Having come across this chocolate after my friend spoilt me with a bar of their luxury chocolate blocks as a gift I have fallen in love.
Koko Black is a Melbourne chain that I welcome with huge open arms. The Cafe is located on Pitt Street just outside the entrance to the Strand.
Upon walking in your great with a counter of hand made chocolates and a wall of more chocolate flavours. It's very much a classy chocolate experience but once you taste you will be head over heals.
The Shop actually has a cafe downstairs with seating for approximately 25-30 people. They have limited seating upstairs also. The cafe does takeaway but I believe this place you need to experience while seated.
The cafe has all the usual options you would expect and hot chocolate in a range of flavours including Belgian Classic, light , mocha, chilli, cinnamon and affagato .
This is my second time here. First time I went I was humming and hawing between chilli and cinnamon. Luckily the gentleman behind the counter offered to make me a combination of both flavours. That was genius. The chocolate tastes like liquid gold (well how I imagine that would taste). It's so rich and creamy and the cinnamon just hits the spot with the bite of chilli on the last gulp.
The second time I came I had the affagato which contain luxurious vanilla ice cream and a small container of Belgian hot chocolate to pour over it. Never experienced this concoction before. It was interesting but I must say I prefer ice cream or hot chocolate as separate entities. The ice cream is amazing though. The cafe does offer ice cream treats too which would definitely be worth a look.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable here. On the day we were here they were handing out samples of their raspberry ganache hand made chocolates which were beautiful as well. This is a beautiful cafe and somewhere to bring a chocolate lover or someone you want to impress. read more
