We met with Keith Beyersdorfer, the owner of Crest Remodel, in May of 2016 to build a custom home…read morefor our family, which with land, construction, and upgrades cost around $950k. We drove through the Stone Castle neighborhood and were very impressed with the outside appearances of the home and decided to build with him without doing the research, that looking back, should have been done. Construction was pushed back, delayed, etc. which all seemed relatively common in the construction business. However, he had a tendency to tell us it would be done in "a couple of weeks" several times, likely 5-7. He gave us yet another date and we confirmed several times that the home would be ready before moving in and we're told that it would be finished in the inside but there would maybe be some work to complete on the outside. On the day we moved in, we didn't even have a drive way to pull into, didn't have finished stairs, a finished master bath, there was dust covering everything and a list I believe to be about 3 pages long of things to complete. Once we moved in, things slowed down considerably. There would be several days where nothing was done despite the fact that it was suppose to be finished within 90 days after completion per our contract. We would even offer to leave the home and go to a hotel so work could be done if needed. Eventually, issues started to come up our stairs had holes in them, our stairs were stained extremely unevenly, we had wrong items installed per our contract, our stair railings fell onto our 5 year old daughter and were held on by half or less than the required screws, our walls were painted with different sheens of paint on the same wall (flat and satin). Our oven was installed severely dented and his resolution was for us to go "half in," cabinet knobs weren't installed in several locations of the home, we have 1 inch gaps between the flooring and the doors, many of the gutters leak, shower head hanging out of the wall, poor grading leading to a constantly swampy backyard, and some exterior painting that is very splotchy. Additionally, we received letters from businesses threatening to put a lien on our home because he wasn't paying the subcontractors, at least one or more of those businesses are STILL owed money more than a year later. Things started to become very worrisome whenever we began to really push the larger issues such as the stairs and basement leaking. He made small attempts to fix the basement leaking, however admitted to not knowing the cause of the leaking and not contacting someone who did. Eventually, he stopped responding to us all together despite his 1 year warranty and the fact the home hadn't even been truly completed, and still isn't. The basement leaks in multiple areas of the basement only during periods of rain and after having multiple waterproofing companies and a structural engineer come out, the general consensus is that it is a foundational issue. Either a crack or drain tile type of issue and to fully diagnose and fix the issue we have to rip out the walls. At this current time, our basement ceiling is starting sag in, our carpet is ruined, and most recently, mold is growing on our basement ceilings. These are serious serious issues, and my advice to anyone looking to build with Crest Remodel, or anyone else for that matter, is to do your research. If we would have taken a small amount of time to dig into this individuals background we would have found out that he has been sued by multiple people, including people who previously lived in this neighborhood, owes large businesses money, and has gone by multiple LLCs. We also would have found out that he is attempting to build homes for people between $800k-1.2 million in a neighborhood where the homes are struggling to sell for $600k. We have quotes currently exceeding $60k to repair these issues and this doesn't include the small items, the cost to replace ceiling and dry wall after the basement is repaired, or the cost to eradicate any mold issues that now exist. Be careful who you hire and ask for references. If anyone would like more information or photos, please feel free to contact me at madelynhindia@gmail.com.
