There is nothing like a hot chocolate and I can make a really good hot chocolate and I don't use powdered chocolate, I melt actual chocolate. But I have to admit defeat, because I cannot make a hot chocolate like the Italian Thick Chocolate I had at Max Brenner in Bondi Westfield today, I stared at the menu for I don't know how long, trying to decide between the Italian and the Danish Toffee Chocolate, and I would still like to try the Danish, but the Italian was Chocolate Heaven. It was so rich I felt a little bit sick afterwards, but it was absolutely worth it, I don't think I have ever tried another hot chocolate, which comes anywhere close. I think I might have to indulge in one of the Sundays there one day, they look pretty special, but they had better be at $13.50 each, for now the Hot Chocolate is more than enough to keep me satisfied. Max Brenner, you should be worshipped.

Most places would be pretty quiet at 8.30pm on a Sunday - just not Max Brenner! Being located under the Bondi Junction Event Cinema doesn't do busy any harm either I can imagine - it seems like a good pre or post movie spot. Now I don't have much of a sweet tooth, thus I had not been here before I went along for a friend's birthday. It's definitely an experience and if you like chocolate, well, there's really no reason not to love this place! Even as a non-plussed chocolate consumer, I thought this place was great. More from a concept point of view and the way it was laid out more than the opportunity to send myself into a sugar crash. I bypassed the chocolate pizzas and the fondue that would undoubtedly cause me to spend the next 4 weeks running back and forth to work, and just went with the Italian Thick Hot Chocolate (because that was SO much healthier!) - $6. The table service was remarkably slow, and the girl who was serving us spilt a rather hot chocolate on a couple of our fellow gorgers (yeah, that went down well!), but when it finally did arrive, it was certainly chocolatey! So it passed that test. Some of the other treats that were adorning the table were pretty impressive creations, but definitely things to share for fear of getting a little sick. If you're into your chocolate, I'm sure you'll be in heaven, but if you're like me and don't mind it every now and then, it's fun just to pop in and give it a try!

Was craving some dessert and Max Brenner hit the spot. I got the Tutti Frutti waffle which was a belgian waffle covered in chocolate served with strawberries, bananas, and ice cream. The combination of fresh fruit, creamy ice cream, milk chocolate, and crunchy waffle was amazing. Every bite was a wonderful sweet taste that wasn't too sugary. My friends ordered the chocolate fondue and were satisfied as well. Overall, a great place to grab some dessert with friends!

I've dined many times at Max Brenner and most items are very good! I ordered the crepe recently and it was tasty. The crepe has a soft texture but inside has a surprising crunch of cookies which added a special element to them. I also recommend the hot chocolate but to add these crunchy malteeser like balls inside.. It really adds another dimension... And the soufflé = volcanic chocolate explosion as soon as you put your spoon in there. A surprising sweet and sour drink which is fruit based is called the pink granita! This is a very sour, very sweet passion fruit based frappe which can really wake up your taste buds! (I've clearly tried the whole menu haha). This cafe is located below ithe cinema in the Westfield so can get quite busy right before or after a movie ends.

Chocolate frappe- naughty but worth it!

My first time in a legitimate chocolate shop and it was as decadent as you can imagine. A definite stop while in Sydney because...do you really need an excuse?

The House of Chocolates has been here as long as I remember - and I grew up in the Eastern Suburbs. It still has an old-fashioned sweet shop kind of feel, I always expect some jolly fat man to come out from the back proffering a tray of freshly made chocolate treats*. (*Note: This has never happened.) We used to come here sometimes after a day at the beach for little hand-made chocolate penguins for a treat, so I have happy memories associated with this place. Add some choc endorphins to that and this is my Happy Place. The chocolates are hand-crafted by Sydney chocolatiers but they also have a small number of imported sweets. My favourites: chilli and salted chocs, and of course the Happy Place penguins.

This old fashioned sweet store will conjure up memories of what life was like when you were a kid. There is so much variety and choice from local Aussie treats to fancy chocolaty imports. They have lollie jars, and sugary options are well as finely finessed hand made goodies. Prices start from $1 and could easy go into the hundreds depending what type of chocolate addict you are. I find this a fun place to try a bit of chocolate experimentation. Why not treat your taste buds to something new by purchasing a new flavour. It's a fun place to bring kids and kids at heart... I would suggest stopping in just to browse, but if you can leave without purchasing something than you have a lot more will power than I do...

