I'm not the only person here to leave a five-star review, and I can only repeat the praises everyone else is singing. The people at D&B Auto, Bruce in particular, are honest, competent, knowledgable, patient--everything you could possibly want in auto shop mechanics. Or, for that matter, friends. This is a fine shop; not only in their service, but in the thoughtful advice they give. I'm a fan for life, and will be taking my car there as long as D&B is standing. Bruce: you rock! And by the way: everyone hates wait times, but not everyone knows that less than a five minute stroll away is the Abundance Co-op, a somewhat hippy-dippy but amiable natural foods place with a large cafeteria area, good coffee, free books, soup and sandwiches, internet. Was recommended this place by Grace Road Church who helped pay for a car repair for my 04 Honda CRV. Mechanics Dave & Bruce are decent. Mostly spoke with Dave. After bringing it the first time - he commented saying "it probably wasn't worth putting money into", ok? Spare your opinions and just give me the estimate. Not everyone can afford cars "worth putting money into", hence why a very kind church was helping me... the other guy Bruce I barely spoke with, so not sure, but I know anytime I would ask when I should pick up the car, etc. Dave would become very brash "I'll call you when it's done", never able to provide ball park times, numbers etc. when I picked up the car after the repair, another man who I didn't recognize (Bruce?) was behind the counter. They have a waiting area, then next to the waiting area is a front counter. But when you enter the shop, there's a window that oversees that counter next to the waiting area, making it appear as if you could be helped at that window. Both times I went I waited at that window because like... how am I supposed to know any different? The man asked if he could help me, I said I'm picking up my car, he continued speaking to a woman and her child, who then pointed me to the waiting area "maybe you didn't see it" she said, or maybe the owners of this business should direct a new customer on how things are done around there instead of assuming that they just know? Nobody behind the counter. As the other man went back to the garage area. Not bothering to further clarify anything I should know with the repair... But, my key and an adjusted invoice with several others laid on the counter- "That's it...?" I look around, no one to help clarify anything to me. I was in a rush anyway, and so I grab my key and the invoice and leave. They are friendly enough, but can leave their personal opinions about other people's vehicles out of business. Also some hospitality and direction would help A LOT for newcomers. The job ended up being less than anticipated & they notified me as such to let the church know to send a new check. for mechanics I think this is pretty solid. Stereotypically they can be seen as crooks. Many mechanics probably wouldn't have said anything at all. Do appreciate the honesty. read more

Kind patient mechanics, very knowledge and when they knew i needed a thing they did mot specialize in they sent me to a place with a better price. I miss these guys so much! For the past 5 years I've been leasing a newer vehicle so I don't get to see them as often as I did when I drove my 2008 RAV4. You will never find more honest mechanics anywhere. It's super important as a female especially to be able to trust that you're not getting ripped off and/or condescended to. They always made sure I got my vehicle back quickly because I was a single mom with a kid that used a car seat and Rochester is not a public transit friendly city. Their prices are fair and they are awesome. My stepdaughter (17) just purchased a new to her used car and next time she needs a tune up I know exactly where we'll go. read more

