Pork belly with an onsen egg

So thankful to have Kin as my local brunch spot. As contestants of My Kitchen Rules, Uel and Shannelle know how to cook the best Asian fusion brunch food. Usually the re is a bit of a line on Saturdays (heads up, not opened on Sunday's) but it's all worth it, especially if you come in a bit early around 11/11:30! I had the pork belly waffles which I ate every last bit of and my friend had the soft shell crab pasta which packed quite a chilly punch. Definitely worth it for a weekend treat yourself brunch

If you watched My Kitchen Rules in 2014 then you will remember the newlywed contestants Uel and Shannelle. They're such a cute couple and i love their rhyming names. Kin by us opened up earlier this year located at 2 Saunders close, North Ryde so only about 5 mins away from Macquarie Centre. Upon walking in they have large communal tables as well as smaller tables. You can see both Uel and Shannelle busy in the kitchen preparing the food. Its actually pretty cool to see them. We arrived around 11.30am just to beat the lunch crowd. Its Table service so you get seated when you arrived. They have a daily special for sandwiches on the wall - but i had already made up my mind before i arrived :) For drinks we got a Nutella Mocca and Flat white. For food, ordered the Black lotus (black sticky rice, roasted fig, coconut milk & three mana) and the Miso yummy (miso salmon, onsen egg, sesame spinach & sourdough). The black lotus is well presented - one of the best looking dishes i've ever seen! And tastes delicious too - not too sweet so you can finish it all. I tried a bit of the salmon and that was also good. Loved everything! I look forward to trying their Waffle Belly or maybe their Sub-marine?! Hmm their menu looks like it needs to be conquered!

    Soft shell crab roll

The decor is nice and the fitout has a good feel to it, it was pretty busy so getting in early is a must they stop serving food at 2.30 so please note that I had the soft shell crab roll which is nicely presented and initially is very nice, but it does get a little boring after bite 4 or 5 the novelty is gone and you kind of want to finish it. Id recommend sharing a few little plates as other dishes I saw looked delicious. Their coffee and dessert drinks look nice. Overall I'd come back just not go out of my way kind of rush if that makes sense

Some cool instagram pics led me to seek out this place. I was not disappointed. Not only were the menu prices inexpensive, but the food was just as delicious as it looks. The shop is on the corner of a new apartment block near macquarie uni, cool for out, steel and wood furniture and an open kitchen..geez I wish this place was here when I was at college.. would have been here all the time. We ordered the 'Kincheese burger' / a double wagyu party, kimchi waffles, smoked cheese and curly fries. OMG the tastiest thing I've had in forever, the waffles had a nice spice, fresh meat and some amazingly gooey cheese. I ate with a knife and fork not like a burger style but I'm sure that would be the way to go, but so big! Really nice seasoned fries. We had the "snap, crackle pop" which is chicken rice, Onsen egg and peas with some chicken crackle. A nice flavoured rice and a beautifully runny Onsen egg that oozed yolk just as it should. Accompanying the meal was the 'golden gay time shake that was chocolate and toffee ice cream with cream and honeycomb biscuit on top. Tasted exactly like a honeycomb milkshake. So I absolutely recommend making your way out here to try. Japanese inspired dishes for breakfast and lunch and certainly very tasty.

Huge props to Chef Kwon. Came over to our table and recommended some signature dishes to our Eemo (auntie). He is truly a master on the (open) kitchen, watching him work tells me that he takes much pride in his culinary skills. BFF bun, soft crab pasta, chicken salad, donut congee, a rootbeer float & a sesame smoothie was recommended all a part of our lunch. Surprisingly my favourite was the salad, the chicken on it was so soft and tender, must have been slow cooked. Could sell that dressing recipe to some high end NYC restaurant, a delicate savoury pinch not overly tangy but not too sweet or salty. Tip for the pasta, drench it with the lime half way, changes the flavour from delicious to delectable. The children had the donut congee, no complaints . Our server and waitress was super nice also, not always common in a culture where tips aren't typical.
