist was trying to schedule someone on the phone. Literally 10 minutes went by without her once looking up at me and telling me she'd be with me in a minute or making eye contact or doing anything to acknowledge my presence. I walked out. I went back a week later. The receptionist noticed me. I explained how my hair and trust had been damaged by 6 different salons in the area but I needed to get my hair done anyway. She brought a stylist out for a consultation. I explained again. Then I told her I just wanted to do my roots and skip highlights, etc. She said she couldn't do what I wanted. She talked me into highlights and roots. I made the appointment. I walked into my appointment today and was given a waiver to sign. The waiver explained that the stylist was a level one. Meaning little experience. I was astounded. After all my explanations, everything I'd told them at the time of my consultation, they assigned whoever was on staff to do my hair. They didn't listen to me. They didn't care that my hair had been ruined over and over again. They just let this baby stylist schedule me, with little thought to their customer. She was greedy and wanted the job. It didn't matter if she could carry it through or not. Her boss was there and told me it wasn't a waiver, it was an acknowledgement. Well, can I have the appointment without signing it? No. The boss said she'd let the baby stylist do her hair. But who does the boss's hair, really? Another stylist with years more experience. They told me they'd like me to reschedule. Are you kidding? I cleared my GD schedule to get that appointment. Why ON EARTH didn't they tell me when I made the appointment that the stylist had very little experience and I should probably wait and get a consultation with someone more experienced? The boss says to me, "we can't turn back time." No we cannot. And we can't stay for this appointment. We can't get our hair done here with these kinds of shenanigans going on. Just be honest. Someone with a difficult case walks in - 6 inch roots, grays, a band of orange, and outgrown blond - freaking be honest and tell them that they need to consult with someone more experienced. Don't throw that in my face at the last minute. What a waste of time. My time, my energy, days of stress leading up to this stupid appointment. No, don't waste your time at Maxwell. Chances are they're deceiving you somehow. read more

I am giving this salon 2 stars. I followed my stylist Abreanna there. She was the best there. Since she left to follow her dreams and moved to California, things went down hill. The turn over at this salon is ridiculous. Also, this salon is very expensive for the quality of care you get. I didn't mind paying the cost when Abreanna was there because she was worth it. After Abreanna, I felt some of the stylist did add ons to up their fees. For example, who charges for toning.... $20.00. I have never had that done. I also have heard the owner of this salon bad mouthing a customer after she left. This is so unprofessional and so I decided it was time to leave this salon. I have gone to this salon for many years. My girlfriend has a short fade. We were looking for someone to do a great old fashioned fade. I called Maxwells who informed me it would be $25 for this cut. When I said it was for my GIRLfriend, the price changed to a $40 minimum. The same haircut for someone with the right anatomy is at least $15 cheaper. This was my first time at this salon. Actually, this was the first time I'd ever paid so much for a haircut, but from all the great reviews I thought for sure it would be worth it. Not so much. I asked for a trim, to keep as much length as possible while getting off the bad ends, and long layers. She took off nearly 5 inches, and the ends of my hair on the longer layers were cut straight across (not tapered to look natural like I asked) so it was uneven and very choppy if worn in front or behind the shoulders. The shorter layers were tapered to frame my face, but the long ones weren't.. it wasn't a pretty combination. I was so very frustrated that I got a much better haircut when I went to Supercuts than when I spent tons of money at this place. Needless to say, I won't be returning. read more

Can I get 7 stars? lol! I made a last minute appointment for a flat iron and style. Mckenzie was my stylist and she was A-Maz-Ing! I have super thick wavy hair which is a pain for me to flat iron. She took my hair like a champ! When she was done flat ironing my hair, I was totally surprised! It was so so straight and flat! Way better than I do at home! While she was doing my hair, I was looking through some magazines for styles I liked. Found one and she did a wonderful job cutting it similar to the picture. I have never had my hair cut short, and when I say short, I mean hair that's before my shoulders. She even double checked with me if I really wanted to go through with cutting a couple inches off because I can't go back. I was sure I wanted short hair. She starts cutting and I slowly see inches of my hair on the floor. Once she was done I was completely satisfied with the cut! Extremely thrilled with the end result. I'm so glad I waited till I found this salon to cut my hair! Mckenzie also was able to give me some suggestions on other salons that might specialize in Japanese Straightening in the area. I'm defiantly going to check out their websites and give them a ring. She was also helpful in providing me with information about different types of flat irons since I need to purchase a new one. I've been to Maxwell Salon to see McKenzie since August 2013. The first time we met, I needed a cut and color so that I could feel confident going into a very important job interview. I explained that I needed to be business professional and to keep the color close to my own but more rich in color so that I could handle the growth period as it would be a couple months before I'd be back. The short: - McKenzie pays attention, treats you warmly and takes her time. - The prices are relevant. If you think you've paid too much, then you might not have visited salons on the Seattle side with similar