When I say this boutique is little, I mean tiny. I'm guessing most people window shop (unless they already know what they want) before entering to purchase because you couldn't really fit more than five or six people tops. Unlike most chocolate stores where they have hoards of chocolates stacked on top of each other in a seemingly endless supply, Just William Chocolates display only a handful of pieces onto a small dishes of each type of flavour. Some have two types of flavours on one dish. When you do actually go inside there's a few more choices that weren't out on the window display. If you're looking for a present and wanting to get these chocolates boxed, the packaging is well designed and they have a great variety of ribbon to choose from. I just wanted to try a couple that caught my eye from the window. The caramel fudge was amazing as it had pieces of ginger through it. Also the 'honeycomb bark' was great too. I should've gotten a bigger piece!

The shop window, laden with delicate rows of glossy brown orbs, promised respite, sustenance and chocolate-fixes from what had seemed to be a life without chocolate. Stepping over the threshold, a fabulous cocoa-rich waft tantalised my nostrils. Oh finally, I thought, my chocolate-famine has come to an end. I enthusiastically started pointing out truffles, buttons, bombes, ganaches and pralines that I wanted to buy. I liked their witty names - the B52 Bombe, for example; their hand-written labels; the brightly coloured ribbons and exquisite packaging. Of course, the chocolates tasted as delicious as they looked - no surprises there. They are expensive, at around $12 a kilo. But you have to pay for quality, and in a climate that isn't conducive to chocolate, I think they're worth every dollar. These are the type of chocolates that everyone loves to receive as a present. The packaging makes them even more wonderful. The choice that is available means there will be something for everyone - from the traditionalist who just wants a dark chocolate truffle to the fruit bat who wants a strawberry fondant - Just William can cater to all your chocolate desires.

The sign outside the door is the clue: it's not closed, it's a chocolate shop and the sunlight that streams through the windows threatens to melt the beautiful glossy orbs arranged in the counter. As soon as you cross the threshold, a glorious chocolaty waft envelops you. A plate with little pieces of chocolate invites you to taste; knowing that as soon as you do you won't be able to resist buying something. The owner and pastry chef of this glorious shop is Carlos Do Carmo. He is incredibly friendly and happy to answer any chocolatey-related questions; having trained at Le Cordon Bleu pastry course, he is an expert chocolatier and pastry chef. His elegant arrangements of domes, swirls and hearts are filled with 26 intriguing flavours such as chai, ginger, chilli, coconut, mint, wine and spice. This is the type of chocolate you eat with eyes closed, savouring the melt and the slow spread of flavour. His Marrakesh dark chocolate truffle was my favourite: fragrant, unique and warm and fantastically chocolaty. But Do Carmo doesn't just make chocolates. His Portugese heritage is evident in his custard tarts, bean tarts and palmiers, made daily. His passion for pastry and his determination to sell only the best, freshest chocolates and pastries is admirable and unusual. If you want to order something in advance, Do Carmo will make it just before you arrange to pick it up, to ensure maximum freshness. I highly recommend the devilishly rich hot chocolates - warm, smooth and guaranteed to satisfy the biggest chocolate craving. Although there isn't much room to sit and enjoy, Do Carmo is incredibly welcoming and there are a few items of elegant cast iron furniture to perch on. This is a wonderfully authentic and fresh chocolate shop, where you can be sure everything is of the highest quality. You'd be mad not to go here.

In fact, as Vanderwell's owner explains, the chocolates spend less time in transit than the people of Bruges do when they decide to visit Australia. The most popular is a rich hazelnut praline, but my personal favourite is a vanilla medallion: a crisp layer of dark chocolate, filled with an oozingly rich vanilla cream. Amongst others, there are horse-shaped pralines, strawberry creams, mocha blocks and fruit and nut buttons. Tucked away in a back street of Double Bay, this shop is a gem of a discovery.
