This place does not pop up in your search results in google. My husband and I got very lucky to stumble on it on our way to the airport. Glad we came in. Very cute, quaint, little restaurant. During a ski trip over the holidays we discovered Mawa's and I'm so happy we did! The food and service were exceptional. It was one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Mawa checked on us herself and there were only a few other people in the restaurant. It felt as though we had our own personal chef! The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because I've only eaten here once & maybe this was a unique incident. I don't believe in purposely trying to affect the star rating of any restaurant, but I do believe in honesty and speaking only about my experience so this hopefully doesn't happen to anyone else. Got food poisoning from the short rib chilaquiles I ordered for brunch. As soon as I tasted the short rib, it tasted off and smelled very sour/spoiled like when meat spoils in your fridge. Figured I'd eat around it as best I could since I was starving. I've been a chef for 23 years. I know what spoiled meat tastes like & smells like. It smelled and tasted foul (sour). I also know food poisoning kicks in within 6-8 hours after you eat....which is exactly the time frame I got sick. Ate nothing else that day. This could have been avoided had better quality control systems been in place before using a spoiled product & then serving it to customers. read more

Eaten here twice already because I was visiting a friend who works in the Aspen Airport Business Center. Easily the best fresh breakfast/lunch food option in the vicinity. Awesome veggie chili, turkey club, cauliflower wrap, and breakfast burritos! Great presentation and attention to detail. Gluten-free bread options available. Charming south-facing dining area with nice-sized modern tables which fit up to 6 people. *Great* coffee, too. The location is a bit difficult to find but once we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly staff in the kitchen. I enjoyed a house salad and tomato bisque soup for lunch. Be careful pre-booking a dinner at this restaurant. They will not refund you for any reason. We on 12/11 we booked a New Year's dinner for 6 people at $350 each, and I understood it was non-refundable, but after that, the Omicron Covid surge started and my mother-in-law, who is immunocompromised, could not travel. So we called them more than a week before the 31st and they said they would allow us to cancel her reservation and refund us. On the 31st there was a snowstorm in Aspen and our flight was cancelled so we didn't make it. I called them around noon and told them to cancel the remaining 5, and they said they would see if they could refund us part of the fee but warned me that there would be a fee. I was surprised to see that they refunded nothing and they charged us for the original 6, the full $2193. I called them and they said it was completely nonrefundable and refused to budge even after I reminded them of the one we cancelled before, and I told them I didn't think it was fair. I understand it was not their fault but it wasn't mine either. I don't think they should have the customer shoulder all the pain of unforeseen circumstances. I paid more than $2000 for nothing, and they could have at least refunded the one we cancelled earlier that they could have sold the seat to someone else. I will never again book a dinner there at Mawa's Kitchen. I recommend you don't either. read more

Just had brunch. Their quinoa pancakes are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. They are delicately accompanied by fresh berries and maple syrup. Just delicious!!! My husband had, what appeared to be, a really good sandwich with fresh tuna inside. The lady at the next table was enjoying a vegetable eggs Benedict with a nice bundle of fresh salad that came with it. She said it was GREAT. After we finished our meal Mawa came outside to chat with us. She's super nice to talk to and carries a "real" genuine presence. I could tell she is enjoying herself. We spend a ton of time in Aspen and this little place is one of it's greatest gems tucked away in the AABC. read more

Came in after a long day of hiking. Our waitress was rude & only came by the table twice. Never introduced herself just came by asking what we wanted to drink. Waitress was outside on her phone texting, I'm which i had to go out there & ask for the check. Food was not good at all. I got the eggs Benedict which is ham lunch meat on top of hashbrowns with eggs. My husband got the egg breakfast which the eggs were overcooked, bacon was hard & dry & potatoes were bland. Out of the way location. The Saturday brunch was good. The mimosas were expensive but good. The stuffed French toast was awesome. Our server, Danielle, was attentive and upbeat. The reason for the lower rating was the kitchen service was very slow. Also, don't go with a service dog and need to use the restroom. They won't allow you to be accompanied by your service animal because of their "open kitchen." read more

