Used to really love this place. After all, being Filipino, sometimes you just get a craving for some of your tried and true comfort food. Our four person family just finished a trip to Seafood City and we thought, "Why not give their dine in experience another try." We got seated at 1:30 pm but left at 5 pm. Other reviewers said that you have to be Filipino to get service and that was absolutely not true for me. But, of course, was there with my non-Filipino husband and mixed kids. Despite being sat in the middle of the dining room, we ordered drinks about 30 minutes after being seated and didn't order food until 2:30 pm. When we finally got our appetizer of lumpia close to 3 pm, we were starving ... and thirsty because we still hadn't gotten our drinks. We had a sassy and mostly absent waitress; the other waiter really didn't want anything to do with us. We watched party after party get their food and leave. The schizophrenic and loud music didn't help our hunger at all. It was a mix of dance music, classic rock and R&B. It might have been more enjoyable if we had food or drink in the first hour we were there! When we finally got our food, we were being asked if we needed boxes and got our bill within 15 minutes. I'm glad we made an effort to flag someone down to pay our bill immediately because that also took some time and the family was glad to get out of there by 5 pm. After our Max's adventure, we had to find another place to eat because we were too afraid to order something else but mostly, no one wanted to come around and check on us. This place will be fine since most Filipinos in the area will come here given their name and reputation in the Philippines. But be forewarned, the service here is absolutely unforgivable and not a representation of what Filipino hospitality is. At this point, we're willing to drive all the way to Union City and go to Gerry's. Perhaps we will give Max's another try again in a few years, but it really sucks to eat somewhere where you feel you're not welcome. And when we do, I'll have to remember to speak in Tagalog to get some respect. read more

We went to this Restaurant last Saturday. 3/29/25 around 11:30am, and ordered 3 dishes to go: crispy Pata ($29.99) 1 whole Fried Chicken and Sisig Bangus. Our mistake was not checking our take out order before leaving. When we got home to Fremont and opened it, we discovered that the Crispy Pata had been replaced with Crispy Tadyang ($25.00) instead. Really disappointed. On the receipt, they billed us for Crispy Pata. this has happened 3 Times now. So bad:-( read more

