My "check tire pressure" light came on while on route to a doctors appointment. Mavis (Chris) who was very pleasant told me to come in as a "walk-in". When I arrived, one other customer was in the waiting area. SHOP: this location is in need of a rehab and deep cleaning, but Chris was polite and professional. WAIT TIME: there was approximately 1/2 hour wait to get the car in the bay which was NOT VISIBLE through the waiting room window leaving potential questions about completeness of service by some previous reviewers who mentioned sub-par work. MANAGEMENT TIP: TRANSPARENCY- Show the work being done. I've used Mavis on and off for about 25 years for many vehicles. Most locations are extremely clean and have an excellent process. This location did not really seem to have a set procedure. For example, I realized after leaving that they did not give me a copy of the work sheet. THE GOOD: my issue with the tire was apparently a minor one because my keys were returned to me and there was no charge. Being relieved, I bought lunch for everyone and dropped it off on my way out. What I recommend this location again? Despite the good service that Chris gave me, the shop was in a sketchy area of town and their process seemed a little bit lax so I don't think I would return to the shop again. read more

My son is a student at Marist and he called us this morning to let us know he had a nail in his tire and was losing air. He took his jeep to Mavis and they removed the nail and plugged his tire. They did not charge him anything! We live in PA..about three hours away. So thankful for the Mavis Team and their kindness!! read more

Took my car here today simply for two new tires, rotate, and alignment. Picked it up and 5 minutes down the road i smell burning and smoke coming from under the hood. Pull over and there is oil EVERYWHERE and no oil cap. I notice the cap sitting on the radiator. Why was my oil cap removed or even tampered with when all i asked for was two new tires? I called them back immediately and the rude sales associate argued with me that "why would they touch the oil cap, calls me back to say he looked at video footage and the hood was never opened" . BS! I have not even opened my hood in over a month and have been driving it daily. The least they could have done was admit it , offer to clean up the mess and replace the oil. I now have a mechanic bill for clean up and oil, hours of my day wasted, and a massive oil spot in my driveway. My car could have been destroyed, caught fire, and someone could have been hurt. very dissatisfied and disappointed. Recently came in for 4 tires that I ordered online and had shipped to the shop for installation. I was able to make an earlier appointment for installation over the phone without any issues. I did check on my order numerous times to inquire about delivery etc.. when I walked in I was immediately greeted by 2 staff members. I'm assuming management that came out from the Bay area. They offered an alignment that wasn't on the original order and I requested an inspection last minute as well. I was accommodated without any issues! I dropped off around 1 pm during my lunch hr and came back after work 4 p.m. My car was ready to go! The staff was great even on a hot day inside and outside the shop. Ordered tires from Goodyear to be installed at this Mavis. Had a confirmation from Goodyear for an appointment. Show up for my appointment. The man at the desk said the tires were never delivered. I asked why Goodyear would confirm the appointment without knowing the tires were delivered. The man at the desk said it's a Goodyear problem take it up with them, and then simply dismissed me. From the parking lot I called Goodyear. They assured me they were delivered 2 days ago and sent me a copy of the FedEx signature sheet. After a search. Low and behold, they find the tires. Then they tell me it will be 45 minutes till we can get to you. FML Never coming to this location ever again. read more

Brought my Silverado in to get a tire plugged that I had previously removed and drove in with the spare installed. I asked if they would install the original on the truck and they said sure. I got fast service. The tire was repaired, balanced and installed in less than 30 minutes. When I asked about a military discount, they took $10 off the price. Very satisfied. The worst service ever. I was dealing with a manager the whole time since I walked in and still had a horrible experience. I had two new tires installed for my daily commuter car on Friday morning. I arrive about 9am place looks empty I ask is it going to be long it looks empty he tells me no mouthing the wheels balance and a wheel alignment you should be about 1 hour and a half 3 hour later he is done then I ask if he can discount the price he said no I said ok. I went in to get 2 new tires and have them balanced and mounted,the so called manager Harold,said they check out my car telling me I needed shocks..He told me he had my paperwork,But never gave it to me! Come to find out I called my friend who has worked on my car at the Mavis in Rhinebeck,he had already replaced my shocks six months before!! When your breaks have been replaced by mavis and the go with in 12000 miles there is a problem. Took my truck back and the manager asked if I went down a lot of hills...... I knew it was time to leave.... Took my truck to my ford dealership and had the brakes replaced. I was told that when mavis replaced the brakes the calibers were not cleaned which caused the caliber on one side to freeze. The dealer cleaned both front calibers and replaced the brakes and rotors all was good for 39,000 miles. Got $200 back from mavis which was a 1/4 of the price. read more

