This is my 2nd review for the same instance. I had an emergency brake job done there as I was leaving town and my brakes were shot. They squeezed me in and got me on my way. About a month or so later, the brakes were still squeaking. I called Clinton and they got me right back in. We are now on the 3rd set of brakes trying to get this right. It's a Dodge Challenger and they do not come without their challenges. Chris and Clinton have been pounding away at this to make sure it's right. I appreciate the tenacity and not wanting me to leave unhappy. Thank you guys, it's been a journey with these brakes. where to start: Farrell's cost me hundreds of dollars because of poor diagnosis. they replaced both front wheel hubs (4x4) in search of front end noise and also blamed tires. They're next step was to send vehicle to the transmission shop, that's when i had enough. i found the problem myself (acutor) was the problem 60$. also a few years back Farrell's replaced license plate lamp ,claimed they installed ford quality parts , NO they used cheap shit that recently failed taking out running lights. read more

Best service I've ever received at a garage. They took me back home and picked me back up when my car was done. They got the Nokian tires I wanted the same day I asked for them, and fit me in that day for an appointment. Just as cheap if not cheaper than any price I found online too. Great people. TL:DR - honest shop, honest work -- I've been to a lot of bad mechanics (I know a thing or 2 about cars) and these guys are the genuine article. Father and son business that did some suspension work and an inspection for me. When everything was said and done it had failed an emissions test due to a "lazy" O2 sensor. Instead of trying to hit me for a new sensor ($250), they suggested running some injector cleaner and an octane booster through it ($20) to see if that'd get it to pass, which they put in for me. They cleared the code, I drove it 200 miles (I travel quite a bit for work), gave me a 10 day emissions ticket for the cops, and I returned to finish the inspection and get the sticker. Worked like a charm. Saved me a ton at the expense of their payday, and the code hasn't come back after 3 weeks. FYI: this shop charges $85 for diagnostic time, but it's worked into the final price. At the end of the day, they're nothing but an honest business, and if you check my prior reviews, I've had my share of coming across bad garages. read more

We're visiting Rochester when my husbands car won't start as he needs a new battery ASAP in order to head home. We're staying at the East Avenue Inn and suites and the closest garage is Ferrels. They are able to test his battery, put a new one in right away and he's on the road super quickly. About an hour later, I get a call at the hotel that my husband left his credit card at the garage and they remembered him saying we were staying close by so they track us down and I am able to get the credit card before anything else goes awry. I would give them zero stars if I could. NEVER GO TO FERREL'S GARAGE! (read the whole review, it keeps getting worse) They will scam you and completely mess up at least a few weeks of your life. I took my car in to Ferrel's Garage for a NYS inspection since my trusted mechanic wasn't available. Upon dropping the car off everything seemed fine and I was expecting to pass the inspection or at least need to pay for some minor repairs. I have enough of a knowledge about cars to know when someone is trying to scam me. After getting a call telling me to come pick up my car I started to walk there. I arrived about 45 minutes later to have them tell me that they need to bring my car out of the shop, so I waited another 15-20 minutes. You'd think that they would at least tell me to come get my car after its done and not before its even out of the garage. On the phone they said that they barely had room in their garage to take my appointment so you would expect that they would be in a hurry to get my car out of the garage too. Apparently not. I paid the $21 cost for a NYS inspection and the employee proceeded to tell me that I'm looking at around $3,000 in repairs (more than the value of my car). I was surprised to hear this and told them I wanted to take the work to my trusted mechanic. I got into the car and started to pull out of their parking lot. Immediately I realized that my brakes didn't work AT ALL! I had to use the emergency brake just to avoid hitting other vehicles in their parking lot. I immediately parked and went back inside to ask how that happened. The employee was extremely rude and told me that "it was and old car" and said that these things happen. I said that it had to have happened while in their care because the car was fine going in and they did not make any note of brake problems on the list of reasons for a failed inspection. I drive this car every day so the likelihood of my brakes failing on their own in the two hours that the mechanic had my car is extremely low. I also realized that the odometer reading they recorded was the same for when i dropped the car off and when I got it back. This did not match the actual mileage of my car. They took a 2 Mile JOY RIDE!!! Thankfully I have a dash-cam. I was able to pull up the footage of the whole 2 mile joyride. The person who was driving was speeding excessively, going 50-60mph in a 30 mph zone. They were also slamming on the brakes and swerving for no apparent reason. It is NOT necessary or even recommended by NYS to take a car on the road for an inspection. The reason for this joyride was to put my car to the test. They wanted to get as many things wrong with the car as possible before inspecting it. A mechanic should have the common sense to treat a car with some respect and care if its an older vehicle. Obviously, they knew they could cause more issues for my car by driving recklessly so they could charge me more for repairs. Ferrel's Garage is should NOT be trusted. They are a bunch of scam artists and con-men. The owner Paul Ferrel is just as conniving as the rest of the employees that work there. I spoke to him in person about the matter and he kept telling me all of these blatant lies and reasoning for taking the car out. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THEM. They will take your money and leave you in a worse place than when you first contacted them. Right now I am without a car and have been stressed out trying to get to work and finding a new vehicle. All thanks to Ferrel's Garage for ruining my entire year. I hope you guys are happy that you successfully did something immoral and illegal. read more

