The food is presented so lovely and still this place serves my favourite mocca…read more I don't like that you will only be seated at the bar if you don't eat. You shouldn't have to be banned at the bar if you are 'only' getting coffee or an expensive smoothie. If you want tap water be prepared to ask numerous times but sadly that seems to be the norm in cafes now. If it's free, it's not important...sigh

Friendly staff seems to be the consensus among Yelpsters when it comes to The Missing Piece…read more Friendly and observant. With Mr Hangrypants distracted by a sneaker store down the way, I lined up alone to get a table as there was a bit of a queue. "Table for two?" I was asked almost immediately. Crikey, she must have seen us coming a mile away. Bill arrived as I was being shown to our table and we were efficiently given menus and then not forgotten about despite the place being jammed. We ordered food and coffee and the drinks arrived almost immediately, again, as I already mentioned, despite the place being jammed. A little while later our food arrived piping hot, again, and I can not be more emphatic about this, DESPITE THE PLACE BEING JAMMED! This sort of efficient service just doesn't happen in suburban Sydney. The coffee at The Missing Piece is great. The food is top quality. We had Big Breakfasts or "The Complete Picture", in keeping with the theme. Standard price at $18. I was thoroughly impressed all round with my experience and will be back. The only downer is that the OJ is really some kind of Orange Fruit Drink and I did come here one time early on in the piece and they served my tea with milk in a syringe on the side. I hope they have stopped that off putting little nod to modern cafe hipsterism. Other than that, all good in the hood (if North Ryde could indeed be described as a hood...)

I only knew about passion tree because I saw a pic on inst Abram of their watermelon shaved ice,…read more which looked very impressive. It was a watermelon half topped with a shaved ice and sorbet and then surrounded by watermelon balls. Definitely instagram worthy! The place is hard to find, which was troublesome for us and our reliance on google maps. The decor is really bright and fun, with chairs hanging from the ceiling- pretty cool and chill atmosphere. I was so sad to find out that the watermelon shaved ice was no longer on the menu, being replaced by a pineapple version.. But oh well, they had Hong Kong honey toast and other things. We chose the Hong Kong toast, the adzuki bean shaved ice and a peach Earl Grey ice tea. After spending a few minutes for photos (the presentation was pretty nice) we dug in. I have to say, the honey toast was on the small side because you'll find ones double or triple the size in Hong Kong, but it was really rich and delicious which it should be. The honey was more like a butterscotch, very fragrant and creamy. The bread was a buttery brioche type bread with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The thing that really sets it off was the flaked almonds because the rich nutty toasty flavour adds that extra depth. On the other hand, I didn't enjoy the shaved ice because I prefer the fresh, fruity shaved ices. This one had a lot of different flavours like adzuki bean, toasted crunchy nut (?), some peanut buttery sauce, mini mochi, toasted almonds and other random things. Once you stir everything together and mix it with the ice it looks like a hot mess, really gross looking. Those flavours mixed together can work, but not with the watery ice puddle mixed with it. Watery and creamy... Thus us why I prefer fruit shaved ice. This was a miss and I ate the toast instead. The ice tea was nothing special, slightly artificial peach flavour with a hint of tea and way too much ice. No Bergamot flavour which is standard in Earl Grey. Not worth the $5-6. Overall, nice relaxing place that's a bit hidden away. The honey toast was surprisingly good but the shaved ice wasn't at all and neither was the ice tea. Total order came to $30. I feel that if you know what to get then it will be a better experience overall.

Pretty standard stuff, and if there was any reason to go back, I think it'd have to be for the Matcha Mochi Pancakes which I am yet to try but look so good. They do seem to stock the cakes from Passiontree Velvet which I've tried at Macquarie Centre where the carrot cake was very very nice. However I haven't tried the cakes here, instead had one of their fizzy drinks, coffee, macarons, and a bingsoo. Nothing outstanding. The ade was particularly average. Also wifi is lousy here, doesn't even work properly.

If you're looking from a change up from the regular brunch options, head to Kin. Kin serves up…read moreAsian fusion brunch. They have congee and they put onsen eggs in everything! The congee was interesting, but at $15 a bowl of boiled white rice, compared to less than $5 a bowl at every other Chinese restaurant, it's a bit steep. Tasted and looked good though. The onsen eggs on toast and salmon was okay, but tasted a bit too ordinary. I saw both the ex Masterchef contestants hard at work. I liked seeing that they were personally behind the food and care about delivering quality food to customers. Too often these days, a celebrity chef will leave the restaurant to run itself.

Well Kin is a bit like that but also in every way the opposite. Kin serves Asian-style cafe food, spanning Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Malaysian cuisines with some Australian cafe style food to boot. And somehow...it works! The salmon is out of this world - super tender but with a lovely charred surface. My money's on sous vide then blow torched. The accompanying spinach is a curious ball of umami and the onsen eggs have me leave poached eggs behind in the dust. The pho is incredibly rich yet delicate and the black sesame shake is grey like concrete, just the way black sesame anything should be. Despite not being a follower of My Kitchen Rules, I somehow still know of Shanelle and Uel. It's a delight to see them hard at work in the kitchen when we visit and even more so when we see them truly embodying their name, bantering with their staff and checking in to make sure they've eaten. It is clear that the food here is made with love. Kin, try as you may to keep me away with your terrible parking, puns and queues, but I will be back for the rest of the menu!

Even though they use the same brown seats as in Taiwan, that for a split second makes me travel miles and miles to a happy time in my life, when I take that first bite into whatever I've ordered it's just doesn't taste the same. I always struggle with what to order here. Not this time though! When I walked in I saw a sign board next to the counter that read 'yummy black sesame soup with toppings of smooth tofu pudding, chewy mini taro balls and lovely red beans'. Only served hot but I was very much in the mood for a warm dessert. I ordered the sesame soup and the cashier entered it into the machine and then ordered a milk tea which she keyed in too. Came to payment time and some other girl came over and said "I told you already we ran out of the sesame soup". NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shattered! If you've run out of something you should either take the sign down or stick something over it to say it's sold out. False advertising! False hope! Real sadness! Real disappointment! *cry* http://www.yelp.com.au/biz_photos/eU82PxVanczqriHz5uZkgg?select=rjRqcPw2dgdSSiYQvp_38g#rjRqcPw2dgdSSiYQvp_38g how good does it look!!!
