I used to recommend The Proper‍. Unfortunately I had bad hair cuts the last two times I went there. The woman that owns the place or manages it seemed to really know her craft. As for the rest of her staff I'm saying hit or miss. It was definitely a miss for me the last two time. Its a kind of cool place and I've never used the barber side. I have been to Katie Carter at The Proper at least 10 or more times(for cut and dye) I've had issues with stylists in the past that actually made me stop going to salons all together. Her attentiveness to me and her consistent quality work and obvious experienced skill gives me full confidence in her abilities-she helped me see that there are still good stylists out there, knowing I always walk away genuinely feeling happy and satisfied with my hair. I booked a deep conditioning treatment with a blow dry style, even though I did get the conditioning treatment, I asked the hair stylist if we could diffuse my hair to which she said sure. I just wanted my hair dried via diffuser, she only diffused the ends of my hair and said the rest should dry nicely now. I was a taken aback a bit with that, paid for both the deep conditioning and blow/dry style plus left a 20% tip but left feeling very blown off. When I walked in, she didn't introduce herself, didn't ask my name nor call me by my name, she came off like she couldn't care less for my business. I walked home with wet hair and barely dried ends. I finished the job myself when I got home. I've been scouring for a new salon and stylist to call home but I don't think this will be the place for me. read more

I am disabled, I called ahead to make sure that I would be able to get the type of appointment I needed with fewer clients in the business as I have an auto immune disease. I was told by Susanna to book a certain day and a certain time. I booked that 2 hours after talking to her on the phone. . It confirmed That day, and then sent me text messages every single day until the day of my appointment. And then five hours before my appointment they canceled on me. Then they proceeded to offer me an appointment during a busy time at the salon. Totally neglecting my auto immune disease. So now I have to look for a new hairstylist because clearly they do not understand my special needs and clearly they do not value me as a customer. read more

Haircut was perfectly good. $35, which seems a little high to me but it was a good haircut so no problem. The three star review is because the hair-cutter lady didn't wear a mask while cutting my hair. I guess I could have left or asked her to put one on, but in November of 2020 this should not have to be a request. I didn't really notice until after I had sat in the chair and we were talking for a minute, that she wasn't wearing one. I mentioned something about covid and she proceeded to tell me that she won't catch it because she's healthy. Yeah. She was the only one working when I was there, so I don't know the policies of the other workers. They do have customers wait outside until they are ready for you, so it seems like the place overall is taking covid precautions. read more

Now, my husband and I have been going to The Proper for close to 6 months and we absolutely love it. Our barber, Jordan, is extremely skilled and takes his time to ensure nothing short of perfection. 10/10 Definitely recommend. Just moved here and lookin for a barber as good as the barber I had where I moved from. Spent some time with my roomates reading reviews, looking through yelp, Facebook, google, photos... decided on The Proper and drove 20 mins hoping this could be my new regular place. On Yelp it says they accept walk ins and close at 8pm. I have a show tonight so was willing to maybe wait an hour or so for a good cut. Went today, 2pm, Saturday, wasn't very busy which was nice. The girl was really nice and upbeat. But she told "sorry we're full" and that all of their barbers were "next door"...? Didn't know what that means. Maybe they all went to the gym or the bar next door? Idk. Either way I'm bummed and now going to drive across the narrows to my old barber or find a different last-ditch place to get cut around here and hopefully find a regular shop. Sucks. read more

I usually take my son to Bremerton to get a haircut. Living in Port Orchard, I wanted to support a local business. I made an appointment with Rachel and couldn't be happier. My son came in super shaggy. Many barbers cut his hair and slop on gel. With Covid, I told Rachel he doesn't really use product plus he's only 9. I appreciated the attention to detail. She also took the texture of his hair into account when cutting it. His haircut was perfect and looks amazing with 0 product thanks to Rachel. We'll be back again. read more

Kyla Jean does great with short men's cuts. Unfortunately other stylists we have been to for my daughters with long hair have been inconsistent. Yesterday my 13 year old got her hair cut and it was uneven. I took her back to get it fixed. Still uneven. Left a review on Facebook and the owner called us spoiled brats. Sorry I have an opinion on your shop and have mostly not had great haircuts? Accused my 13 year old of moving her head all around. IF she had, why wouldn't the stylist ask her to be still instead of curling her uneven hair and sending her on her way? I don't recommend although if you do need a short men's cut, and plan to go there, go see Kyla Jean. She does a good job. read more

