The box was closed with two strips of tape and they refused to open it up for me because they said it was their policy that if the box was open, I would have to buy it and could not return it. Neither of them could find the measurements on the box or anywhere else. I asked whether since they worked in a hardware store, they might be able to figure out how to put two more strips of tape back on the box if I ended up not purchasing the item. They clearly did not care at all. Terrible customer service completely unhelpful will never shop here again.

Bob seems to know something if not more than that about just everything. He also knows just about every contractor and building super in Hell's Kitchen, and has referred me to a few different people that I've hired to help me out. Screw Angie's List - just ask Bob (should I trademark that?). His hardware store has nearly everything you'll need for your home improvement projects, and, if it doesn't, he'll order it for you and it'll get there fast. His prices are better than Lowes and Home Depot and so is his service. I just wish they were open longer hours as they close promptly at 5pm and aren't open Sundays. Any contractor in the area knows that Garden Hardware is the place to go. Sure, Metropolitan Lumber & Hardware over on 11th Ave is much larger and has more stuff, but the people over there are seriously rude and most have no idea what they're talking about. I'll stick with Bob.

I showed the gentleman one of the screws, and he made sure that I got the exact screws that I needed. Another gentlemen also asked before I checked out if I managed to find the right screw, and I find that very nice, since it showed a sense of caring and compassion for the customer, which is something so many stores are forgetting about. Just note that there is a $10 credit/debit card minimum, so if you are buying something under $10 after tax, you need to pay cash.

That being said I like local shops, and I'd go back to Mushtari for hardware needs or to have a coffee - if you walk in, the middle of the store has a nice cafe! Check it all out!

Finally the contractor suggested Tribeca, we went to the NYC location and found several samples that were sent to us within days. Hooray we found exactly what we wanted not just aesthetically but meeting all the technical aspects required. The staff was excellent, especially Erin who sent additional samples with estimates, and answered all questions about quality and warranty.
