Small wine bar, pretty good selection, service is friendly and the bar seems to be very popular. The food looked decent but I didn't try anything. Wines can get pricey, but most glasses in 11-15$ range read more

Cute new wine bar opened up in Shaw and it's definitely unique! It has indoor and outdoor seating, but so far it's filling up quick so definitely don't take your time getting in for the evening HH specials. I didn't notice if they accepted reservations or not, but it doesn't seem to have that kind of vibe - especially with the limited small plate offerings. Which were DELICIOUS, but not meant to make a meal out of. The eclectic wine offerings are very good, and the sommeliers really knew their stuff. Their main point seems to be that they "Don't do traditional wines" - they have a tag line "ABPG" which was "anything but pinot grigio" - but if you tell them that's the style you like they can find you something even better to try! Would recommend! read more

This is my favorite spot in all of DC--no questions asked. I have brought so many friends to Maxwell and each time they thank me for bringing them. I love the monthly themed menus and the owners Brent, Niki, and Daniel are fantastic. You have several pour options when it comes to ordering a glass of wine and I find myself sticking with the half-glass pours in order to try as many wines as possible. Honestly, I generally let Niki or Daniel make my wine decisions for me and trust them each time I visit; I truly enjoy the experience and trying the new selections each month. This is a great place to try new wines with friends or on your own. Don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone that works there genuinely wants you to enjoy what you're drinking! read more

This place is really cute, but SMALL. We went on a Wednesday night and had to wait awhile (they also seat the bar). With that said the atmosphere is really great and it's a cute place. One of the guys there was GREAT. He brought my friend a glass of water without us asking when she was coughing and then brought us a sample of vermoth. They have a decent wine list and I like the theme and that they have interesting wines. The cheese board we got was pretty good though they could increase the bread. It came with a lot of cheese, but literally 3 pieces of bread. I will say the wine is pricey. Mine was $14/glass and was not the most expensive on the list. It was my friend's birthday so I didn't mind, but certainly couldn't make this a regular place. I do like that they offer various pour options - half glass, full glass, half bottle, full bottle. read more

The staff is Kool! Meet the owners, love how they're also employees. They're involved and they care about their customers. It's inspiring... love the atmosphere. Unfortunately, only came for cocktails. Didn't get a chance to try any dishes read more

Maxwell Park - Wine Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

If you are looking for a snobby and overpriced wine bar this is not the spot for you. This place is AWESOME! The inside is nice and quaint and the outside seems calm and relaxing on O Street mixed in with the neighborhood. The staff is HIGHLY knowledgeable and friendly! I got an incredible recommendation on a glass of wine and loved every sip!!! We were greeted with a welcome drink while we were educated on the different types of wines they were offering this season. Make sure to try orange wine! I know it sounds weird but they can definitely make a recommendation for your taste and you'll be happy! I want to rate this place low so it doesn't get overcrowded but for the good of the staff - please go and check this spot out!! read more

Last night I went to Maxwell Park with a couple of friends. It's AMAZING. The ambiance is very cute and romantic. This would be a good date spot. All the wine the bartender suggested was so good. The service was superb. I think this has become my new favorite wine bar! read more

Maxwell Park - Cute little Mason jars Maxwell Park has on the bar. The detail is quite quaint. I love it. - Wine Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Great selection of wine - the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The only feedback is I wish their food selection was a little bigger. The cheese board and grilled cheese we got was fantastic- but those were the only two options. We will definitely be back read more

This is such a cute place!!! Def glad to have stumbled on it. There are so many wines, +50 available. You can try half pours, full pours, half bottles or full bottles. They are great at making recommendations. I loved my custom white flight. Hubby made a custom red flight. There is an outdoor space with blankets and two fire pits. Super cute. And the prices are really reasonable. The half pours are literally half the price of a full glass. They have monthly specials in terms of wines for tasting, and the list is almost as long as their regular offerings. We will def be back for the drinks. Food is very small so don't expect to get full. read more

