I ordered coffee and the waiter just filled my boyfriends without asking and we were later charged 2.50 for coffee we didn't originally want. We just thought the prices were pretty steep for 2 cups of coffee, sausage, pancakes and french toast. It came out to about 40 dollars for breakfast with tip. We went to Maxfield's while staying in the area (we are from Wisconsin). The food, service and prices are excellent. I have NEVER had a cheesecake that was the best I ever ate. Totally AWESOME!!! We ordered one a day ahead of time (we wanted a whole one) to bring home. Our family and friends also raved about how good it tasted. You go in a grocery store or bakery around here and they want a small fortune for a so-so cheesecake and the very small in size. There you get a huge cheesecake for $22.35. If you add the giant strawberries it's only a $1.00 more. As a matter of fact, my husband is going through the area today and we ordered another one to bring home. I go to Maxfield's 3 to 4 times a week. Never been disappointed. Great for breakfast lunch and dinner. Very clean restaurant ,excellent food, reasonable prices, great people, great service, and best french fries anywhere. The food is consistently delicious. Great soups,specials, great wraps, great skillets. The dinners are excellent! I love the salmon. Did I mention they have the best french fries anywhere or that I have ever had? Had a great breakfast here last Saturday. Split an omelet (huge, includes potatoes and pancakes)! And it was served on 2 separate plates--nice! This was the first AND LAST time for me. I arranged to have a small get together with family members here and was embarrassed at my choice of restaurants. Four of us ordered dinners and the other breakfast. Cream of broccoli soup was served with the dinners. Most of the broccoli in the soup was stems. The dinners came out after the soup. I had ordered chopped sirloin which had a very funny taste and told our waitress about it. She was very nice and asked if I would like something else. I decided on an omelette as I didn't want to order another meat dish. The omelette was ok. When the bill came I noticed they took off the charge for the chopped sirloin and added in the charge for the omelette which was fine. I also noticed another charge for $2.95 and asked what this was. I was told it was for the soup I was served prior to getting the bad chopped steak. I was a bit upset and they told me I shouldn't have eaten the soup. I explained that I wouldn't have eaten the soup if I would have known that the chopped steak I was going to be served next was bad. They were unwilling to take off the charge of the soup. So not only did I have to pay for my replacement meal, I had to pay for the soup and was not able to eat my meal with everyone else as I had to wait a bit for it to be served. My sister-in-law's potato pancakes were over cooked. Another person's mashed potatoes were served with a gravy that was very strange. My father ordered broiled salmon which he said was very good. Everyone else said their meal was just okay. I would suggest to the management that they rethink their customer service policy if they want to gain return business. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast a few weeks ago. The food is good, the orange juice is fresh, fast service, clean glasses & silverware - can't ask for much more from Maxfields. This place attracts many older couples and families because of the friendly atmosphere and good prices. Overall I give Maxfields 3 stars - its your typical Greek owned restaurant with a good breakfast crowd. I'll be back for more (and not only because its right around the corner). read more

Well, I learned a valuable lesson today. I thought I was going to have Eggs Benedict for Lunch @ $7.75 like their website says and then the waitress hands me the menu and "Poof" there it is Eggs Benedict $9.25. So they haven't updated their website since Windows 98 was all the rage. I should have gotten up and left right then but I thought I'll try it once even though deception is the name of the game for this restaurant. Pretty Shoddy if you ask me. Anyway, what happened next was a plate Eggs Benedict was put in front of me with burnt to a crisp hash browns (the kind that feel like they are going to break your teeth when you chew) not to mention no Melon Mix was provided as advertised on their 1998 website menu. The worst was the Hollandaise, it was thick and you could tell it was made from some pre-mixed concoction and tasted absolutely horrible. Tack on $2.25 for 8oz of soda and a tip adds up to $15.66. Newsflash to the Owner, Update your website with current pricing and unless you're going to learn how to make an edible Eggs Benedict it should be removed from the menu immediately (if not sooner)!!! #STOP THE DECEPTION!!!! read more

