Our kid took their vehicle there and they gave them an outrageous estimate (over 7K including tires) and told them they could possibly die if he kept driving it. Also EVERYTHING wrong had to be a complete replacement. We took the vehicle to our mechanic and the estimate was was under 1K (not counting the tires). Our mechanic had me walk under the car while on the lift showed me exactly what needed repairing. We also were notified by CarFax that Browncroft filed that they worked on the vehicle which is not true. Luckily I was able to gave CarFax remove that entry. Pretty shady dealings. SMH read more

I came to Rochester to visit my kiddo who is in college. Turns out their roommate had been driving on a doughnut (spare tire) because they had a flat over four months ago. Oh my gosh! In true mom style I couldn't have that go on for another minute! I grabbed the keys and I checked Yelp and found browncraft garage. The yelp reviews were stellar and I felt comfortable going there. To be honest I expected to be ripped off a little bit because we all sort of expect that when we go to the garage in another city and especially for me as a woman... That concern is still there. I expected to spend more than $1000 bucks on four new tires - but it was closer to $800 out the door with their best tires, they also checked all the fluid levels change the oil made sure all the lights in the dash turned off and my kiddos were safely back on the road. read more

I sent my feelers into the Yelpsphere asking for auto help and these guys were the first to jump on my ask and good for me they did because the service I received was amazing and didn't hurt the bank in any way, shape or form. Excellent customer service! My car was six months past inspection (yeah, I know), I had a broken side mirror from hitting a fence (I know), and my tires/brakes were not safe for the roads. These guys took care of my car in a few days and for LESS THAN a grand. Plus they were really informative and super nice and in a great locale. I had to drive to Buffalo, and so I really needed a car that could get me there safely and these guys did the trick. They kept me updated and my car hasn't looked nor driven so well in years! These guys are GREAT to do business with. They were my third quote for a pricey problem (or so they said) with my 1995 Volvo 850. (Great southern car with moderate mileage. I love it.) They looked at the car, gave me some options and went to work. I was treated with Courtesy, Respect and Promptness during the diagnostic phase. To my good fortune, Edwin found a few minor issues and repaired them. Going the extra mile they test drove my car for 3 days and could NOT make it fail again. While Browncroft Garage has been around for decades, I've recently become a loyal customer. Since a new owner, Scott, took over, they have worked on my 11 yr old GMC truck, 6 yr old Pontiac G8 and 1 yr old Subaru - I was happy with each service, and I can be a car snob. I've been to Browncroft for brakes - including full new lines, purchasing 4 new tires, alignment for my rear wheel drive low profile G8, balancing old tires I brought them - both 18" & 19", and basic LOFR on the new car. Prices are reasonable and they are easy to schedule with. Especially being open on Sundays. All the employees are friendly and helpful - it's a great example of a well run local business. The building is old(er), however, the technology needed to repair today's cars is all on site and up-to-date. FYI, Browncroft was a runner up in this year's City "Best of" for auto repair. I hope they win next year! (In full disclosure I have known Scott & Edwin for years. I am glad to see them helping our city by running a knowledgeable, professional auto repair shop!) read more

I brought in my old '98 Lexus LS in to get a second look at some brake issues and gave me an estimate at least a couple hundred bucks cheaper (and less dramatic) than Monro Brake and Muffler. Honest and straight forward, these guys won't cheat you and it's even more relaxed atmosphere at the garage. Extremely helpful in trying get answers about my oddball hybrid van

Eric is a straight up guy, these guys do good work at a reasonable price and get it done when they say they will. Example: I drive a 2008 Prius, it currently has 120,000 miles on it. A couple months ago I was driving to work and a misty vapor started to come out of the AC vents, and then the AC stopped working altogether. I brought it in to Eric and they quickly diagnosed it as a bad evaporator. This is no small job - a $300 part and roughly a whole day of labor. See link below for an idea of what it takes to get to the evaporator in a Prius. Last month, I went to one of the chain auto service shops for an inspection. I left with an estimate for over $1600 total worth of work. I was given the advice to find a well-respected local garage, and I'm very glad I did. The guys at Browncroft knew I really just wanted to pass inspection and have a safe car to put on the road. A few weeks ago I started hearing a grinding noise when I turned left. I took my car to Firestone. They initially told me it would be 30-45 mins for them to diagnosis the car. I waited two hours, and they came back with over $2800 worth of work I needed done. Of that amount $1400 was just for labor. So I took my car to Browncroft and after 2 hours of my car being looked at, I received a call. Not only did they tell me most of the things Firestone said my car needed wasn't a emergency, but it would only cost me a little under $1000 to fix every that was a emergency. So far so great. I plan on going to them for repair which would also only take a few hours which can be done while I'm at work so I dont have to sit around or be without a car.! Amazing job guys! read more

What a fantastic auto repair place! I drove from Boston to Rochester and some heat shielding fell off the underside of my car and some other stuff was hanging down. The guys at the garage were able to fit me into their schedule right away. They were extremely friendly, put the car right up on the lift, inspected everything, fastened down what needed fastening, and even checked my tires. They didn't even charge me anything. I needed to have my wheel bearing replaced on my 2007 Ford Fusion. I was unsure where to take it so I asked friends. they directed my to the Browncroft Garage. Boy was I pleasantly surprised!!! Not only were they the lowest price, but the customer service was superb. I dropped by the day before to make sure it was indeed a bad wheel bearing. They test drive the car then they put it up on the lift and listened with a stethoscope held to each wheel to clearly determine what was the cause of the noise. Scott the new owner explained the choices of an economy bearing and a higher end bearing to me in great detail. The garage was very clean and the service was done quickly. I took my car in June for an oil change and inspection and although I did not have an appointment, they were able to take my car in. The price to have both items was very reasonable. Since I didn't have an appointment, the guys there made me aware that my car may not be looked at until much later in the day, but they will call me and let me know so that I can have my car back for the next day. My car did get both items done and was able to pick it up after they had closed a half hour prior. I had to take my car back again a few days later as I had noticed some white smoking coming out of the tail pipe. The staff took a look at it again and inspected everything to make sure nothing was leaking to cause this, and I was not charged. I didn't feel I was taken advantage of being a woman in a car repair shop, they were honest and upfront about my car and answered any question I had. Definitely will be my place to go when I need my car fixed, I'm done with the big shops! read more

A great and honest mechanic is hard to come by and Eric is awesome! We live just down the road and haven't had too much car trouble so we haven't needed a mechanic. When the time came for a quick fix and needing to call someone I looked up local places. I've been ripped off by places like Monroe and Midas way too many times. I saw one review from 2009 on here and I gave this place a shot. I called, Eric got our car right in and we were done 20 minutes later! I was impressed. Then not a month later I had another incident running over a screw and called Eric and he got us in within the hour and we were again out in 20 minutes!! After finding a nail in my tire, I did a search for tire place. I was a little bit worried that since it was Sunday, not many places would be open. I found this place and went to it.