They have a designated parking lot. We were the only ones there when we arrived, ordered, and left. When you enter there's lots of signs for social distancing. My friends are from the Philippines. I asked them if this was comparable to what they got at home. They said the rice was disappointing but the chicken was reminiscent of the chicken back home. They said the crispness was good. When we entered, there was a lady there with a face mask on to take the order. I was surprised to see they had a sign that they sold Starbucks coffee there. We waited a bit for the food. My mom and I usually go eat here when we buy our groceries at Seafood City. The food and service is usually decent but today our experience is very disappointing. The lechon kawali has more fat than meat. I took a photo of how big the fat in each slice and can't believe it. Went here last Tuesday with my mom after we went to a tire shop. They closed at 7PM and we got there like around 6:05 PM got our seats after 3 minutes of waiting. We ordered alot for only 2 people eating lol. We got a whole fried chicken, kare-kare, lechon kawali sisig, rice and sago't gulaman. They served our food very fast and the server was very nice. She gave us an advice for our future visit after seeing us that we will place our food in to-go boxes because we couldn't finish it. She said if she only knew that we won't be able to finish the whole order, next time we should try the bowls for the kare-kare and lechon kawali sisig. Before we left I asked our server if I could get a shaved iced for my sago't gulaman and she took my glass and transfer my drink into the cup and filled it with shaved ice and gave me an extra cup of ice as well!! I am currently in their waiting room waiting to be acknowledge. There are 5 more people besides me waiting for acknowledgement. They are either waiting for takeout pickup or order or dine in seating. I am waiting to get my takeout order corrected. I ordered chicken and crispy pata through their online ordering system and I was given two chickens instead. We have been going to Max Restaurant for over 20 yrs. One of the dishes we always order is the lechon kawali. Sadly the quality of the meat is now 50% all fat; a $17 dish. A kind server informed us that the meat ordered comes with a lot of fat and offered to replace the dish with another. A good restaurant should not serve food with such low quality if it wants to sustain its customers. Take it off the menu until the quality is restored. Had the Fried chicken and Pancit noodles, chicken was crispy and in my opinion must be eaten as soon as it is served, otherwise it tends to dry out as it cools off. Had our special event yesterday at this location. Very disappointing! Food selections (one of their package) were all unsavory. Chicken noodle soup was so salty Lumpia Shanghai tasted weird. Seems like the inside wasn't cooked Kare Kare definitely was not good. Seems like they just used the package to make the sauce. My cooking is definitely much more appetizing!!! Yes, I'm a great cook! All in all food was not really great! I don't think I will ever go back here. Most importantly never hold any event here. Service was also not good. Servers seems irritable. Definitely lack customer service. Careless...giving refill jars of water then knocking it down spilling water on the table. Mom was craving Palabok so I drove to Max's and ordered a halo halo while waiting for a whole spring chicken, garlic rice, pork bbq and lumpia Shanghai Everything was made with love and the pork bbq was better than Fil Am. It was the juiciest freshest yummiest bbq, chicken was great: potatoes were soft on the inside crispy in the outside and the garlic rice was stellar. This is what I was given after ordering four orders of Buko Pandan and paid $30.55 for the image below. I explained to the guy that I was traveling for two hours to a party so if they had maybe containers made of styrofoam so they wouldn't melt would have been great. But I did not expect THIS. I totally got ripped off and basically got two orders after paying for four. I tried to tell the guy that this wasn't acceptable and if there was a manager I could speak to. I even used Tagalog (tagalog is a second language for me). He said there wasn't a manager and then he changed his story up and said he was the manager. He confirmed to me that this was the way the order was expected to be. There wasn't even any LECHE FLAN... I usually, being the active event coordinator for my church and family, almost always purchase catering here for things like the holidays. I don't know so much now any more after this. After being super homesick, boyfriend decided to take me here in the hopes of curing at least some portion of my homesickness. Surprisingly, this didn't cure any of it. We were finally seated at 2 pm and didn't see a waitress to take our order until about 2:25 ‍. Our order consisted of: Pork BBQ, Sinigang na Baka, Lechon Kawali, a plate of rice and our free order of Lumpia Shanghai (download the app and you'll get it free too!) When it comes to the server, I'd suggest charming school. She didn't introduce her name (I later found out it's Jenifer), gave me attitude when I showed her the app that says I get a free order of the lumpia - she stated she would have to check with the manager, eventually coming back with a clipboard for me to fill out my email. Also, we didn't see her at all, after she took our order. Other random servers dropped off our food to us - along with the host. On to the food. Pork BBQ is 4 pieces for $13.99, not worth it - they give you the skinniest portions of meat (I added a photo) and most of it was fat covered in their sauce. Sinigang ($13.99) was okay, a lot of tamarind soup, but very very small amount of meat and barely any veggies - basically just enough to cover the top. Lechon Kawali ($13.99) was the biggest disappointment for me, as I had been craving it for awhile and it turns out, it's mostly over fried fat - which doesn't look anything like they advertise in their photos on the menu - also, the sauce is Mang Tomas sauce mixed with vinegar, super liquidy. The lumpia was okay, definitely tastes like the ones you can get at an asian market and just toss into some oil - but it was free, so it's fine. Finished our food at 3 pm, but quite frankly, we didn't finish anything except the Sinigang. It's now 3:21 pm and we're still trying to flag someone down for to-go containers for all the food (we're planning to give it to some homeless people) and our bill. 3:30 pm. We finally flagged down the waitress for the table next to us (she seemed so nice and apologized profusely) & she had someone bring us our to-go containers and plastic bags. However, that other worker just tossed it onto the table without an apology or greeting. Still no bill though. Guess we'll just have to go to the front for it. As much as I hate to admit it, especially with being a waitress for over 3 years, I was quite disappointed with their table touching "efforts" and customer service. This is the first time I am not tipping, any amount, at all. Manager on Duty removed $4.20 from my bill - whatever. I'm going somewhere else to eat. read more

Oh. My. Goodness. Where do I even start? If I could give this place half a star, I would. It seems like mostly everyone who reviewed this place has had the same experience as I. Here's my list: 1. The servers are SOOO slow. SOOOOO SLLLOOW. There's no urgency to bring you your menu, utensils, drinks, food, and your bill. If the servers aren't slow, then their short-staffed. If they aren't short-staffed or slow, then they just don't have the skills to work in a fast-paced environment. This restaurant was half empty, and there was a 20 minute wait at the door. How and why are they not seated?? 2. They assume you speak Tagalog if you look Filipino. My Tagalog isn't great, and they speak to you in a condescending tone if you talk to them in English. It makes for an inconsistent experience. 3. They were out of Kare-Kare...at 1 PM. Did they forget to make enough to serve customers all day? This is one of their specialties. 4. Any requests such as more water, extra condiments, napkins, etc...are treated with an irate attitude. If you want to have a great Max's experience, go to the Oahu location. If I could, I'd take the star I'm giving this place and give it to that location. I am never coming back here again. If you want Filipino food in this area, you have other choices. read more
