Did the cow jump over the moon on this one? I don't think so, because perhaps that sweet milk of hers helped to make some of the best gelato I have ever tasted in my life. A friend of mine had given me one suggestion for this whole Sydney trip I was on- check out Cow & The Moon, and get their gelato. If more than once, then yes, but I had to experience it at least one time before I left the city. An hour of walking west of Sydney and some good sites along the way, I had made it to this shop and saw before me a plethora of amazing gelato. The little shop had no queue when I rolled in, and the two workers behind the counter were incredibly sweet and recommended me some flavors to try. Apparently, they are national and international winners with their gelato, and I believe it! From the flavors I tried, I picked up their Passion Fruit gelato and it was to die for. So much substance without it being overly sweet... my goodness. The servings here are so generous that even a small with two flavors should suffice. I can't recall which of their other ones had won awards, but believe me when I say that everything was good. Thanks Cow & The Moon for an epic gelato experience unparalleled to anything I've had before.

Always a crowd pleaser! There unfortunately is a line down outside to get in most times I've been. It moves quickly if there aren't to many 'try before you buy' people ahead of you. Great selection of flavours. Affogato, Tiramisu, Passion fruit cream, Pistachio Gelato, Coffee, Popcorn, Salted Caramel, Raspberry Cheesecake and the list goes on. Generous scoops for a small $6 cup. Worth the wait - hell yes!

I was encouraged to provide a review after way too many visits to Cow & Moon. There is almost always a line up so if that is your metric of good, this place wins for sure. What draws people in the first time is the international win in Italy of the BEST GELATO IN THE WORLD. No joke. They were one of three gelato places in Australia invited to Italy and they won with their creation - an almond affogato flavour. Yes, it has espresso in the flavour so that is a plus for me. But there are also some other ingredients - carmelised almonds. Delicious. BUT you can't buy it to take away in a large container. They only sell it in cones and cups there. I actually only had it once - there are so many other flavours to try. Vanilla Bean is awesome and intense. But lately they experiment in their 'gelato lab' and come up with new ones all the time. chocolate and plum was yesterday's incarnation. But really you have to try what they have and they have great people working so you can easily try a few before deciding. I've never pushed my luck since by the third or fourth I definitely want more than just a taste. Yes, they have a solid chocolate and it may even be better than Messina but you will need to do side by side tasting to make a final decision. Yes, you go there for ice cream but they have sorbets and some pastries and of course coffee.

Can I give 10 stars? Easily best gelato in Sydney and apparently the world! We got married in Italy and had gelato the day after our wedding, had many trips to Italy, and lived in NYC the past four years, so humbly feel I can say I've had a few exceptional gelato in my life and this was = off the charts, shut the door, hold the phone kinda good. I almost don't want to promote them because they are so awesome and will get overrun, not that they need any marketing. Their product speaks for itself! BEST IN THE WORLD in Rimini. Just do yourself a favor, move to Enmore and make this part of your weekly routine. Re: flavors. Only problem is choosing one or two, they are all phenomenal. But if you are reading this review sometime close to when I posted it- I had hazelnut Rocher and raspberry cheesecake. Can't recommend them highly enough! In addition: lovely environs and great service. Really nice staff. Thus wanting to give 10 stars! If my waistline and wallet would allow it, I'd come every day.

Velvety creamy goodness... only a bus ride away from Sydney CBD. Ever since I read the article on C&M being the world's best gelato makers, I have been wanting to come here. If I had known it's so close and convenient, I would have probably gone a lot sooner. Compared to the refreshing sorbet like flavors, I love me some creamy nutty gelato :) Aside from the Mandoria Affogato (obvious choice), I got the hazelnut and debated heavily between the chocolate and coffee flavor (coffee won). Love the consistency and flavor of the gelato. I am glad it's in Newtown. Otherwise I will be in deep trouble (from consuming too much gelato)!

Thanks to a YouTube review of this place, I am here from many thousands of miles away. Great flavors, great service, and great tasting. Next time I am in Sydney, I will definitely come back to Cow and Moon. They have really unique flavors and all of the ones I tried were really good.