My haircut I got tonight from Kristin was amazing! I haven't felt that comfortable while getting my hair cut in forever. I'm an anxious kind of person and she was so sweet with conversation and actually was super engaged and just was really awesome, definitely improved my meh day. My ends were very dead and I asked her to just cut off all the dead and she did that indeed! My hair feels super healthy now, thank you so much Kristin! The hair cuts were fine but we will not be returning here again. Twice I have brought my three daughters to the Proper and they have confirmed and scheduled kids appointments. Then when I go to pay they tell me that they have to charge women's cut prices because they have more hair. They said it was a scheduling issue but the cuts were simple and did not take extra time. I also received text messages confirming kid hair cuts. They never bring it up at all between scheduling an appointment and when we are charged. If there was a change or issue I would expect to be notified before the haircut. I will no longer recommend them and will not be returning. I do not feel like this is an appropriate business practice. read more

The owners are so nice! And everyone there is incredibly nice. However; I wanted my dark brown hair dyed blonde and was asked to bring in a picture of what I wanted. I showed the picture to the hair stylist, Christie, and we started. I wanted a darker blonde, like a dirty blonde and she gave me gray hair. Instead of all of my hair being dyed it was dyed in patches throughout my head. It looked awful, I looked like I was 50 rather than 17. However there was nothing I could do so I paid $90 and left crying. I wish I had never gone, I wish I could get my money back. I bought box die from the store that did a much better job for $10. We were recommended here for my lady's hair that needed some much needed TLC. We stopped by after a bite to eat at Whiskey Gulch with our toddler and puppy. We received a warm friendly greeting by Lyndsey and Christeena. They were so nice and helpful and assisted us in booking our appointments right then, and mine since this shop is dual purpose and also serves as a barber salon, also. A few hours later we returned for my appointment I met Al; (the owner) who is a super cool dude! He asked what I wanted to do with my hair, I explained low and tight, and he went right to work. Buzz buzz...snip snip...a shave, and some good conversation and he was done. He gave me the mirror and I was very pleased by his work! He is very passionate about his work. Amazing cut! Susanna did an amazing job cutting my hair! I have straw straight hair that can be difficult to cut the shorter it gets. I went for a pixie like cut and the back was not sitting right for me, Susanna was patient and took her time to cut my hair until I was satisfied with how it sat. She was extremely professional and gave helpful tips on styling my hair. Definitely recommend her!! read more

A new place in town that is not a chop shop. I had tot wait a couple of weeks to get in but it was worth the wait. My haircut was all pro. The stylist listened to what I wanted and took the time to get it right. Sheer panic as it has taken a year to find the best cut at a reasonable price. I am happy to see this option come to the Annapolis region of Port Orchard. It had the service I was looking for and I have already booked a repeat appointment. Previously this location was a bar and a pseudo art gallery of sorts. Add some plants a hot or cold drink and a bit of plush to the services (mani-pedi area, waxing) and this could be a fill function salon. read more

After almost two years of searching, I have found my permanent salon and most importantly, stylist. I had my first haircut with Kyla Jean a couple of months ago. I recently went in with fresh, clean hair so that she could see how it naturally dries. After a quick discussion of my hair wishes, she knew exactly where to cut to get the look I wanted. I can literally run a comb through it and be done and have a great look once it's dry. Best! read more

He was very scared to get his haircut by a stranger but as soon as we went in here they were very friendly and talkative which helped ease him into the barber chair. I've tried other places in Kitsap like the Barbershop in Bremerton ( decent, but the lines are ridiculously long) and other hair salons ( being a dude makes it a little awkward at these places). However, the haircut was always stylist dependent. I've been lucky to have found Amber at this location. I've had several haircuts with her and she knows how to do a fade or taper with meticulous detail. The atmosphere is nice and barbershop-like with a man-cave vibe. I've been eyeing this place up since it opened because I fell in love with its industrial interior. And for some reason, I only recently discovered they cater to women. So ladies, don't be discouraged by the heavy male presence on social media.I decided to give them a shot after I found an awesome deal online (25% off all services) and booked my appointment though the app vargaro which was quick and painless. The deal was specific to the stylist Sheryl Fowler, on account she is new to the salon and is building clientele. (Found out this deal will run until the end of May 2016). Super happy with the results and would recommend to other ladies looking to get a balayage done right here in po. Most definitely will be back for another cut and color. Even if you aren't able to get the deal I got, the salon has very reasonable pricing and I will be saying goodbye to my salon and it's $70 cuts. read more
