Going to a restaurant or in this case a dessert bar on Mothers Day without a booking is very risky behaviour indeed, but there we were, hopefully adding some sweet temptations to our celebrations that day. We were supposed to be out of town for the weekend, but as children seem to get sick at the most awkward times, we were home for Mothers Day without any real plans for making the day special for my wife. Then Koi popped into my head - they just opened in Ryde a few weeks ago and we really loved that guy on MasterChef . All the hype surrounding his first venture in Chippendale paid off for all that have been there with amazing creations just like the magic he showed us last season of the show. Could they possibly have some sweet treats for us????
Their Facebook page told us they would be open from 10 to 10 that day, but we only arrived at around one p.m- if we had to get something takeaway because of the crowds, we would do that.
So we walked up to the door and the place was empty except staff running around , and a sign on the door said they were not open until 3 p.m.... major disappointment !!! As we stood outside almost crying(sniffle sniffle)wondering what we were going to do next ,one of the staff decided that our sad faces needed some sugary goodness put into them and told us to come in. They told us the they were so busy the day before, and that their stock was wiped out and needed more time to create more goodies to sell- and the head chef that day was still trying to complete her special Mothers Day treat. We looked at the glass case and there were at least 7 amazing looking varieties there- we weren't picky, we have some of those! A very nice young lady came out to help us and assured us we could have coffee, treats and hot chocolates for the kiddies. So we ordered up- oh my gosh!! Every bite we had was incredible ! We shared three desserts between four people and we were very very satisfied - the coffee was nice also.
Every treat is a work of art here, so it might be a little pricey for some but as we cook and bake in our house we appreciate the quality and skill put into everything they do . We spent just under 50 bucks and it was so worth it.
I have to add that as we ate our goodies, about 30 people filled the place up around us, eager to get their fill of their incredible treats. Best of luck to them, they deserve great success! read more