Cow & the Moon only appeared on my radar after a friend of mine raved about this place near the Enmore Theatre and being the food adventurist I wanted to check it out. It's a small cafe nestled along Enmore Road. The cafe looks very inviting on the inside and grabs your attention straight away because when you look up the first thing your going to notice is the amount of award plaques this place has accumulated. Gold and first place labels are everywhere. This instantly got me excited and optimistic. The cafe does a range of normal cafe style treats and coffees which I'm sure are probably as amazing but the reason I was here was to try some ice cream so I managed to stay focused. The ice cream costs $5 for the small size $6.50 for Medium and $8 for the large size. The serving is either in a cone or cup. I decided to go cup so I could take my time and savour the flavours because sometimes with a cone it's a race against the clock. I chose medium which gave me the option of 3 flavours, I opted for pistachio, Mandorla Affogato and Delizia. The Delizia was a chocolate orange flavour and reminded me of Terry's Chocolate Orange. Delicious combination and this flavour perfected it like the famous chocolate egg. The Mandorla Affogato is a combination of caramelised roasted almonds and a single-origin coffee sauce with a Madagascan-vanilla-bean base. Once again we Yelpers hear those famous words 'Single Origin' and we know we are about to encounter something special. This flavour is the stores world winning flavour and an absolute must try. Gelato at its best. The flavour is so smooth and soft and it's a world winner so don't take my word for it. Take the Italian judges. The Pistachio for me was good but nothing exceptional have had more flavoursome pistachio ice creams in eastern restaurants. If I had only gotten two flavours I would have been disappointed but given the awesome flavouring of the other two all was forgiven. Delightful family run cafe that has no intention of franchising. They are happy to run out of this delightful cafe. Will certainly be back here to try out some other award winning flavours and maybe even some pastries which did look amazing.

We came here after going to a restaurant in another suburb. It wasn't that we didn't have dessert before we left it was just that, apparently, some of us have a larger dessert stomach. Parking is always interesting around these streets but you can usually score one later in the evening which we did. It was raining and cold, yet there was a queue. The tables were all taken and I wondered what the fuss was about this place. The gelato is very good and it is pretty cool to wait in the queue craning your neck to read the little labels to see what flavours are on offer whilst the rest of the party forage for a table and chairs. There is no "menu" to browse so if it hadn't been for the Yelp app and looking at all the reviews I wouldn't have had a clue as to where to start. The balsamic strawberry was a bit of disappointment as I got the strawberry in one spoonful and the next spoonful was balsamic. Not sure what happened there. The Mandorla Affogato was the pick followed by Lemon & Ginger (nice chucks of crystalised ginger). I didn't really need to have a second dessert but this was a worthwhile visit.

We visited at around 8:30pm on a Monday night. There was still a queue but not too long and just enough time to read reviews to find out which gelato to get, if you are reading this in line I will cut to the chase: Get the Mandorla Affogato (it's the winner), the rest is up to you. We also got the chocolate and stracciatella, which were great too. There are tables and seats but you need to be quick to grab one. It is also cash only.

Small serving with two flavors. Yum!

Believe the hype! Gelato here is awesome, and lots of unique variety. Service was excellent and friendly. There may be quite a line because it's so good and they tend to you individually. I'll be back to try some of the other flavors!

World champion gelato! Shut up and take my money!
    Elaine L.

*The rating is given on the world champion flavour only. In order to understand what the fuss is all about, it is important to acknowledge that each gelateria only submitted one flavour to be judged at the Gelato World Tour. Meaning, only one flavour at Cow and the Moon was dubbed the number one gelato in the world: Almond Affogato (also known as Mandorla Affogato). The verdict: I loved it! I usually don't like nuts in my gelato, but the caramalised crunchy bits scatted within the Mandora Affogato were roasted to perfection. Overall, it's sweet, but not dead sweet. On a side note, the other two flavours that I picked were hazelnut and peach, both were average and too creamy for my liking.

All the gelato here is amazing! I would know... They let me try SO MANY! The staff are soooo so super nice here. They are very welcoming and want you to try everything! I was all set on the banana and salted caramel and didn't even try it, because I'm a whore for salted caramel anything, thinking that was going to be the hero of my evening (yeah, I'm channeling Matt Preston here).... but NO! Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely fabulous, but the dark horse was the popcorn flavour! I'm getting popcorn flavour every time I go. I'm going to be in the area Friday night, I'm already planning my next pit stop, lol. And I'm getting three flavours! Popcorn again and two new ones! Dare I say it? Can it be better than sex? I hate it when people say stuff like that... I always think to myself "oh shut up, you obviously don't know how to... [censored]"... but um, this ice cream might be right up there with the deed... Well, almost, lol. As close as you can get!