Been staying at my sons apt this past week helping him get settled before new semester at RIT . Had a issue with his car the day before I fly back my home In Arizona. Did not want to leave him "hanging" with a possible breakdown. I used Yelp and found D&B as it was close to his apt. Exceptionally skilled and absolutely the KINDEST mechanics I've ever met. My partner and I have taken both of our cars (2008 Honda Civic Hybrid & 2012 Ford Focus) to them for a few years now. Went there this morning for an oil change and inspection on my 2011 Smartcar after they were recommended by a friends who also owns a Smartcar. I called the week prior and spoke with Bruce to make the appointment. He was very friendly and answered my questions. I didn't have any trouble finding their shop as it's located right on Mt. Hope, near the Time Warner building. There were a number of cars in their lot but I was able to find parking. Their entrance is actually on the backside of the building, close to the garage bay doors and they have a customer sitting area with a couch, chairs and some magazines. It's not the classiest place in the world but they MORE than make up with it by how they treat their customers. Just bring a book or something with you to keep yourself busy if you're going to wait for your car instead of just dropping it off. I worked with both Bruce and David that day and they were both friendly, courteaous, frank and easy to work with. At no point did I feel pressured at all, which is really important to me as a young, single woman who doesn't really know too much about cars. They took the time to explain different things to me so that I could take better care of my car -- turns out the little caps on tires are REALLY important and can save you lots of $$.. I had no idea. They also took the time to run the cost of the oil change by me before working on my car, making sure that I knew that my car required a synthetic oil instead of regular. I already knew but I thought it was awesome that they ran it by me first -- other places hadn't and it was a bit of a shock on the first oil change. During my inspection, it turned out that I needed to replace some of my tires. They gave me a quote for how much it would cost them to replace, mount and balance tires for me. I'm on a limited budget and they talked with me about how much it would cost just to have them mount and balance tires if I found them someplace else. I ended up going to another shop but came back to D&B Auto later in the day (without an appointment) to have them finalize the inspection. They were just as fast and friendly the second time around. I'm incredibly impressed with their work and professionalism and will definitely be going back to them whenever my car needs any work or service. I highly recommend them! read more

Very selective and dis honest looks like I brought my car one day he says one price bring back two days later he states numbers that made no sense all because he didn't want to deal with the issue definitely would not recommend wasted my time and energy when I initially told him the problem he should of stated he didn't do that work too much or in depth very disappointed at this guy and his shop. read more

Dave and Bruce are the absolute best mechanics in Rochester. I took my car to them for the first time a few years ago when a friend referred them to me. The repair I needed had been quoted to me at $500 at a different shop, and when I went to D&B it cost closer to $200. These guys are honest and reliable. I took my car in today for a repair, and within an hour and a half got a call that it was ready to be picked up. And the best part is, it only cost me $60 when I had been prepared to spend about $150. As long as I am in Rochester, Dave and Bruce are the only mechanics I will let work on my car. read more

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and one day my turning signal was acting weird. I went to a dealer shop and they asked me $60 for a diagnostic, and told me I had to change the entire turning column (everything that the wheel is connected to). I doubted it and brought it to Bruce, whom was recommended to me by a colleague. Bruce literally saved me, fixed it before I got off work (I dropped my car at 2). He fixed it and it was not what the dealer told me what the problem was! He saved from spending $1,200 on changing the entire column, and then having to spend $300-400 for the signal. I highly recommend Bruce for his honesty, skills, and attitude at doing good work and making sure we are safe on the road! read more

I had a great experience with d & b when my car started making a loud noise. I brought it in one morning with little notice, and they were able to find out what was wrong and fix it before I was done with work that day. I looked up how much my service would cost at other places, and d & b was significantly less expensive. It's been a few weeks with no problems too. Rating: Exceptional/ Reliable/ Trustworthy service This place does honest work. Both Dave and Bruce (D&B) are very helpful and knowledgeable about cars. They won't do any necessary work to just do work, rather they try and make sure the work needs to be done on your car before billing you for it. Another mechanic before told me I needed to replace my timing belt in the next 5000 miles, whereas Bruce looked up the manufacturer recommended replacement mileage and told me I had another 30,000 miles before I needed the work. Rather than telling you your car needs work and doing it prematurely just to get billable work, and if you don't know enough about cars you will likely believe your mechanic, D&B will tell you what you really need. They go by the mechanic handbook supplied by the car manufacturers as a reference rather than pulling numbers out of the air. If you're in the South Wedge area, this place is even more convenient because you can drop off your car and walk home. Then walk back to pick up your car. Definitely give them a try if you think your mechanic is not working out or just need a second opinion. I've been using D&B for a few years now, since 2010, and my friend who recommended D&B has been using him for 10+ years. These guys are great! I would give them 10 Stars if I could! I have been bringing my vehicles to Dave and Bruce since they worked for Morris Motors at this very same location they now own over 20 years ago. D & B, Dave and Bruce, no secretaries no service writers just them they do it all. Honest Service, Free Advice and Great Mechanics, I recommend them to all my friends. If you live on the West Side or East Side it is worth the trip. If you want an honest second opinion i recommend you check them out before being led astray by other not so competent or potentially less than honest shops.
