I brought my bmw s1000RR for its oil change and service and a recall, they said it would be 45 min to an hour waited from 8:45 till 11 to leave. rode the bike around for a few hours after the service and noticed oil leaking on the floor. I check to make sure the drain plug was tight and it wasn't so I poked my head under there and noticed the plug was loose and stripped on the head so I called brought the bike back on my next available day off and asked they replaced the drain plug and redo the service. instead they replaced the drain plug and reused the oil that I didn't want back in the bike. extremely disappointed with my first visit at this dealership would not recommend to anyone better off driving to greater Boston bmw. will never bring my bike back here again. I had been going here for years because there aren't many BMW motorcycle dealerships around. The service was decent although I had issues with how they worked on my bike, and I had to go back too many times for repairs for what should have been diagnosed the first time. The reason for 2 stars and not 3 or maybe even 4 is the general manager. Example: I had my bike painted there (and gave them the factory spec colors) and they painted it the wrong color after keeping my bike for almost 8 months! His response was "live with it as you're inconveniencing my other customers, and if you don't like it I'll do it again at my cost..." I had to engage their corp. ownership to get an appropriate resolution. So...for service they are capable of good work if you stay on top of what your bikes there for, just be very wary of how they treat you (specifically the GM). Evidently spending decent money over the years doesn't mean much to him in terms of customer loyalty. They don't want me as a customer anymore and I don't think they deserve my business anyway. Dishonest Service, Avoid Jordan in service dept. Visit 1/2: Bring bike in for diagnostic and am received by Jordan. Diagnosis given to me via phone call and I request quote before proceeding with repair. Next call I receive and my bike is done. They claimed to save me a bunch of money salvaging a harness for a starter relay, when they can easily be found online for under $50. They took their sweet time and charged me for the repair without authorization. Clutch switch also becomes misaligned by their service. Visit 2/2: Bring in for routine maintenance. And request to diagnose clutch switch, as I had just repaired it prior to visit 1/2. I am told they will warranty their work if that is the case. Extra work is done in routine maintenance without authorization and they charge me for a full hour to realign the clutch (that they broke in the first place). So not only do they bait and switch me with the warranty promise, but they charge me $100 dollars for a 15 minute job. When I confront them about it I get eye rolling and sass from Jordan. These guys are moneygrubbers that are too accustomed to ignorant, wealthy clientele of the seacoast area. read more

I had seen a nice bike listed by this company on ebay. As they are not too far away I decided to call them to get more information and decided to go forward and buy the bike. I put $500 down to reserve the bike and received a bill of sale. When I went down to the store two days later, I found out that someone else had used the 'buy-it-now' feature on ebay the day before and that therefore they had to sell it to them, because they "have a contract with ebay". This is total BS; firstly, *I* have no contract with ebay, they sold the bike to me first (I had already paid the first $500 and received a bill of sale), and legally they are obligated to sell the bike to me. There was no way for me to change their minds, however: their (unwritten) policy stated that they have to sell to ebay first (again, the law says they have to sell to the first buyer). After a while they made me a good offer on a newer (and more expensive) bike. The offer seemed good, so eventually I went ahead (my own mistake). They would deliver the bike to my place, but on the day of delivery they had some mechanical problem with their elevator and couldn't get the bike out of their storage below the store. It took four days before they were able to get me my (now fully paid bike). When I went to register the bike, the person at the RMV found a problem with the paperwork and couldn't register the bike at all. After putting in a good amount of effort and an extra ride to RMV I got it registered. Although they said the bike was inspected and everything was in great order, I found the bike had trouble starting when cold. This left me in the cold pump starting the almost 900 lb bike. Running and pushing a 900lb 'Gorilla' to get it started is no fun, especially not the cold winter. (had to do that a few times). The problem was simple, it had an old and worn battery that needed to be replaced. I ended spending over $200 to get the battery replaced on a bike I had bought a week earlier and was supposedly checked. I would never do business with this company again. read more

I had trouble getting the Sena 20, iphone and Navigator vi to work. Jordan had it working in a few minutes; I was impressed. Brought my GSA in for new spark plugs and throttle body sync. Since the bike was due for an oil change, I decided to let MAX do it while they had the bike there. In the past, I've always changed my own oil and filter and I made a mistake letting them do it. The cost for just the oil change was $156! Absolutely outrageous since all they had to do is let the oil drain while changing the spark plugs. In all I spent $460. The bike was in their shop for just over 2 hours and I had 3 hours of labor charged to me. Not sure how that math works. There are several independent shops that can do routine service on BMW and I will not use MAX again unless I'm desperate. As far as the work they did, I think all was done properly and if you are buying a new BMW, they have a great inventory. read more

