I recently had some clogging that a doctor at urgent care (yes, I know better) and my PCP couldn't properly diagnose. Not only did Dr. C. figure out what was going on within minutes but he also took care of it and I was unclogged and able to hear again! He was so thorough, kind, and funny. I asked him to be my BFF. Seriously, he was so knowledgeable and he actually listened to me!! I liked the handheld camera he gave me so I could see what he was looking at in my ear. I did however proclaim it to be gross, haha. When a doctor takes the time to show compassion and provide treatment, it's amazing. And quite frankly the way it should be. I decided to travel from Houston to Austin to have the procedure with Dr. Cherico, who removed my brother's gallbladder a little over 5 years ago. What a wonderful experience! His "bedside manner" is exceptional; he is funny, easy-going, and informative. More importantly, he must be an expert surgeon! My recovery was SO easy (it was harder getting over the flu!). I was worried about the pain from the gas after surgery, but I had ZERO problems. As others here have noted, one never feels that he's in a rush to wrap up his time with you and move on. He takes time to engage in a conversation with you, to listen to your concerns and questions, and to address them thoroughly. For me, good communication is the most important quality I look for in a primary care doctor, aside from a basic confidence in his/her competence. Dr. Killian has helped me better understand my various medical issues and articulates his treatment goals and methodologies in an exceptionally thorough and understandable manner. I have a fantastic cardiologist who is also an excellent communicator, but I have often found myself with Dr. Killian explaining and helping me understand my heart issues more completely than I would listening to my cardiologist alone. He is thorough in integrating test results and other information from the cardiologist (and other specialists) into my patient records to maintain a complete understanding of all my ongoing medical issues. I could scarcely ask for more than that. His group practice, Red River Family Practice, is well-run, and I have encountered very few of the office/administrative frustrations I have at similar group practice offices. Reading some other less-than-positive reviews here, I'm reminded that no single physician is likely to be the right fit for every patient, each with their unique concerns and expectations. That said, Dr. Killian is a perfect fit for my priorities and expectations, and his competence and professionalism provide a rock-solid foundation to support those preferences.
