I've gotten my hair cut by Alison Hanford for 13 years! She has always done an amazing job on my hair and I would highly recommend her! She is also amazing at waxing eyebrows (I don't trust anyone else to do them as well), but due to Covid-19 they aren't offering waxing services. She also is an amazing at styling hair and doing makeup for special events! Over the years she has stayed up to date on styles and new techniques! She is friendly, professional, clean and is attentive to what the client would like and/or gives you an amazing cut that you would never think of! Also, the online scheduling is very easy! I brought my 9 year old here for a haircut based on reviews on FB stating they were Deva curl certified. This was a terrible experience. She was late to get started, was talking on the phone instead of washing my daughter's hair. The whole appointment was rushed and uncomfortable from then on. Tessa told me half way through the haircut that my daughter's hair was too curly and she needed to go to a "black salon". She kept yelling at my daughter to keep her head down and not move. Then said there was too much product on it to cut it right so she busted out the clippers! I said I thought she was Deva Curl certified and she said " not with this curly hair, you mean Allison". (!) What do you do when it's too late to run out? I didn't want to humiliate my daughter with a botched cut that bad...maybe we should have left at that point. At the end she told me it would cost $40. It was clear she was late for waiting client and wanted us to go. When I balked she said I should've booked her for an adult haircut and I need to warn people before I bring in my daughter. I said if she wasn't qualified to cut her hair, she could've stated this at the beginning consult. No need to shame my daughter because you are in over your head. My daughter cried all the way home. I'm going to have to take her elsewhere to fix this very boxy and boyish cut. She left the back uncut- see photo. Perhaps if she would gave washed her hair it would have been easier to cut. I am not a get a hair cut on a regular schedule kind of person but won a gift certificate at a silent auction to have a session with Rachel. I had surgery the week before so my regular schedule of running home to ride after work was put on hold and I had nothing to do. I called and was able to get in same day. I had no plan and no hope for what I wanted and just told her a few things about my routine. I have wavy hair that drives me nuts most the time and ends up in a braid or pony tail by the end of the day. I told her I didn't really care how short it went as long as I could put it up if I wanted to. She cut a little off and went to start getting the color together. She came back and I told her to cut more she warned me she couldn't put it back. LOL. I said do it anyway, so she did. She was very concerned it would be too much because it was down to the middle of my back when we started. I told her it was in a pony tail all the time now so worst case that's where it would be if I didn't like it when we were done. I actually love my hair now! She blew it out and showed me how to curl it if I wanted to. I didn't wash it the next day and it still looked great. I washed it and blew it out and straighten it the following day and it still looked great and today I washed it, put a little product in it and let it dry naturally and it still looks great. Finally something low maintenance but something that I can add a little fancy to if I wanted to take the time. read more

I went to this salon today because I totally messed up my hair and dyed it WAY too dark! They not only took me same day, but are an AMAZING group of people! Rachel is a problem solver and is GREAT at her job! I did highlights in my hair and Rachel did an AWESOME job!!! I am more than impressed with how my hair turned out! I love this salon It's got a great vibe and some very talented stylists. I trust Alison with my hair, she knows just the right colors and just the right cuts for me. I've got crazy wild wavy hair and my curls are hard for me to work with, so when she works her magic, it makes it easier for me to style it quickly. I've moved away from Poulsbo, but I won't go to anyone else. So I guess you could say that I'm a loyal long time customer. After my husband proposed to me, I started booking vendors very early to avoid the competition and concern that those I wanted might already be booked for the wedding date. Alison was recommended to me by one of my bridesmaids, and I have a couple other friends who go to her as well. So, I booked her and have used her for all my hair needs since! She has cut and colored my hair several times and did hair for myself and my bridesmaids on my wedding day. She did a great job of capturing the look everyone was going for. I did a very traditional hairstyle for my wedding and it was lovely. For my 1950's housewife themed bridal shower, she gave me some great vintage waves. We did my trial run on the day of the bachelorette party but I did not want to take away from the surprise of my wedding day look, so then we messed it up and gave it a sexy, tousled look. I was happy every time. Alison is also a lot of fun to talk to. She puts a lot of effort into her look, as do the other girls in the salon, which makes me feel good. I have seen stylists who don't really bother to make themselves look great and it discourages me from using them. They have a great looking little shop too. read more