Short Version: After years of loving this place, 2012 has been so bad I can't imagine going back. AMENDMENT: Max made the trip from Portsmouth to Blue Hill, Maine to get the bike and make things right. I've been told the leaks are all set now, and they got it back in just a couple of days. I've bumped the review up another star, and while it was a bummer missing all this riding time I do plan on sticking with them. All The Details: I've been a Max BWM customer since I believe 2007. I live in the Boston area so I started off trying to get my bike serviced locally before finally sending it to this place up in New Hampshire I kept hearing so many good things about. I've sent my bike there for routine scheduled work as well as sudden breakdowns and everyone was always at the top of their game up until this year. This year when I had major issues with the front brakes, I sent the bike up to Max to have the front hydraulics repaired as well as routine pad and rotor replacement done on the rear brakes which had no problems. It was over six weeks, June into August, from when I sent the bike up to when it made it back. This was uncharacteristically long given my past experience, but the bike went up in late June and there were some parts issues which were out of their hands. In addition, they recommended third party parts which did save me money over the stock BMW options. Luckily enough I was out of town for a lot of the wait too, so even six weeks and over a thousand bucks later I was still telling everyone 'no, no these guys are great' when they asked how I put up with my bike being gone for so long. After only getting a few chances to ride in August due to weather I noticed that the rear brakes were now leaking a significant amount of fluid when the bike sat still for even a few hours. I tried to find a leak myself, and the guys helped over the phone offering suggestions for something I could check, but nothing on my end stopped the leak and I ended up having to send the bike back again. They were able to come pick it up again on September 22nd while it sat there leaking in the meantime. So at this point I had missed almost all of the season, mostly waiting for Max to either pick up my bike, order parts for my bike, or actually get my bike on a stand to have the work done. I'd paid over a grand to send in a bike with working back brakes and faulty front brakes, and received a bike with working front brakes and faulty back brakes. I'll cover the rest in bullet points: *After one week of hearing nothing back, I called the service department asking what the status of the work was and left a message when no one answered. This was on a Friday. *The following Thursday, still having heard nothing, I left another message. (In my experience it's very rare to not hear from the shop within 24 hours) *The next day, still having heard nothing. I called again. I got a little more determined this time and eventually had to leave two messages and call both the parts and sales departments asking to speak to anyone who could tell me anything. I finally got a voicemail back which told me my bike 'should be going on the stand early next week'. *The next morning (Saturday) I get a call from service, and I'm assured that they "can't imagine how they'd missed it the first time" but it's actually a leaking drive seal which is going to cost me another $450. I tried to politely explain that the leak wouldn't have been noticeable before the first round of work because it wasn't there. It's a very visible leak, the back brakes were fine, and after the shop opened them up is when stuff started spilling out. The service department manager just repeated exactly what he'd said the first time like I'd said nothing. At this point I felt completely ignored and taken advantage of. I'd already been charged, my calls hadn't been returned over a period of weeks, and I was being treated like a complete moron when I tried to explain what was basic and obvious. I understand people can't just throw repairs around for free, and that the summer is peak riding season. But even assuming that the new problem was my complete, very coincidental, bad luck, that still leaves a shop that ignores you when you call, takes your money, takes your bike again, and then starts ignoring you even more. If you call enough, they'll suddenly have time to quote you immediately. I know one other person who's had similar experiences with this shop. When they're good, they're great. When they slip, the start giving you the dodge, making up excuses, and still expect you to pony up. I did for a long time. Part of me still wants to because I just want my bike fixed, but the part of my brain that learns lessons won't let me go back. All it sees is a machine that eats money, gives back broken bikes, and avoids its own customers. read more

I have an older BWM K75S which runs great most of the time, but when she needs work it can be a headache. I had taken her to three other BMW specialists who had a tough time getting her right, but when I brought her to Max BMW she came back in great shape. The folks here are very, very nice and accommodating and will even pick up your motorcycle and drop it off for no charge (provided you have a certain amount of work done) -- and I live in Boston, 60 miles away. I ordered some parts online for a 2014 R1200GSA. These dudes were the only dealer with microfische parts blow-ups where customers can order parts directly by clicking the part on the diagram. Super-useful. They were cheaper than the local dealer (about the same with shipping) but I got a surprise bag of M&Ms with my order. Totally made me smile and I ate the M&Ms right away. Own a 2005 BMW that had brake issues. Called the local dealer in NH and spoke to Walter "Woody" who spent 20 minutes on the phone with me suggesting what I might try to fix it myself. I called Woody back to let him know the problem still exist. He told me I should come in for the repair or they would pick up the bik even though I was 150 miles away. He ordered the parts that were needed so they would be available when the bike arrived. A week later I am back on the road. Everything that was promised was done and since the parts were very expensive they gave me a discount. Bottom line this is a dealership that is professional, fair and puts the customer first. I was on my way to pick up the check when I got a call from Jim in sales....Max the owner would not approve the purchase. Apparently his brother approved the purchase, and Max over ruled him....Thanks for working together for me, boys. They had my bike for 2 weeks, while I was waiting for the title. Since I believed that we had a verbal / email agreement, I went ahead and purchased another bike. I think that the lack of consideration I was shown by the response I received from Max himself says it all. "I'm not able to approve that price because of the current incentives that were a surprise to all of us. The value of used bikes have drastically shifted". His lack of an apology says a lot about how much he values your business. read more

We bought my wife's f800 there, and I'm regretting it. The brakes have a terrible grinding feel, which Max's said is normal. Well, I guess the f800 has terrible brakes as standard then, because I've been riding since 1978 and this isn't normal. I've bought some better pads that I'll put in myself. My wife went in to buy a riding suit and spent time picking things out. They were going to call her when the suit came in -- over a year ago now. I bought her an Aerostich in the meantime. We took it in for a service a week ago before leaving on a trip this coming Monday. We went in to pick up the bike a week later and it's not been touched. They were sorry, but what else would they be? They offered us 10% off on the next tune, but we live in Boston. I've ridden 120 miles in heavy I-95 traffic for a 10% discount? I don't need a discount, I need that wasted time from my life back. I would have settled for reliable service. So, part of getting the f800 for her was the thought that someday I might want to step up to the "ultimate driving machine" for myself someday, but after experiment this I think not. Between the hugely bubbled paint on the radiator, the normal grindy brakes, and the week long non-service, I think I'll stick with Triumph and Performance Cycles in Shrewsbury. I'm pretty far beyond underwhelmed with the whole BMW experience so far, as the bike isn't all that much for what you pay, I expected it to be the attention to detail of the bike and the quality of service, but neither are there for the money. I think we'll try Wagner's as they aren't nearly as far. This isn't a one time thing, this is our whole year and a half experience there. read more