My car broke down on the way into Poughkeepsie last weekend, and these guys were the first place I landed... not so good. Admittedly, I walked in off the street about 45 minutes before closing time on Saturday. But still... the guy at the desk wrote my name on a piece of paper, took my key, and walked off leaving me standing at the counter. 30 minutes later, he wanders back out and tells me he will call me. Seriously? You couldn't tell me this 30 minutes ago? I ask them if there will be a diagnostic fee or anything like that for looking at the car. "Nope, we'll just call you with an estimate." Ok. After getting their estimate (a whopping $700 for a brake job) I told them I'd be towing the car to another garage. "Sure, there will be a $40 diagnostic fee." I tell them there won't be since I specifically asked that when I dropped off the car and they said no. All in all, a somewhat sketchy experience. Sunday morning I came in for a four tire replacement. I chose not to get an alignment as I didn't have the time. On top of that, after 9 alignments I had to get Sears to fix it. Anyway, the van was taken in 1 hour 45 minutes ago and still has two tires done and two to go. I worked in automotive before and it took 10 - 12 minutes per tire (mounted, balanced, new stems and leak checked). Mavis needs to buckle down and produce. If you can't produce fast enough, the business will crumble. The only reason I came here is they were able to get the tires I want fast. I should have purchased the tires and had another shop install them. The only reason for the stars are for getting the tires I want. I waited to post until my van came out. The total time in the shop was 2 hours 8 minutes. Then the tires weren't properly inflated. read more

Mavis advertises that they will beat any bodies prices on tires/mounting. I went in with prices from another place that was a bit cheaper. The guy at the front desk kept telling me how it doesn't count because the other place does not include this or that. For everything he told me it didn't include I showed him how it was included. Missing lug nut on each front wheel after leaving mavis and heading to a family function in another state. No one advised me they weren't there and let me leave with my family for a 3 hour trip. Two days later my husband is looking at the wheels and saw one shinier than the other and noticed the lug nut was not even there. When I called they tried to make light of the situation and now that I'm here they are asking me if I came back within 25 miles. UPDATE: After taking my car to another shop to have them put on the new tires I needed and do the inspection, I found out that pretty much the only things Mavis actually did to my car were done incorrectly. Most importantly, I was advised that they actually OVERFILLED my oil tank. I can only hope that no damage was done because of their negligence. In addition to that, they stripped one of the lug studs on a rear tire so badly that it had to be replaced. I took it with me as a souvenir. I have not yet worked up the energy to call to demand a refund, but I will be doing that shortly. read more

This is by far the best place to take your car in the Poughkeepsie area. Been here for oil changes, tires, breaks, roters, inspection and service lights. It's more than just bringing your car to get fixed they care and want it done right. They dont try to get you for everything and I've never left wondering what they did. Also talked Jonathan & determined 4 tires best/affordable as well as pricing oil change/Inspection. Offered best price over competitors. Gave me walk out the door price which can be hard to get. Office warm, spacious and clean. Greeted by Jonathan who showed me tires, did work order. He arranged ride home for me, which we discussed prior. Great service as I didn't have to sit in shop. Driver polite, professional. Received call from Jonathan. I gave wrong tire size when phone shopping. Needed size up. Would cost more. He already found comparable tires for same price. Asked for few minutes look up tires, call back. Now, here is where I would have taken off A LOT of Stars, however was not fault of local Shop. I could not call them back. Phone lines not working. After hour trying, getting quite frustrated, still no phones. Tried calling every shop in the area, all the way to Corporate Office. ALL PHONE LINES DOWN. STILL DOWN WHEN I ARRIVED AROUND CLOSING TIME (8:30PM) Can't believe Nationwide Company like Mavis could allow phone lines down entire day. No explanation or even FB post stating a problem. Can't imagine how much business was lost. Received few calls on cell unknown caller. Initially thought spammer until saw voicemail. Was Jonathan on his personal cell phone. They noticed no incoming calls. Realized no phones. Obviously weren't notified by Corporate or Regional Managers via their cell phones as they had no idea what was up or estimated restoration time. They apologized for inconvenience. I authorized tire purchase. However, this put service back about 3 hours. Work completed sent same driver to pick me up which was great. Price EXACTLY as agreed upon. Mechanic worked on car told me what he did and condition of car which I appreciated. Also professional and nice. Tires looked good, rode good. Very happy with them! Also, great to have car aligned properly. Noticed immediate positive improvement when driving. Last time needed 2 back tires from local garage sold 2 different types tires. Not told this, never imagined this could even happen. "Legal" however I should have been told, I wouldn't have purchased. In my opinion, been taken advantage in auto field previously. Made me wary of where l take car. Made right choice taking to Mavis Dutchess Turnpike. I read reviews prior. Almost turned off, but glad made call. Awful, inept, clowns. Stay far, far away. I needed 4 snow tires for a sonata. Looked up the tires offered at Mavis, found the right tires, website said they were in stock, and I booked an appointment a week in advance. Appointment day comes, I drop the car off. I expected to wait the full 3 hours that they refer to on the website when I made the appointment. Dropped off at 3, came back at 6 (closing time). The "service rep" comes out and tells me they don't have the tires that I ordered. He suggests a bottom of the barrel substitute. I refused. I asked how the tires I reserved a week ago were not there, and they took the car in anyway. He stammered and made some excuse about them no longer being available, someone cancelled them but did not reorder, blahblahblah. When we said that we were very unhappy, he literally said "Why?"!!!! 3 hours waiting, no tires, no apology. Clearly this moron does not have a clue about customer service. I recommend STS in Poughkeepsie. I had a good experience when I picked up a screw in my rear tire. It was Sunday afternoon, 1.5 hours from home and they were open! The receptionist was pleasant and the mechanic was effective. The price was reasonable, less than $17. The only thing I would like to have is proactive communication directly from the mechanic. I had a few questions, didn't get to ask all because I spared the receptionist a few more trips into the shop. read more