skill sets and offerings. My cut/colors over there were over $300. - My price is around $140 for cut, partial highlight (foil), color, shampoo and style. - The facilities are always clean, including the restroom - They offer coffee and tea with sugar, creamer, etc. - The staff is extremely friendly and the front desk personnel are equally so. - They also offer online scheduling/booking so you can see when their next availability is for each stylist. text message alerts. - Several of the staff attend classes regularly in Seattle to brush up on color application and cut techniques, keeping them relevant. - Text message alerts and reminders for appointments are awesome compared to the old fashioned business cards from back in the day, but they do offer those as well - McKenzie has often fit my husband in for a cut while I'm processing my color, which is so kind of her and has also meant that she missed lunch or took it later to accommodate Highly recommend McKenzie and the salon owner. I cannot speak for any of the other stylists as I've only worked with McKenzie and Alicia (sp?). The long: Let me tell you, this girl knows what she's doing. I think what I like most about McKenzie is her ability to lead you with the right questions and pick through what you're saying to arrive at what you really want and need. I think everyone comes into these salons at some point and says "I want to do something fun and different!" but follows it up with "...but please keep the length the same and don't change my color!" It's one thing to say you want funky and another thing to pull it off. When it comes to hair, buyer's remorse isn't as simple as an exchange or refund, and that's what makes McKenzie so brilliant - she helps you to avoid the remorse part as much as possible, but still gives you the change you truly desire. After several months, I began bringing in my husband and daughters. The kids are all different ages, and she's great with each and every one of them. The youngest was 3 when she saw her, the middle was 7 and my oldest was 12. Her professionalism is unparalleled for a woman her age, which I respect very much. She talked with the kids, answered their questions and managed to get them to behave without rushing the cut or getting upset. My husband has been given standard cuts and an edgy one as well. Just had my hair cut by Mckenzie. This was my very first hair appointment after relocating to Silverdale last Oct. I was a little nervous about meeting a new stylist because I was afraid she wouldn't fully understand what I liked. All my fears were put to rest within the first 60 seconds of meeting Mckenzie. She put me at ease immediately with her sunny and sincere personality. And she was very cool with seeing pictures of my last haircut so she'd have a good idea of what I wanted. Not only did she cut my hair perfectly, we clicked on cooking, irreverent humor and tattoos! I truly enjoyed my appointment and am relieved that I've found a stylist here. I have short hair which is a pain to deal with, especially finding a stylist who will listen, play around with my hair, and not give me a ridiculous haircut.* I was THRILLED find Preston at another salon. She is personable, really cares about what I am looking for, and would never, ever tease my hair. I was travelling recently and on my return called the old salon to make an appointment with Preston to correct the horror that was my grown-out hair. When I was told she was no longer there, I panicked and threatened to just shave my head. Fortunately my partner has a calmer disposition and did some investigating, presenting me with an appointment with Preston at Maxwell! Not only is she the same amazing stylist, and my hair looks great again, but the salon has a much better atmosphere, with bright windows and less of the feeling that I was not dressed formally enough. Getting an appointment was easy, although I did not need *all* of the reminders they sent, and staff was pleasant as well. *After another local stylist had a shot, my partner described my hair as "Hitler Youth." I called and thankfully they had an opening. My stylist was Katie. She was very sweet. She had great hair and she was very engaging. She took her time with my hair. Asked me what I wanted and told me what she was going to do before chopping. I loved that she asked for my advice instead of acting like she knew what I wanted. This is the first time I had short hair in long while and was very reluctant but Katie saw my vision and gave me exactly what I wanted. When I was done my husband was in awed. He kept telling me how pretty I was and that I looked liked I was 18 again and looked like how he remembered me in college. The third visit I had was later in the evening and the water heater apparently went out so my stylist was very apologetic when washing out my hair. I understand that things happen so cold water wasn't what turned me off it was when the owner came in she was kind of gossiping with my stylist from the back room and didn't acknowledge that a client was in the building- just seemed a bit unprofessional as I sat there awkwardly quiet. They charge too much for the experience they provide. I followed my stylist to Tease salon and it was so much more FUN to get my haircut there. They are friendly and talk WITH their clients. I haven't cut or colored my hair in two years and from the reviews I thought this would be the best place. I got my haircut and colored from Nicole, and I had to get everything she did fixed the next day. My hair had streaks of color, (it was supposed to be an all over). It was more red then brown. When she cut my hair, it was all choppy and when I straightened it. I did ask for layers but did not receive that. After spending 110 dollars and speechless beyond words, she told me she could fix the color for another 60 dollars. No. I went over to the mall and had someone fix the color so it was all over one color and fix the "layers" she gave me. I also made an appointment but found myself waiting 45 minutes before being helped. I hate writing bad reviews but I have never been so unhappy with my service. read more