I originally posted this review on yellowpages with the title: Ferrel's Garage, where confusion reigns supreme and you're just a number The world of auto repair can be tough. It's a sensitive time when you have no wheels and are at the mercy of an auto repair shop. I brought my car in with a serious engine problem. Five days later, their response was that they didn't know what the problem was and I would probably have to replace the engine. That was up to me though. After calling around, their price seemed to be the best. Mass confusion ensued from there. My original estimate was given at 3k with a good faith deposit of half this amount due up front. This amount was also to help with the cost of parts. In the week and a half that followed I did not receive a single call. No updates. Nothing. I called on Wednesday to find out the status and get some idea of the final cost. On the phone, they would not give me a number. His exact words were "I'm not worried about the amount right now, just about getting your car back on the road." Well, have there been any further costs? He said that they had to purchase some $20 parts that were not great on the new engine but that was it. From this I assumed that we would be pretty close with the costs. I called them again to follow up on Thursday and they said Friday. I called Friday and he said these things can't be rushed and it would most likely be Monday. He would call. Monday came, now three weeks without my car and he never called. On Tuesday I phoned the garage and they said it was ready. There was some shaking in the steering wheel but they could align the tires and have it ready for pick up that night. Great. So, how much should I bring with me? The final amount ended up being $600 more than the estimate, even though there weren't any added repairs or snafus. My response was confusion. Is there anything you can do? "Nothing". How about some sort of way I could pay a portion now and a portion later? "nope". No accommodations. I'm in tears at this point. I feel stupid for not pushing the point on the phone the week before. I felt helpless because I needed this car back and in order to get it I would have to empty a bank account. They said they would adjust my tires for free, give me a $20 coupon and $100 off the cost. But I still have this disgusting taste in my mouth. I'm just a number. When I received my invoice at pick up it said at the bottom "all parts and repair are guaranteed for 1 year or 12,000 miles" I said something about it, thinking well, at least I get this great guarantee. His response, "No, actually, for engines it is only 90 days. But that should be enough time to figure out if something is wrong." My response, "don't you think you should state this exception on the guarantee?" He said, "I'm sorry for the confusion." I took my keys and left. I'm writing this review because I am clearly upset. This business does not know how to do business. Fixing cars is only half of it. Don't go there. They have far too many people coming in and don't know what to do with them. You will NOT be a priority, even if you have an emergency or funds. They really just don't care. I'm a single young woman living by myself, ,my family is over an hour away. On my own with this one. Walking to work and they did not seem the least bit concerned. Dealing with the repair shop should NOT be part of the headache of a broken car. Best of luck with your car troubles. read more

I feel a bit "Hoodwinked" by Ferrel's Garage... I needed a tire re-sealed about a month ago and made a same day appointment at the Garage to have 1 tire fixed. I was charged $40.00 to have the 1 tire re-sealed, as well as a new valve stem... fast forward a month and the same tire still leaks so I bought 4 new tires and had my normal mechanic put them on my car for $80.00 (All 4 tires mounted, rims ground with a sander and bead sealant placed around rim and tire.) I realize I may have paid extra for the convenience of this garage being near my home... but I find it dishonest and unethical to over charge someone for work that was not properly performed. I am very sorry for Danielle G. I feel bad for her incident but i have been a 3 time customer of Ferrel's Garage. Each time was a great experience. Granted I only went in for tires and not car repairs, but I couldn't have felt less like just a number while i was there. The front desk knew me by name when I stopped in even without an appt. Even when they were busy they got me right in and out in just about an hour or so. I called in to get my gf tires from my work number so they couldn't look me up and he took his time going over the pros and cons of each tire and I asked which tire he would get for his kids and it was the one he offered me. Oddly enough each time I have asked them this it was NOT the most expensive tire they sell but one in the middle and when i double check the price they beat everyone in town and when I check the reviews they are spot on with what I was told. I have my own mechanical shop I use closer to my home but ill still take the 15 min trip downtown to get my tires done and go get breakfast or lunch at the diner down the road while I wait. There was one time i went in also with a blown tire and they said they had one that would run me about $100 bucks but instead of that they referred me down the road to a place to get a cheaper used tire to last me until the winter. That shows me a sense of humanity in a business that seems usually so cold. read more

I found the staff at this shop to be very honest, and my car received good care at fairly reasonable prices. They even recommended that I perform easy maintenance myself (like changing the engine air filter annually) rather than paying them to do it.
