The House of Chocolates has been here as long as I remember - and I grew up in the Eastern Suburbs. It still has an old-fashioned sweet shop kind of feel, I always expect some jolly fat man to come out from the back proffering a tray of freshly made chocolate treats*. (*Note: This has never happened.) We used to come here sometimes after a day at the beach for little hand-made chocolate penguins for a treat, so I have happy memories associated with this place. Add some choc endorphins to that and this is my Happy Place. The chocolates are hand-crafted by Sydney chocolatiers but they also have a small number of imported sweets. It may not have that professional chocolatier feel (the business card I received was printer from a household printer, on ordinary paper), but in its place it has a very homely feeling. In the window are boxes filled with various types of chocolates, and on the inside are some gift boxes, so that you may give to loved ones. The store isn't huge, theres more to see in the window than there is inside, but the man inside is very friendly and helpful, and the whole place feels like Grandma's place when she's baking. Makes you feel at home, ya know? I reckon there's a bit more life and love in a box of Richards chocolates than the cold definition of a manufactured one.