This was such a great experience for me. I'm not really into wine and have never liked the serious and upscale ambiance of wine bars but my visit at Maxwell really changed that perspective. It was such a relaxed but professional experience. We sat on the outside patio and were not once left unattended and we dined here as well. Not only was our server Daniel mindful of us he was also really fun and informative. Being someone who doesn't know much about wine he didn't make me feel like an amateur (lol) and I actually really enjoyed the information he shared with us. I have a new outlook on wine and wine bars after visiting maxwell. The food was also very well portioned, unique, yet delicious. read more

I really enjoyed some after work drinks at Maxwell Park the other day. The bar is small but has a nice, cozy feel to it. The wines are really unique, and it's nice that each month they have a new theme. This month is dedicated to bubbly wines. The wines are definitely pricier than other nearby places, but it is fun to get to try some exotic/less known varieties. The food is also really tasty- we had the olives and burrata. They only have a few small plates/snack on the menu, so don't go expecting to eat a large meal. read more

Absolutely love this little wine bar on the corner of 9th and O St. Their wine selection is amazing! For the month of September, they're doing a special where they are showcasing a classic wine, but then giving you the option to check out a lesser-known wine that may be similar in taste/comparison. I think this is an amazing concept and love that the owners keep their menus up to date and constantly changing. Also, their music is AMAZING!!! This place is the perfect place to start or end your night! Our awesome waitress told us about wine tasting classes on Sunday's, so I will definitely need to come back for this! Lastly, I came on a super busy Saturday night during the DC arts festival and it's amazing to see how involved the owners of this bar are with this place. They are assisting with seating patrons, clearing glasses and are behind the bar - highly respect this type of dedication!!! read more

Maxwell Park - September Menu - Wine Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Wow. Pretentious and undeserving. Daniel (owner) is less than kind. Need I say more? Yelp says I need to add more words. Really not worth it. I'm from out of town. Guess this is par for the course. read more

didn't even try a wine from the list yet. we were walking by with a completely different destination in mind, but their little patio caught our attention and we gave it a try. it was bitterly cold, and we were hoping to find something hot on the menu. before we even ordered, they brought water AND little samples of their hot white mulled wine, which was FANTASTIC and we immediately ordered more after trying it. because of COVID, they took the time to not only upload all their menu options on a QR code (29 pages worth!) but they went ahead and included a whole slew of mixed drinks and cocktails they're able to make, so that you know right away if they don't have the ingredients to make a certain drink. everything was great, patio is well heated and we were comfy. we'll definitely be going back to try the regular wines, but honestly i'd go back just for that mulled wine. read more

I'm always hesitant to go into a place that labels themself as a wine bar. For some reason, I think they are usually either too pretentious or too clueless about wine to have opened a wine bar. This place was neither. I was the first to walk in at happy hour and I clearly interrupted the staff having a great time getting ready for the evening ahead. Love it. I sat at the bar and was able to easily describe what I like and be given just that. A delicious rose from Sancerre. In addition, if you're there early enough, they give you an adorable miniature apertif spritz. Love the thoughtful extra touches. Light, open atmosphere; affordable prices; friendly, knowledgeable staff and what seemed to be many frequent patrons and neighborhood folk. I absolutely recommend giving Maxwell Park a shot. read more

Phenomenal rotating selection of wines! I always come here when I'm in town. Best of all- they have half glasses so you can sip a little bit of a lot of great bottles. When I was there last they had white and rose Lambruscos that did not disappoint! read more

The staff here is amazing. Notably, the most beautiful pretty lady in the whole freakin city named Justice. She always goes above and beyond what is expected and actually makes the wine taste it's best. We're hoping to host our next major corporate event there. read more

A fantastic little neighborhood wine bar. My girlfriend and I arrived at 7pm on a Friday, so it was crowded. But the hostess found us seats at the bar. The service was excellent. There were too many wines by the glass to pick from, but a recommendation was always forthcoming. We were always given samples before a full glass was poured. Not too loud, and a nice selection of wines. I will definitely be back here. read more

