Julie & her husband Ken is so nice and super professional! I'm getting a couple of major things done and some minor things as well. My exhaust was the first thing I've had done and I'm scheduled to get my struts and breaks fixed a little later! I just want to start off with how much they are working with me to get these things done. I'm not rich at all and if I had a stable job I would have loved to take them up on there offer with the credit options. But luckily, they know how to prioritize what needs fixing and scheduled me out for when I'll have the money to have those things fixed. Secondly, I want to point out how fast they got the job done! Julie had told me to bring it in so that they could diagnose the problem for me and that they could schedule me next week if I decided to get it fixed with them. Well, sure enough I bought it in on Friday morning, that same morning they were able to tell me what was wrong and the same day they ordered the parts and got it fixed! I literally got my car back at 3pm and genuinely did not expect that! I saw a sign in their shop and it said that they value their time, well I guess they also value everyone else's time too! I don't want to get into the free things that they did for me because I don't want anyone trying to come rip these lovely people off, but I do want to say the things that they did for me, that they had every right to charge me for, has let me know that I'm dealing with some really good people and has made this place my go-to spot! These are good hard working people who respects the customers that comes through their shop, no matter if you have a lot of money or not! The prices are absolutely doable and they don't pressure you if you can't do everything right then in there! Lastly, I just want to point out that I am a single black woman and the reason I bring up my race and gender is because we all know it matters, especially when it comes to mechanics! But Temstad didn't make me feel judged nor taking advantage of whatsoever! They were so welcoming and knowledgeable! Not only did they triple check my car but they explained every decision & priority to me. I really love that they weren't condescending because I don't know a thing about cars. They simply just explained it so I can understand the what and why! Like I said, as long as Temstad is open & will have me, they will now be my go to place! read more

Brought my car in with a dead alternator and a supposedly dying battery. They replaced the alternator but said the battery was totally fine. Two weeks later, I had to jump-start the car and waste time replacing the battery at another place. Update (as Yelp doesn't allow to reply on reply): I did mention initially that the battery seemed close to dying so it would be better to replace both the alternator and the battery. Too lazy to list all the signs before and after the repair (including testing by another actor beforehand), but the battery was 100% failing. No issues with the alternator job - it was done well. The main problem was the inability to identify the battery issue. read more

We took the car in for a NYS inspection with the understanding that there might be an OBD port issue. Tech reported that they had no trouble using the port, and quoted us $1500 to resolve two codes. No physical inspection was done and we had no idea whether the car would need additional work after the $1500 to clear that codes. I (not a mechanic, not my car) noticed that it needs brake pads at least, a new serpentine belt and a L lower control arm. Despite having no trouble with the scan (I had pushed the wires forward on the port the night before) we were charged $150 for an hour "diagnostic". I called back and said I was not satisfied with the charge or the explanation, and hung up. The office manager left a rude voice mail on my sister's phone and then called her AGAIN (she's at work). I could have handled it better but they could have been much more professional and ethical. Don't recommend. read more

Had components replaced on my vehicle, they were installed wrong, which resulted in a tow 5 minutes after they worked on my vehicle. Went back to the shop to have them reinstall new components, after all was said and done, vehicle hasn't been driving right and ended up taking it to a different shop. All repairs were blamed on me not the mechanic because I brought in the initial parts in the first place, which was installed wrong. Was overcharged and shop underdelivered. Would not recommend this shop to anyone. Take your money and business elsewhere like I did. read more

Poor service and unprofessional shop. Looking to get as much money out of you with semi mediocre repairs. Brought my car there for a transmission noise. They did a complete clutch install and didnt fix the problem. So they did a rebuilt transmission install wich i paid a total of 3k. I tested them bringing in my car for inspection. I called them shortly after i dropped it off and said i was hearing a noise. It was false. They called me saying the repair would be 300 dollars to pass inspection. I shot over to the shop before they scrapped my sticker. Told the shop manager he's a crook and many other words. Took my car elsewhere and it passed. My transmission went a year later. This shop main action is to take as much money from you and take advantage of you if you are in a predicament. The manager is behind it all. Selling cars that are over priced and are not met to safety standards. I now bring my vehicles elsewhere where I know the owners from my past. Do not recommend Temstad to anyone. I had to give a rating so I got stuck with one star. There should be a negative scale on this review site. read more

