If you're craving Filipino comfort food, Max's Restaurant still delivers that nostalgic "home cooked family gathering" vibe. Their famous fried chicken remains a classic crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and best paired with banana ketchup and rice. Dishes like kare-kare, pancit canton, lumpiang shanghai, and sisig continue to hit the spot for us , and the atmosphere still feels warm and familiar for family style dining. The halo-halo is my favorite! It's this dessert that has all these jellies with mung beans and ube ice cream. It literally means "mix-mix" in Tagalog. I enjoy going to Max's in an hour because it reminds me of the Philippines. There's not a lot of Max in Manila restaurants the US and one the main places family from out of town love going to. They usually end up wanting to come here. Deducting one star because service is a bit or miss and the downside is the pricing.

I've been dining here for the last decade although it's a 45 minute drive since the atmosphere brings a nostalgic feeling. We've ordered fried chicken but it tasted dry than usual, pancit was great but not a lot of vegetables and sizzling pork sisig which was not served sizzling and full of fat rather than meat. Service was slow too and nobody offered a water refills. Max's glendale was a hit before but not on my recent visit, so dissapointed and will be hesitant to bring back friends and family.

Sour Pork Sisig - taste like soaked in vinegar and inedible.

Valet parking only. On a Monday night, the wait was short, which was a plus, but unfortunately the food was a big letdown. The pancit canton was rubbery and tasted overcooked. The pork sisig was worse,it had an oddly sour flavor, like chopped pork soaked in vinegar. It didn't taste right at all. I'm not picky with food, but this was hard to finish. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Feeling like im trying Max's again for the first time (haven't been since I was too little of a girl to remember), and obviously had to try the classics. The lechon kawali sisig (especially paired with the garlic rice) was SOOOO good. I want to say it's my favorite thing I ate but so was practically everything else. Lumpia was also delicious (I could eat multiple servings if I wanted too lol)! Also got a chance to try the calamansi juice. I will say it was very good but it is on the sweeter side so just be mindful. Staff was very sweet (very funny too when we tried not to get rice at first for attempted diet and he thought we were crazy Filipinos lol). The place itself in terms of ambiance was chill. It almost reminded be like a pancake house in a way I don't know why, but very chill area. Good parking around the area too. Salamat !!!

I didn't go inside since our friend got it for takeout!! so yummy that my friend's pupper begged for some too :)

We had a magnificent and memorable time celebrating my godmother's surprise 70th birthday party inside the private room at Max's Restaurant in Glendale. The staff and Tita Maria (owner/manager) provided excellent customer care and service from the time of booking and choosing the food items and menu for the dinner buffet and reserving the dinner buffet party up until the very end of the surprise birthday party. The private room was nicely decorated and set up for our birthday celebrant and guests. Max's staff even had a monitor set up to show videos and slides during the party. We even had music playing and the emcee hosting the celebration. Tita Maria we call her is the one that was the emcee during the celebration. She was also the event planner and menu planner at Max's. For the buffet, the food items served were, Crispy Pata, Kare-Kare, Sinigang, Max's Chicken, Lumpia, Pancit, white rice, Gulaman and Sago, Calamansi juice, Buko Pandan to name a few. They even provided to go boxes for all the left overs so the guests can take home the food. This is the 3rd time our family and relatives reserved a celebration at Max's Restaurant in Glendale and they always delivered with excellent customer service and delicious food. Thank you Tita Maria and Max's Restaurant in Glendale. See you guys again for the next celebration.

They have a parking lot, but its valet. $5 is the cost and theyre pretty fast. The host greeted us and we were sat within 10 minutes of our party's arrival. It is a family style restaurant and the ambiance was casual and very homey. The food was delicious! We were a party of 5 and we still had some left over food at the end. We got their signature fried chicken. It was moist, and it had the right amount of crisp on the skin. We got an order of their appetizer of lumpia and they were delicious. Small enough where you dont get full, but dangerous if you dont keep track of how many you ate. We also got the kara-kara (i may have spelled it wrong) but it felt like a home made meal. Their rice was nice and fluffy, just the way I like it. We also got an order of the glass noodles and that was by far my favorite dish of the evening! The server was extremely nice and checked on us every so often. The restroom was nice too! Can't believe this was in glendale this whole time. It was also a restaurant that my friend had on his list that he's been wanting to try. We will definitely be back.

I went here on Tuesday Jan 29 with my parents and uncle. We ordered kare kare and bangus sisig. Kare kare was amazing, the sauce was well-made and creamy. I've never tried bangus sisig before and I enjoyed it. Not that fatty compared to pork and beef sisig. We ordered more but they're not pictured. Service was great. The waitress asked us how we were doing often and got us napkins since we only had a cloth that held our utensils. Ambiance was nice, it was well lit. Music was playing, there were covers of different songs by I'm assuming Filipino and Filipina singers.

    Burned pork knuckles (Crispy Pata).

We ordered Crispy Pata "to go" but were very disappointed when we got home. As everyone can see from the photos I posted, we got a burned food. What happened with their quality control nowadays? Obviously it's charred and most likely cooked with old used oil. Called them at once to inform them but their Supervisor Ramir Cruz asked us if we can go back and they would replace it. But it took us 30 minutes of driving and with the gas prices right now! He suggested to give us a credit but with the kind of food quality they have now, I don't think we will come back anymore.

Good food and brings you back home. Restaurant is clean and service is great. Jason & Adrian were friendly and attentive. Parking is valet only with $5 service charge. Recommend for those who wants to try Filipino food.