We drove to Poughkeepsie, NY to buy a 2010 Chevy Traverse off of Craigslist, but unfortunately the seller didn't warn us in advance that the AC didn't work on a 95 degree day. Since we had to drive home 3 hours away, we needed this fixed asap. We called around to different places after 5pm, and only Mavis could accommodate us. Within 40 minutes of arrival, Mavis tested the AC for leaks, found none, and refilled our Freon and the AC was working perfectly. While we waited our 18 month son enjoyed BabyFirstTV, ran around the air conditioned showroom, ate crackers and drank milk. The service was friendly, quick and as good as it gets. Everything was done as expected, and as I needed to change 2 of my tires (I actually knew I'll have to do so) I got a very reasonable quote from them, and did it right on the spot. Went to mavis to have suspension work done on my car. Didn't have the money to pay for the $1400 worth of work so i opted to use flexshopper. Flexshopper granted me the funds to pay for the word needed on my car so i was able to go on a payment plan with flexshopper. Mavis was paid in full through the flexshopper company. Here's the thing, if you spend $1400 on your car wouldn't you expect it to be returned back to you fixed? Yeah so did I. Needless to say they left my car in the parking lot unlocked with the keys in the ignition and failed to call me to make me aware. Not only was I already on the way to pick up my car but to get there and find my car locked is absurd. Had to call the police to help me get into my car, proceeded to drive away only to have even more suspension noise coming from my car than there was when I brought it there. So I have a bill of $1400 I owe flex shopper and make weekly payment that I can't stop because mavis's corporate office refuses to pick up the phone from flexshopper so they can figure things out. Made numerous attempts to show up there and smoke plenty of times with the mAnager Joe who toLd me to bring my car back in and he will have it looked at. I opteD to do so only to be told the parts put into my car were defected and they would replace it which they did but STILL (after the second time) no change whatsoever. And then was told I was being charged for labor and had to pay for the defected parts? Yeah ok! Steer clear of this place. Better yet steer clear of all mavis locations. I used to tell all my co-workers to go to STS since they are located across Route 44 from our office. I have had tires, brakes, oil changes and inspections done there in the past. They were reasonably priced and NEVER tried to "up-sell" me on things I didn't ask for, like some of the other auto shops in the area. Then Mavis took over. I needed a NYS inspection and an oil change done so I dropped my car off. The staff appeared to be the same so I expected my experience to be the same as well. They called me to say that I had a brake light out and it would be $10 to fix it so they could finish my inspection. Of course I agreed. Then they said that my air filter was dirty and they recommended installing a new one for $20 "to improve my gas mileage". The old place I used to go always tried to tell me the same thing and I always said "No" but I trusted STS so I decided to say "Yes" to them and get it done. Then they told me "Based on the mileage we recommend having your brake fluid flushed" for $79 "What could happen if I don't do that?' I asked, having never even heard of this service before. "Moisture could have gotten into your system causing the brake lines to deteriorate and they could collapse" they told me. I have been teaching my 16-year old son to drive in this car and all I could think of was him driving and suddenly having no brakes. So I agreed, even though that little voice inside told me I was getting rooked. When I informed my husband about all this he got pretty upset because he knew they were just up-selling my on stuff I didn't need but it was too late at that point. So I paid close to $200 by the time all was said & done. That was on Monday. Friday afternoon my son was driving us home after school when he got pulled over...for having a brake light out-the same one that they supposedly fixed on Monday!! I was FURIOUS!! I went straight back to Mavis and shoved that ticket in their face. They fixed it free of charge and told me to keep an eye on it because either I had an electrical malfunction or they "just got a bad batch of bulbs". I am pretty sure that they did nothing more than slap an inspection sticker on my car and charged me almost $200 for services that were never even performed. NEVER EVER GOING BACK TO MAVIS!! read more