I first went to Temstad purely out of convenience. I live and work in the area, and I needed my oil changed, preferably while I was at work, so I wouldnt have to go a day without my car. Since then, I've been more than happy with them. My car is older, pushing 200k miles, so it needs upkeep and repair, and ever since my first experience with them, I've been beyond happy. They call me as they go, if extra charges arise, always have reasonable pricing, they understand I need my car for work, and do their best to get things done so as to make sure I have it when I need it. I cant say enough good things about these guys. Highly recommended. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Bought a nice looking small used car from this place. Thought they were doing great business by giving us 6 month warranty on the car for any issues. This car was for our child who was commuting to college and work. From day 1, the air conditioning and cruise control both worked erratically. Sure the place took the car back in and said they repaired the issues, on 3 occasions during the "warranty period". These issues persisted after the warranty period and 3 trips back to this place! We had to take the car to another trusted mechanic who was able to simply charge the AC and is now looking for a leak. This place did nothing to help us under their "warranty" which wound up costing us a lot of money in service time elsewhere. The cruise control is also being looked at by a mechanic. Don't trust this business!!!! read more

The people here are really friendly and the office is really nice and doesn't even smell too badly of cars. The problem is, they told me my engine was faulty beyond repair and I needed to buy a new car, when in actuality--as I found after I took my car elsewhere--the car only had a 200 dollar problem. I used to come to this place for repairs only because I knew one of the mechanics and he would hook me up with some good deals, but I don't think he works there anymore. Nevertheless it seemed like a decent repair shop so I came here today for work on my brakes. The only good part was that I was able to walk in and get my car looked at immediately without an appointment. Everything else sucked. First off they completely ripped me off and charged me a ridiculous amount of money to replace my pads and shoes. Its so difficult for me to get time to slip away to the mechanic because of my work though, and given the lousy shape my brakes have been in, and out of concern for other innocent motorists who must share the road with my almost unstoppable car I just ate the cost. The highway robbery wasnt what earned this one star review tho. I left my car there and decided to go out for awhile, but I returned early before they called me to let me know the work was done. Walking up to the shop I saw a car that looked remarkably like mine speed past me like a bat outta hell and slam on the brakes millimeters in front of the door at Temstad. I suppose they could have been taking it for a test drive, but after seeing the mechanic hop out of my drivers seat carrying bags of takeout food, I think the trip had a duel purpose. Owner sold me a car that was declared a total loss by insurance company and never told me. I found this out per CarFax. I was only told mark on rim was from when daughter hit a curb. Now car is worthless when I wanted to sell or trade in. Car to this day has never drove right after 12 times back to his shop. read more

After my initial review in 2010, I have since had several bad experiences at Temstad. I really want this place to succeed due to the proximity to my house, but I have been overcharged on autoparts, and most recently, my car was not finished when they said it would be, leaving me stranded for a night without a car. Temstad is a great family owned local business! I am really happy that I found them because I am sick of paying dealer and chain store prices! They are under new ownership, Don is running things (I think he took over about a year ago?). Anyway, I had them install a remote car starter in my brand new 2013 Honda CRV and they did a fantastic job. They are easy to deal with, fair, willing to work within your timeframe, and their prices are extremely competitive. If you want to support a Mom and Pop style local store that stands by their work, give them a chance; you will save a lot of money, and get quality results. I strongly recommend them! read more

This place is great. Been going here for a few years now, and always have a good experience. Stopped in tonight hoping they could mount a tire, so I did not have to drive on a donut. They were just about to close. Still mounted the tire for me. They did it in 10 minutes and did not even attempt to gouge me on price. BTW it was during the first snow storm of the year. Definitely could have charged me a fortune. As usual they were reasonable and very helpful. I have been taking my car to Temstad for over 10 years. I have always been treated with respect and my car has always come out of the shop in perfect condition. I was out of town recently and my brakes started making noise. I took it to a Monroe Muffler shop and they quoted me almost $700.00 to fix. I immediately call Temstad and they told me to drive carefully to there shop and did the same repair for $300. This is my way of thanking them for always being fair and honest. read more

I had the misfortune of actually purchasing a vehicle from Temstad which they "band-aid" fixed to look good for the sale. Being sold by an auto mechanic, I did not have my normal mechanic inspect it before driving away with it.....BAD IDEA! The car drove OK during the initial test drive but after about 3 days the check engine light came on. I had this checked and it was due to a bad sensor....OK, not a huge deal....THEN, I find out the gas tank has a hole in it, the brake lines are bad all around, radiator has a leak etc,etc. I contacted the "Salesmen" who said nothing was wrong with it when I took possession and they would not be assisting with any repairs. I did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary that would cause any of these issues to suddenly occur with a vehicle I had for less than a week. Now its in the shop having everything fixed at my expense by a real mechanic and not a band-aid mechanic. Basically, at this point I've written this off as a learning experience, but am warning ANYONE who is considering purchasing anything from them....beware. read more