GREAT PLACE! I love that they don't do traditional wines. I really felt like I was doing a wine tasting. The service was perfect and helpful. They asked what I usually drank, gave me a few samples and I decided on a wine that I had never had and loved it. Great place if you love wine and want to sample new things. The snacks were perfect. Loved the little olive and nut jars and the special of shaved truffle was amazing. The atmosphere is really good* Overall if you love wine, want to graze and have a cool place, this is it!!!!! * the space is beautiful, but got really loud when full. Please put some foam under the bar and tables to create more of a buzz than having to shout over the person next to you Will definitely go back!!!! read more

I love this place and it's my favorite wine bar! They do a different theme every month and will change wines through out the month. Every person who works here is extremely knowledgeable about wine and will help you pick out an option if you're not sure. You can also try a wine before you order a glass. They have a great collection of wines and offer 2.5 ounces and so you can try a bunch of different ones. They don't have discounted drinks for happy hour but they do give you a free apertif instead. They also do cocktails and delicious small plates. My friends and I come here every month. read more

Maxwell Park offers half glass, full glass, half bottle, full bottle pours. I am not a wine person at all, but the sommeliers will find something you like for even the beer snob like myself. It's a cool, upscale bar that everyone should venture and try. The food looked good as well. read more

I came here for happy hour and the bartender was a snob and super unhelpful. I ended up ordering cocktails after he rolled his eyes when I said I wasnt sure if I wanted white or red and maybe thats blasphemy in a wine bar but I honestly couldnt narrow it down and he was less than helpful. The wines are expensive and if youre not a wine snob you probably will get an eyeroll or some other snotty quip if you dare not order wine. The food was good but tiny--we got olives grilled cheese and a cheese plate and while yummy I definitely went elsewhere down the street to eat food that would fill me up. read more

We love this place! Typically, a wine bar comprises of an intimate, low-key atmosphere. This place has a chalk bar, extensive wine list, cheese boards, and awesome r&b/hip-hop playing in the background. Pretty disappointing experience. We got to Maxwell and were immediately met with an unfriendly server who, for some reason, also asked us if we knew it was a wine bar in case we were "mistaken". Odd but we let it slide. He told us to sit anywhere. Then he came back to tell us, without much of a sensible explanation, that we weren't allowed to sit at the table we chose before moving us to a spot without a working fire pit (on a chilly November night?!). After all this, he wouldn't even serve us. We stayed for a bit and eventually left when we realized we were probably being ignored. I'm really surprised given the overall good reviews. I will definitely not be returning nor recommending Maxwell to others. read more

This is a really good wine bar where you can have full or half glasses of wine, or bottles. I particularly liked it because I could try different types of wine for a great price and quality. I saw that a lot of "first dates" come here and I would definitely recommend it. However, we got here at 5:45 and the venue was already at capacity and we had to wait for people to leave before we could get a seat where we could eat (mind you, MP opens at 5). My suggestion is to come at 5pm if you want to get seated right away and not have to sit on the window sill. Nonetheless, our server was exceptional and helped us picked out great wines to taste while we waited for a seat where we could eat something. I also heard we came on an off night where the full food menu wasn't being utilized, however, the snacks offered were still great. I recommend the oysters and the seaweed bread. Great combo! Overall, I would suggest this wine bar to friends visiting or anyone looking for a great wine bar in DC. read more

