I brought my vehicle to Mavis Discount Tire Store Ridge Road West in Greece NY Thursday February 2, 2023 for a New York State Inspection. My inspection sticker expired this past November. The Mavis service person said I needed new breaks in order to pass the inspection with an estimate of around $1,000.00 to complete the job. I declined their offer and paid their invoice of $21.00. This morning I brought my vehicle to my long-standing repair shop who had an opening today, Wednesday February 8, 2023 to get my auto inspected again. NO BREAK REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR WAS REQUIRED TO PASS THE INSPECTION. My auto does need some other non-urgent repairs that have nothing to do with passing the inspection. read more

Do yourself a favor, and go ANYWHERE OTHER THAN MAVIS. I got two new tires about two weeks ago. I have front wheel drive, so I asked them to put the new tires on the front and rotate the ones I purchased last year from the front to the back. They didn't rotate them and put the new on the back. Last night, one of the brand new tires that was on the back (supposed to be on the front) completely blew out on my ride home. Thankfully, someone came to my rescue and put the donut on. First thing this morning, I brought it to Mavis. Not only were the tires on wrong and I had a flat, but the sensor was incorrect and was telling me the front passenger was at 0, rather than the back passenger. After waiting 3 hours for my car, I start driving home and any speed over 60 makes my car and the steering wheel shake uncontrollably. I am now back at Mavis waiting for them to fix what happened again. Likely, the tires weren't balanced. While I have been sitting here, I have been listening to the conversations of some unhappy customers as well. A gentleman came in for his appointment for new tires and the manager, Charles, claims that he has no record of his appointment and that he doesn't have the tires in stock. I also listened to Charles tell another unhappy customer that making an appointment here doesn't actually mean it's an appointment for your car, it's just an appointment to talk with him. Thankfully, I bought the warranty on the tires I bought two weeks ago, so my very long visit today has been free. However, it's honestly just a trap so they get you to keep coming back to them. They undoubtably leave something wrong with your car so you have to bring it back here. I think it goes without saying that I will not be buying tires from Mavis again. The prices are nice but the staff and all of the issues you face along the way are not worth the headache at all. read more

My son brought his car in to the Maiden Lane Mavis for an inspection. They told him he failed because of a control arm with a ball joint, and wanted $538 to fix it, then they would pass him. When he told them he wouldn't pay it at this time they made a point of belittling him in front of other employees and customers. They ripped of his sticker and he left. I took it to my mechanic and he laughed. Control arm with a ball joint has nothing to do with pass or fail. They should have let him know about it and passed him. A week later brake fluid was low and wanted to know why. Took it back to Mavis in Greece and was told he needed $1700 brake job because calipers were frozen. If this is true, shouldnt that have been caught at inspection. We are getting 2nd opinion. My daughter took her SUV to mavis and they told her she needed $1500 brake job, frozen calipers. Im skeptical about all of us having frozen calipers. Once we get that 2nd diagnosis, I will write again. I found the tires I wanted online and used their website to schedule my appointment. After dropping my car off, four hours later I got a phone call that my tires I selected were four days away from being shipped. I went back to go get my car and Donna, behind the counter, tried to explain to me it was my fault for not ordering my tires for them... I was very confused because the website never said to order tires and I never got a phone call after I made my appointment. I got very angry at this point. She then did some computer voodoo and found 4 tires for my vehicle. But this tires were not the $89 ones I looked into but $170 tires. Made me happier that's for sure. read more

I dropped my car off at 1 and was told my car would be done for an inspection in 2 hours and when I came back at 4:30... 3 and a half hours later my car hadn't even started. I have had great success with Mavis at different locations in western N.Y. including this location. I brought it in for 2 tires and alignment (wasn't out before but I wanted to make sure the new tires would last as long as possible). Got it back and it was pulling hard to the right. I brought it back in to get it fixed. Didn't take long for the call that it was done. I was at work so had my wife get the key and picked up the car after work. I made an appointment for oil change, inspection and tire rotation. I arrived at my scheduled time 4 PM. Shortly after I arrived a younger woman came in and said she needed work but also had to be out by 5:30. The manager bypassed me and my appointment and brought this person's car into be worked on ahead of mine. Unfair that someone without an appointment gets better service than someone with one. It took an additional 40 minutes for my car to be brought in. My appointment for 3 simple things took 1 hour and 45 minutes. The younger woman without an appointment was out in about an hour. Brought in my wheel bearing and hub to them so they can press it in but they put my magnetic wheel bearing backwards to my magnetic hub which casued me to have (my traction control,my abs system and my power sterring to go off) and promised me to fix it if i changed a bolt that holds the speed sensor to the knuckle (which i did) and said if my light on my dash wouldnt go away (which it didnt.) they would give me a brand new wheel bearing...so i left my car there overnight on a sunday and the next full day on Monday and they still didnt manage to do any work on my car.. very displeased with there service. read more

Made appt for NYS inspection and a tire mount. They were busy and I had a decent wait. When my car was brought in for inspection I found out I needed a second tire, but I didn't have very much money. They discounted my inspection and my 1st tire mount enough so I could afford to buy the second tire. Had a flat tire on Saturday - called AAA to put a donut on for me - found these guys were open on sunday - drove car over and my "check ABS" brake light came on Killed 2 birds 1 stone - I could have picked it up same day - but was too busy so picked it up Monday evening. I have a hunk of junk Ford Explorer and it seems everything decided to break on it at the same time! Seriously, I needed new brake pads and rotors all the way around; new outer rear tie-rod end; new passenger side rear wheel bearing; both lower ball joints; new emergency brake shoes, and I was missing half of my muffler! (Typical Rochester winter... :/ ) Anyhow, Mike and TJ got me in there and out with the absolute best service and without a doubt the best price in Rochester!!! I am an extremely satisfied customer and will undoubtedly come back when the need arises. I made an appointment for an inspection of my car. The appointment was for 9:30, and I showed up a bit early. I also asked if my other car could have one tire looked at for a slow leak. I waited until after 10:00, and didn't even see my car go into a bay. Since I had other plans, besides waiting all morning for them to inspect my car, my wife and I told them to call us when it was ready. As we left, we saw a car going in that was a "walk in" after we had arrived, and after our appointment time. It wasn't until 1:00pm that I called to get an update. After being on hold for about 3-4 minutes, we were told my car was inspected and ready to be picked up. When we arrived, and got our paperwork back, I was amazed to see that it wasn't until 12:58 that my car had passed its inspection. I am curious if I had been waiting there all day, how long it would have been before they finally got around to taking care of me. read more

I have gone here in the past ant things seemed to be just fine with great prices. I took my wife's car in because it seemed like the brakes were making some strange sounds. They took a look and recommended pads and rotors for the front. They were about to close so we took it home. Things didn't seem right, they had been done not long ago. I took a look, the were totally fine, pads were full and even. They didn't check the back brakes at all. The wheels were rusted in place when I pulled them off and those brakes needed replacing.