I loveeee Max's! It's one of my favorite Filipino restaurants to go to whenever I visit this area. The service is good and fast. There's always a good amount of people there having a good time. My favorites: the chicken, cooked to perfection, the sinigang baboy - perfect amount of sour, and the Sago 't Gulaman is sooo delicious.

Was craving filipino food so we decided to go to Max's for dinner. Haven't been here in years and really like how they renovated! The space is more modern and clean. Staff was nice and attentive. They offer valet parking for $5 which I wish it was free self parking so you could probably just park across the street at the galleria and walk over. The sinigang was perfectly sour. Fried chicken still as good as I remembered and thankfully they still had banana ketchup lol. I wish i got the regular pork sisig because the lechon kawali sisig didn't really hit. The sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. Overall I would probably come back!

Decided to stop by for some comfort food. The restaurant was busy but we were able to get seated quickly. We ordered the sisig and palabok. Both dishes were average, nothing special. Food was overpriced as expected. I also got a calamansi drink which was refreshing. Great restaurant if you're in the mood for Filipino food but don't feel like cooking.

Color me confused because I had never heard of her. What rock have I been living under that I'd never heard of this place? So, early one Saturday, I pulled up with my sister from another mister to get our breakfast on. First of all, tell me why they're basically down the street from me. They've been around as long as I've been alive and not once had I been. Truly a shock considering my commitment with never making food at home. I stay eating outside. There was only one other group of diners while we were there. A family of 4 who were seated in the back room. We ended up being seated in the area facing Fountain. My first comment was how I felt like I was at my Lola's house because the decor was giving Lola vibes, in the best way. I felt like I was home. My friend got the laing meal and I got the tocino. We also got a side order of the sweet & spicy longanisa. Broooooooooooooo That food was wow. I'm gonna say it again - it tasted like home. Down to the fixins on the table like vinegar and suchas. I appreciated all the little touches. We ate so much yet still had so much leftovers. Their portion size was crazy. We would've been good with just one meal and another protein a la carte. We also got a small bowl of their arroz caldo. Let me tell you something, a single tear legit went down my left cheek. That tasted like what my mom made for me when she was still with us. The memories that came flooding back took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. We did order their famous empanada that never came. We had to remind our server that he never dropped it off. I'm not sure why he didn't double check if we still wanted them which we did. We would've obviously paid for them. Despite that they're getting all the stars from me because the food was fire and their drinks were 10/10. I got the Maria Clara. They also allow two free refills so that's a double win. I'm about to pull up every weekend. Take all my monies.

I felt comforted by the sourness of the Sinigang soup after feeling stressed about my final exam. I liked how the tocino wasn't fatty at all. I would recommend the Sinigang and Tocilog to other friends/my family. The service was great. Our server was nice and accommodated us quickly when we needed something. The wait time for the food we ordered wasn't so bad. I also liked the ambiance of the restaurant because it felt like I was inside a family friend's house, which was unique to me. The food is a little on the pricier side for Filipino food, but overall I had a great experience dining here.

This is a small Market that has a little bit of everything that you're looking for from Southeast Asia. It's like a 7-Eleven, Filipino style. It's fun to look at the various items available here. Their selection of items is always changing so I like to look at what's new and on display. I will sometimes ask the front counter what just came in. The Fresh Deli, located up a small incline to the left as you enter the market, is spectacular. The flavor of the food permeates the entrance to the market. They have an incredible selection of fresh made food. It is difficult to make a decision between the different items. I asked for some help from the gentleman behind the counter. I've dealt with Christian, Gabriel and Abraham and all three are knowledgeable and helpful. He was able to explain how some of the food was prepared and the special attention that was given to each individual item. I wanted to limit myself to two items. I decided on the special marinated Beef Caldereta and the Lechon Kawali. On another trip I decided to try the Pork Tochino and the Barbecue Chicken Skewers. I can't tell you how happy I am with the flavors of the food from the deli. Everything was done to perfection. The Chicken skewers were tender and moist with a great barbecue flavor. The Toccino had a nice marinade flavor and was not too sweet. The Lechon was tender and had enough fat to give it a great flavor and texture. I have to admit the Caldereta was my favorite. Great taste, texture, and just the right spices to give it a little kick. The rice and noodles were a perfect accompaniment. All the sauces I was given added to the flavor of all the dishes. At the cash register at the front counter I paid for my items and asked about other items coming in in the near future. I found out that they are not always sure what's going to become available but always looking for something that will make their customers happy. This is truly a family establishment. I found out that everybody there is related. They definitely give exceptional service and quality merchandise, and delicious food. I look forward to coming back and trying many other items both in their market area as well as the Deli.

Nestled in the sauce were vibrant, perfectly cooked vegetables: tender bok choy, slightly charred green beans, and slices of eggplant that had soaked up all the savory depth of the stew. At the heart of the dish lay generous chunks of beef -- fork-tender, deeply flavored, with just enough fat to melt into the sauce and give it that rich, silky mouthfeel Kare Kare is known for. Sprinkled over the top were crunchy bits, adding a satisfying contrast to every spoonful. Of course, the small side of bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) was essential -- a modest dollop transformed each bite, balancing the sweetness and creaminess of the peanut sauce with a punch of briny intensity. Paired with steaming garlic rice, every scoop felt like the perfect blend of textures and flavors, a true homage to the Filipino classic. Eating Spoon & Pork's Kare Kare felt both nostalgic and elevated -- the heart and soul of a traditional comfort food presented with an eye for freshness and balance. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.