Be weary about making a reservation here. I love the idea of supporting a local female chef but they will charge you an outrageous amount if you cancel. Mawas kitchen charged me $420 for my cancellation because they said it was within their 24hr period. I left two voicemails, 3 emails and even confirmed w someone by phone yet the manager who wouldn't take my calls went forward with a $420 charge. I tried take-out breakfast from Mawa's on June 23rd after hearing my brother's family RAVE about the place. They weren't wrong. The salmon benedict atop two very crispy latkes instead of English muffins was amazing, and was accompanied by a very refreshing and impressive (not to mention guilt canceling!) salad. It will be a challenge to order anything other than the salmon benedict going forward, but the next time I get the chance, I will try hard! Can't wait to try Mawa's other offerings. read more

We had an amazing dinner. We met Diana at the farmer's market also the day we went to dinner. There are not that many meals in which you can truly explore unique flavors, spices, and presentations. Everything on the menu looked fantastic. We had the creamy hummus, chipotle shrimp and bison African pastel starters (all fantastic, and the bison just melted in our mouths). Little gem salad, wow! Crispy bacon is a great touch. Then the gumbo (incredible pieces with the forbidden rice) and red snapper (latter with just an amazing presentation and blend of color and flavors). Crepes for dessert (highly recommend, her specialty and Mawa has a crepe shop in Snowmass). Also sitting on the patio this time of year was so relaxing. Service was very attentive and helpful on menu items and wine selections. It is a short drive outside of Aspen, but I highly recommend you try it. We will defenilty go back because there are many dishes we want to try next, tough choices! read more

Were visiting from Chicago and usually like to try different restaurants every day while we are in Aspen, but we had to go to Mawa's kitchen for breakfast more than once because it was so special. The Mawa's salmon benedict was scrumptious, and the banana blueberry pancakes with maple syrup was worth blowing the diet for a day. The next day we visited again and had the egg white vegetarian omelette to make up for the dietary "sins" of the previous morning -- better diet choice but still without sacrifice -- surprisingly flavorful. WOW! Fantastic experience all around --the waitstaff was extremely helpful, as we were a party of 6 with many different dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten free, etc). We ordered a world-class meal, but my personal favorite was the rotisserie chicken. Mawa's clearly uses the best ingredients in Aspen. Also a highlight -- the restaurant is locally owned by Mawa, making it one of the few women-owned and diverse-owned businesses in Aspen. Please come and support! I'm sitting in the restaurant right now writing this yelp review because this food is so amazing I couldn't wait to post about it. Upon arrival, a chef greeted me at the door and we walked through the kitchen to get to the dining area. That was the first sign we were going to have an amazing experience. The servers were amazing and attentive. Let's get to the food. The sweet potato pancake. Wow. I can't even describe how amazing this pancake is with all of its flavors. I took my mother with me, an excellent chef herself, and we had an amazing meal; from our Mediterranean sampler dish to our Chocolate Torte. Was really excited to try but my experience with both service and food left a lot to be desired. None of the waitstaff approached me to take my order in outside patio (hostess knew I was there) so I ended having to go order inside. Foodwise - the Bah Min sandwich was a salt explosion and was drenched in so much sauce the bread got soggy and I ended up having to use a ton of napkins to stop it from dripping down my arm. I visited Carbondale recently and on the way back home we stopped in Aspen for some brunch. This place is cute, we got to sit outside in the shade of a pine tree. We ordered an appetizer which was delicious. I forget the name but it was a variation of guacamole. For the main I ordered a Bahn Mi with curried chicken and mint cucumber lemonade. Everything was phenomenal, it made me realize how I can improve and vary my own cooking. You know the menu and chef are bomb when they inspire you to cook as well. They were busy but everything came to us in a timely manner. Very fair prices, especially in Aspen where things can get so pricey. I wish I took some pictures but I couldn't wait to eat everything!
