Quality/Quantity - Our guest's daughter LOVES gelato, and we wanted to get her one. They got two orders and, of course, really enjoyed it. 28 + flavors; see picture. Gelato sticks, cakes, etc. Atmosphere - Crazy busy, congrats. Small shop, and many options of gelato, see pictures. Actually, there were so many options that it took my wife and our guest's daughter quite some time to decide what they wanted. I personally like the gelato sticks as they were so much easier to eat. Service - Okay, they worked hard and barely managed the crowd. Price - I didn't even check; we are on vacation and spoiling our guest's daughter, so it doesn't matter. Right in the middle of the Barangaroo district. The line can be super long but goes quickly. Fior di Panna is "pure" gelato white cream with vanilla and the principal ingredient in the "Morena" which is a Rivareno Specialty with Amarena sour cherries. I picked this expecting a black cherry sort of gelato but buyer beware - they scoop out several cherries into your sugar cone then top it with plain Fior di Panna and then add one cherry on top. First, the cherries aren't really tart. Nor are they sweet. Actually they don't have much flavor at all. The texture resembles old stale fruit as well. The result is you're forced to eat the plain white yogurt first (too creamy for me) before you get to the lousy fruit at the bottom. Needless to say, I never got there and threw away the cone. The watermelon granita fared much better. Excellent flavor, well blended slushy. Strikingly better than the plain creaminess from before. That's all. read more

Ever since my experience with Gelato Messina, I have super low expectations for gelato in Australia. Gelato Messina is super popular and well loved here and I just don't get it, because it is not good at all. We had some time to kill before our lunch reservation, so we came here to eat dessert before our lunch. The other disappointment about covid is samples taste are no longer being offered, but I didn't want to ruin my appetite even more with two scoops, so I was forced to choose only one flavour and I was just going to go with Panna cotta and I asked the staff, which one would is more popular - the mango vs panna cotta? She's like well panna cotta is just vanilla. I mean I know it's vanilla, but there are good vanilla vs bad vanilla. Good vanilla where you can see the specs of vanilla bean within and taste the actual bean rather than some form of imitation vanilla. I was like whatever, let me just get mango since I felt she didn't get me. I want to say the texture of this gelato took me to a spiritual place - it is just so good. So creamy and delectable. Now I want to go back to try the other 5 flavours that I was torn between and I still want to get their panna cotta, even if it is just vanilla. read more

This is good gelato that has great flavours and the closest thing I have found in sydney which is more like a gelato you get everywhere around Italy. It's not too sweet and you can really taste the ingredient that constitutes the flavour. Loved the pistachio my go to in every new place I try. Visiting from California, I made my first transaction in Sydney at this shop, and it was very unpleasant. Basically, the two staff behind the gelato counter purposely ignored me for a few minutes as I was next in line (I asked where the line was, also asked them directly if I could order from them after being ignored for the first time) and they kept on serving people who came in after me. They would've continued ignoring me if I had not made a verbal complaint. Not sure whether randomly (or maybe purposely but for what reason I wonder) ignoring customers is the service attitude in Sydney. 1 star for the gelato. read more

While RivaReno isn't nearly as hip as Messina when it comes to specialty pop culture themed flavors or young and trendy servers, they execute in a way that can burn through a line in an atmosphere that's comfortable. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $7.00 AUD for two hefty scoops of gelato in a cone (Sweet Cream and Caramel) was a flat out bargain. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Consistency is in my mind just about everything when it comes to high quality gelato, and this was some of the best gelato consistency I've had outside of Italy. This was as much whipped cream as it was gelato, but it maintained a dense and impactful flavor profile that both floored me and didn't have me feeling miserable after devouring two large scoops. Decent gelato place in a handy location, but there are better places for the money. Located in the spanking new & trendy Barangaroo food/business district, RivaReno can be spotted by its queue stretching out the door. The selection is smaller compared to the likes of Messina (maybe a good thing), but the gelato itself is hidden under the lids. So while you can of course request a taste sample, the choices are made largely based on the wall menu and its descriptions. Personally I'd rather be able to see everything in the window, but it works. The gelato itself is absurdly creamy and rich, perhaps a contributing factor to its melt-faster-than-you-can-slurp characteristic. While it in itself is very nice, all the flavours end up being overpowered by the creaminess and ends up tasting about the same. I can imagine the classic vanilla tastes very nice though. The mint choc was a disappointment, with a very weak mint totally dominated and mushed by the overwhelming richness and the tiniest shards of dark chocolate. There was no fresh aftertaste at all, just mouth-coating cream. The "extra bitter dark chocolate" flavour was also disappointing, being neither extra bitter nor particularly strong in cacao, tasting (and looking) remarkably like a melting Streets choc ice cream. Pistachio and coffee flavours had positive comments from others, so maybe it was my poor choice of flavours? The portions are also tiny considering the price, and relative to its competition. The 2 scoop in a cup was served in the tiniest shallow cup which cost around 7 bucks. Perhaps it's for the better, given the richness of it. My last gripe with the place is that they add surcharge for ALL eftpos transactions. Does not say how much either. Granted it's probably spare change but any respectable place shouldn't surcharge IMO, especially after the new laws slamming excessive eftpos surcharges. Given the place's popularity, they can definitely afford not to. All in all, it's a decent gelato place but in this particular experience, does not live up to its hype. read more

Opened today! Tried my first scoop of the Caffe which is the coffe basically with chocolate chips. It was delicious! Rich flavour and freshly made. Salted Caramel and salted chocolate also pretty Delish! There's ice cream pops as well think magnum but better. Downside was the service. We came in again on the second day. My friend and I waited a long time to be served. Only 3 other people waiting. One lady at the back came out and signed to us that she's not serving us. It was really odd.
