If you're bored of the same old ice cream flavours, sick of the franchised gelato bars around Sydney or just want to try something new, than this store's the go. This small chain store known as passion flower is well known for their asian inspired ice cream flavours such as black sesame, green tea and red bean as well as their unique sundae and dessert options. Like most ice cream stores nowadays you can also ask for a taste test before deciding on which one you'd like. The other desserts here are also good, the double happiness sundae I had the other day was delicious, it included green tea ice cream topped with sweet red beans and gelatinous balls. A good dish to share between 2 or 3, although if you were really hungry I'm sure you could finish it off by yourself. If you're not really one for venturing out they do have your traditional favourites like strawberry, chocolate and vanilla ice cream as well as typical dessert options like crepes and waffles. The only thing that brought this place down was the service, I think they also liked to serve attitude here along with their ice cream.Still a great place though and really worth trying out if you've never been here before.

The Asian-inspired equivalent of delicious Italian gelato? What is Passionflower. Not your average ice-creamery, Passionflower offers an exotic twist on desserts, creatively integrating traditional Asian flavours into their inspired ice creams. Black sesame, sticky rice, Japanese green tea, durian, lychee rose, pandan, jackfruit and taro are just a few of these mouth-watering flavours used to create the amazing desserts that make this ice creamery so popular. My personal favourite, the appropriately named 'final fantasy' offers generous scoops of black sesame and coconut ice cream, dotted with refreshing servings of black jelly, and smothered in a shot of evaporated milk. And all you sceptics out there wondering what on earth is black jelly, black sesame and evaporated milk doing in a dessert? Well, I have no idea, but it tastes great and keeps the dissatisfaction of a Maccas soft serve at bay. So if you're looking for something different, or you're walking down George Street and happen to pass, go inside and take a chance. The only thing that will be biting is you.. into their ice-creamy deliciousness.

Really love its icecream! I've order one with red bean ice cream, taro ice cream and durian ice cream with coconut jelly. I love all but durian. That's not my type. Ha my boyfriend tried the greentea tiramisu! Great one!

Thia place is always packed and for good reason. It feels like your in Asia with people lingering & ordering and sharing lots of desserts, ice cream and drinks. I love the variety of exotic Asian flavoured ice creams. The crepes are also good, light with a slight crispness on the edge. Order an ice cream cake to go of you love it as much as I do or have an occasion to celebrate!

I've had this place bookmarked for years. Maybe I'll try their dessert tasting menu someday, but…read morejust the regular desserts I tried were nothing spectacular. And on a late weekday afternoon, they were sold out of the drinks that caught my eye. The desserts are fine, but some of the prices are so expensive that I don't feel like I'd miss out on much if I didn't get them. The average price seemed to be $28 for a dessert smaller than the size of my palm. While some of the flavors were more unique, based on the ones I tried, they weren't actually good combinations or just blended together so that you might as well be eating one flavor.

After eating dinner somewhere else, my friend and I stopped at Koi for dessert. We go there only 30 min before close, so there weren't a lot of desserts left. We tried two of them - a pandan cake and a mango dessert. They were both beautiful looking, but don't recall being blown away by the taste. And it was very expensive. I thought to myself that it was not what I hoped. But I'll give the benefit of the doubt that maybe at the end of the night all they have the less popular desserts left. Next time I'm there, I'll give it another shot.

I'm a foodie, NOT a shopper!…read more After walking around Sydney's CBD, we visited the famous Queen Victoria Building, a late 19th-century Romanesque Revival marketplace that is now a shopping mall filled with high-end boutiques and eateries. We crossed George Street to The Strand, where we were in search of the world-famous patisserie, Black Star Pastry. Although I don't use IG or FB, I heard about Black Star Pastry's Strawberry Watermelon Cake while reading an old New York Times article about this Australian patisserie, which declared this signature cake and most-requested cake as "The World's Most Instagrammed Cake." So, I made Black Star Pastry a destination during our pre-cruise stay in Sydney. We followed the directions posted on The Strand's directory to Black Star Pastry and ogled the artistically and attractively decorated cakes while zeroing in on the Strawberry Watermelon cake slices lined up next to the Raspberry Lychee and Mango Yuzu cake slices. Honestly, all of the cake slices looked lusciously delicious, but our taste buds were craving a refreshing slice of Strawberry Watermelon. We selected the cake slice, and the amicable countergirl neatly packaged it and asked if we needed eating utensils. Of course, we needed and wanted eating utensils as we dreamed about digging into the cake at their dining counter right away. My husband rushed me to finish taking photos, and he jabbed his fork into the tender yet juicy cake. Before I knew it, he unassembled the cake slice to reveal a fresh-cut slice of juicy, ripe, and sweet watermelon, light rose-scented cream, tender cake, and was topped with fragrant rose petals and fresh strawberries. He claimed it would be easier to eat because the cake slice was about 3" high and looked like it would've toppled when pierced from top to bottom. Yeah, it was HIS "thing" about eating this cake, I decided to take a bit of the top layer, then a small slice of the watermelon bottom layer together. It truly was refreshing, light, and not overly sugary. The lightness and flavors of this cake seemed like it might have been low-cal, but even if it wasn't, who cares when you're on vacation?!