Opening night @ Maxwell Park and you can already tell this place will be a hit. Such a congenial atmosphere with lots of industry folks coming out to show their love & support. Maxwell Park, above all else, is committed to wine education in the least pretentious form. There are many somms & soon-to-be-somms found here-- folks that will greet you with a smile, happily offer recommendations, but are far more concerned with what wine is the right fit for you. In June/July, white wines from around the world (new & old) are on feature (Anything But Pinot Grigio is the theme; Staff are rocking some mean ABPG shirts styled à la ACDC)-- but there are bubbles, whites & reds, as well as beers & cocktails, to meet all needs. In August, gear up for a bubbly feature. And while Maxwell similarly rotates its chefs, this month's dishes/tapas are not to be missed. We shared the duck prosciutto & smoked trout. They were so perfect to pair with the wines as we sat out on the uncrowded patio and watched people with their dogs stroll by. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood & I know we will be back to support Maxwell soon. Between the service, the array of quality wines, and the thoughtful plates, it's hard to settle for anything less. read more

Just got back from Maxwell Park. I was very pleased by the service and attentive-ness of the staff. The hostess had us waiting in a comfortable area and took our orders while we waited for a seat. And throughout the meal we had amazing service with great wine recommendations. Unfortunately, I have to give three stars because one of the three glasses I ordered cost an absurd amount of money ($20). I had ordered a lovely white wine that was recommended and was reasonably priced. When I asked for a Pinot Noir ($13) for my second glass I was told they did not have it, but had another Pinot so I ordered that. I was not told the price and when the bill arrived and I questioned it he just said that one was not on the menu, but cost $20. I found it incredibly sketchy and soured my experience of the whole evening. It was clear I was not trying to spend that much money and to not be told the price when it was so much higher than what I was trying to order is incredibly sketchy. I was upset that that led this review in a different direction, because I honestly was so pleased up until tha Update: The owner of Maxwell Park followed up on my review and apologized for my experience as they do not want anyone to feel tricked into an expensive wine. I was invited back for a wine tasting with my friend and had a great experience. Happy to be able to update my review! read more

Stopped her late night (10 m ish) after a show, (its location was across the street from our hotel, the Carmbria - also an amazing place) and host was very nice about giving us a choice between a table in a few minutes or community table. Sat at Community table, enjoyed the wine he recommended and some small plates of caviar and toast and smoked trout dip. Kitchen had run our of or could not fix some items on menu as it was too late. They are open till 1 am, which was great for us in our hotel. Was a remarkable place to eat. Wine selection is extensive and reasonably priced. Service was great. Had a blast. read more

This place is cute, but I guess I'm not that big on wine and wine bars. Their selection of wines is a bit esoteric, nothing I had heard of. Their prices even for a half glass seemed extremely expensive, much more than even at fine dining restaurants I have been to. Their food menu is very brief and nothing appealed to me. They have a few cocktails, but very basic ones like a plain old gin and tonic. I guess I'm more of a cocktail queen than a wine gal, so I don't get the appeal of this place at all, but to each their own! read more

This wine bar gets 5 stars for the decor and uniqueness. The slate counter top just nade my day. The wine menu is extensive and does cater to almost every style of wine and multiple price range. The only reason for 4 stars is the wait to get to the bar, the place is small but cute with outdoor patio seating. read more

I don't ever do reviews but this place deserves it. My fiancé and I received thzing service and style throughout the experience.

This is the destination for superb wine. Not only is the selection excellent, diverse, and select, but they serve each wine at its ideal temperature. It's not as simple as red=room temperature, whites=cold like many restaurants would have you think. There's a science to it and these sommeliers are sharing their expertise for our benefit. Each month has a new theme to the wine list which I think is super cool. I went during "Anything but Pinot Grigio" month showcasing some of Italy's lesser-known whites. I recommend talking to your sommelier and let them surprise you with some recommendations. Our sommelier, Daniel, did an excellent job getting in our heads, honing in on our palate, and pouring a different wine for each person in our group that was excellent. I understand the featured chef will be a rotating position but this month's small plates were superb. I had eaten dinner beforehand but still ended up ordering 3 plates for our table, all were delicious. Our group also shared a cocktail. You guessed it; it was delicious. I recommend this bar for a small group of people looking to enjoy a couple (or 5) glasses of wine before or after dinner. Or take a lesson from me and just order every small plate on the menu for dinner. Cheers! read more