We wanted to try Wildberry pancake house in Schaumburg but the wait time was more than 40mins. So we decided to try Maxfields instead. My husband and i are so glad we got to try the best pancakes in town! We went here on Sunday morning around 11:30am. Wait time was 15mins. The person who appears to be the owner or the manager got us a table next to the window :) we were given 3mins to look over the menu then our server(i wish i knew her name but she didnt introduce herself) came to our table to take the order. She recommended their potato pancakes, which was so delicious. I will definitely go back to try their potato pancakes again! Overall, we had great experience with Maxfields. And i will request our server next time we are eating here. She was one of the best servers in town. She deserves 30% tip. read more

Not that great. Typical Greek-owned coffee house. I would not eat there for lunch or dinner, but it's OK sometimes for breakfast. However, the cook must be in a hurry because he often undercooks the food.... eggs can be mushy, and the hash browns are NOT BROWN. read more

My family and I have been going here for years. Their soup is absolutely delicious! We go every year on St. Patrick's Day for their con beef and cabbage. It is a huge portion and delicious. A good, reasonably price diner that has been around for ever. Nothing fancy but consistently good food. Lots of specials, you get soup or salad with your meals and the traditional diner bread basket. How do you mess up Breakfast??! They sure did. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. GROSS. The corned beef hash looked and tasted like dog food - straight out of a can, I'm surprised it didn't have the rings from the can on it. Hash browns were soft and not crunchy. "Eek! Methinks not." Yes, that pretty much sums up our experience tonight. Before I begin, though, let me just say I don't typically make it a habit of writing bad reviews. Even so, please keep in mind that this is just one person's opinion. Take it how you will. Ok, here we go... For me, the bread should have been warning enough to get up and leave. I'm willing to bet that I can safely say that most people who are dining in get a little excited seeing what appears to be a nice, fresh batch of homemade rolls arriving to their table, compliments of the house. At least, that's how it is with us. The bread was cold. The bread was stale. It was hard. In other words, it had seen better days. If I had to guess, I would say it was the same bread a number of other patrons had on their tables before us. I worked in the restaurant business many years, and sadly, that's how things sometimes work. "Don't toss the bread, just throw it back in the warmer!" Next, came the soups and salad. Yum yum, homemade clam chowder! Ok, maybe not. If that's homemade, I'm President Obama! OMG! By this time, we are literally in dread of the main course to come, and watching the party next to us half-heartedly pick over their food--which incidentally had to be sent back being too cold--did not help matters. Ok, so our meals come after a pretty lengthy wait. I got the meatloaf, my wife got the Yankee Pot Roast, and my daughter got the meat sauce spaghetti. Honestly, and I'm not embellishing here, you couldn't see my meatloaf for the gravy it was swimming in, let alone the mashed potatoes. I know some of you are shaking your heads right now, ready to string me up for being so picky, but it was not edible. The spaghetti was straight out of high school, the roast beef was tough and tasteless, and the meatloaf, well, let's just say I should keep that description to myself. When the server came for the party across from us and delivered the standard "How was your meal?" take a guess at how they responded. The guy, like myself, gave the profanatory, "It was good. Thank you." The lady, however, would have none of that. She just said, "It was disgusting. We couldn't eat it. And honey, stop being so nice." My kids, bless their hearts, also responded, "Good". My wife and I just nodded and politely asked for the check. Now listen, folks, I know I've written some pretty harsh words here, but I truthfully cannot recall a worst experience in my life. The fact that the host--or what looked to be the owner---didn't ask me about my meal or the party after us, is confirmation enough that this restaurant has some serious issues with their dinner menu. I have no qualms with their breakfast. I've never had it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was just fine. Pretty hard to screw up breakfast, in my opinion. Anyway, my stomach and I felt compelled to write this review, because seriously I can't imagine how there could possibly be many people out there that have enjoyed having dinner at Maxfield's.