Worst experience at a salon I've ever had. Start to finish: I walked it, never having been to this salon before and my stylist didn't even know my name (I'd booked her on-line so she knew I was coming in). I told her what I'd wanted, she said she could do it. I spent the next 4 hours listening to her talk about herself and her expertise- not once did she ask me a single personal question. After 4 hours I had to leave- my hair looked horrible. She told me to schedule something next week- not offering to get me in ASAP- so I got home and looked at her schedule and booked the next possible appointment that worked for my schedule, a week later. I'd left two messages about getting in earlier- no response. I come in a week later- same process. We got through the coloring portion only to find my hair didn't take. So instead of going through the same process a third time, I suggested we just go back to my normal hair color. By this time- her next appointment showed up and at that point I felt she just wanted me out of her chair. I apologized to her that it didn't work- and that it was taking longer than she'd planned. The color was slightly lighter than what I'd started with and the cut was not good. I'd ended up with that one long layer and one short layer right above it... I'd been reluctant to write a review- but to top it off- I got home to find the sweater I was wearing during the appointment was covered in bleach spots. To me, that is unacceptable. I would think even the newest of stylist would know how to keep that from happening- so I paid for a cut I was not happy with that I will have to pay someone else to fix, a poor coloring job, and lost a sweater. I would NOT recommend this place. read more

Let me just start on establishing that I can only speak on services that Alison offers. I have not yet tried anyone else. I am proud to say I am in a happy, monogamous professional relationship with Alison Hanford as my hair stylist. For the last four to five years, I have been seeing her for cuts and color. You rarely find someone who possesses both passion for the craft AND lengthy experience. Alison packs both and it's always great to hear about the education she has had and still continues to learn over time when it comes to Joico Minardi coloring. She entertains photos of what you're looking for color or cut-wise and is sure to tell you the steps and decisions she makes to achieve the look you want. Also, the quality of the products she uses and affordability for her customers in the area makes Alison SUCH a gem in this area. I can't find Deva curl products anywhere in the area, so I buy them from her. From someone who has tried every anti-frizz shampoo/conditioner product under the sun, I can definitely get behind Alison's love for these products and have used them for over a year now. Trust her recommendations! Because she is so popular, be aware that Alison's books can fill up. If you are able to get an appointment with her, just know that there might be some wait time before your appointment depending on how slammed she gets. She handles it all with a smile though, so have a little patience because time with her is absolutely worth it. I should also mention that this salon allows dogs, so when my husband and dog decided to wait in the salon for me to finish my appointment, they felt welcome and at home and even fell asleep on the sofa! I just love how welcoming this place is for families while also offering high quality products and service. Your money goes a long way here. I would recommend her to anyone! read more

My daughter booked Alison for her wedding party's hair and makeup. She is amazing! She and her bridesmaids received so many compliments and the hair and makeup held up despite all the activity, eating, and drinking. Alison listens to what you want and is willing to make any adjustments if you are not happy with something. She is extremely talented and everyone looked cohesive, yet with different styles. None of the bridesmaids came in with ideas and Alison was able to assess their hair and come up with styles based on their preferences and tastes. I was definitely not impressed. I was charged $125 for hair, makeup, and nails which I thought was a great deal. We had an a appointment with 3 girls to get everything done by 2 for prom. I was told there would be another stylist to help so we would be good with time, but only the one stylist did all three of us girls. The hair turned out beautiful for all of us, but my makeup I could have done better by myself, and I had to later fix because the foundation was streaky and the eye shadow was splotchy. Oh, and I did my nails myself in the store because she didn't have time to do them and I still was charged for it. We weren't out by two, we had to rush getting the rest of the way ready and pictures and missed our ferry to Seattle we were suppose to take. In all, this may be a great salon, but my experience was horrible and will not be returning. read more

I had my hair repaired at Eye Candy salon in Poulsbo after having gotten a really BAD cut and color in Seattle. Rachael, they stylist, was wonderful! She took the time to really find out what I had in mind, and spend time with another stylist to decide on a color combo that would add highlights and warm tones to the terrible dye job I'd had done two weeks before. It came out perfectly! She also spent the time to fix the cut and really give it some shape and flow. It's a week later, and I'm still delighted. No matter if I spend no time with it and just let it wave the way it wants to, or really spend some time styling it, this cut and color look great. I'll definitely be back! read more
