Just stopped in to see how much it would cost to replace a TPS sensor in my rear tire, the gentleman behind the counter told me this sensor alone was a $150 for the sensor plus installation. Found elsewhere for $49 plus tax installed. Would not recommend this place has fallen to the wayside. Price gouging at its best. Don't use Mavis unless you want pass the buck kind of work done on your car. My wife brought her car here on the for a tire replacement after visible damage to a tire. Mavis staff failed to make ANY mention at all that her other tires needed to be replaced they also failed to do a visual inspection to see if she needed an alinement which is mentioned on their website they are supposed to do for free on every tire replacement. She did in fact need the alignment and it was visible that she needed it wasn't until she went to another shop less than a week later that all this came out. Every staff member in that shop passed the buck claimed they didn't know why this gross failure happened and conveniently no one from management was there not a single person apologised for the waste of time and gas and loss of pay they cost her making her drive back out to fix mistakes that they made it could have all been taken care of in one trip had the staff done their job. A simple I'm sorry we messed up on this one let us fix it would have been great but no all she got was I don't know don't know it's not my problem I wasn't here and a very crass attitude overall. read more

We're from out of town -- so when John's Garage disappointed us on New Year's Eve afternoon (a trim piece was dragging off our Camry) we were delighted to find this Mavis store -- not only open, but with the gracious TAYLOR at the helm. They fixed the dragging part, were friendly as can be, and didn't even want to charge us. (I ignored the last part.) Horrible place, young mother of two small children. Spent 2weeks pay for a set of tires to keep my kids safe and myself came out the next day two tires completely flat two other tires down to 15 psi they never sealed the tires or checked for beed leaking. Brought it back they said they would fix the leaks but then wanted to charge me to rebalance the tires after they tried to get away with letting me leave without balancing them after they were dismounted to seal them I'm not a dummy obviously you take a tire off to reseal it it's going to need to be rebalanced and I'm not paying for it when it was your shotty work on a brand new set of tires that all leaked after installation highly recommend not going here to anyone go to Seward's tires or anywhere else besides this place read more

Hands down a horrible place since losing last manager. There is no greeting or even attempt to make you feel welcome anymore. The store failed at multiple repair attempts recently, placing me in danger and the manager blew it off. They failed to fix two separate major issues after two tries and they can care less if you are concerned. The manager literally avoids people like the plague. Go to Mavis at your own risk. I will not be going to Mavis again. I went in for a simple oil change, but they tried to pressure me to get new front brakes and routers. About a week ago I got my brakes checked at a different place and they said the front were fine, and just fixed the back ones. When I told Mavis I didn't want the front brakes changed, just the oil, they said "well the mechanic might have already started so..." I stood my ground and still said no front brakes, which they seemed annoyed about. I also didn't like that they told me I should rate them a 10 or a 9 in every category unless I wanted to talk to them when they call me about a low rating. They pressured me to rate them highly which felt kind of threatening (keep in mind I'm a small young woman). I will NOT be going back. read more

The service has gone downhill with staffing changes. It used to be great. The front desk "greets" you with an antisocial "too cool for school" mentality. When you call, they it you hold or pass you along without so much as a "please hold." I hate to say it, but I'm no longer confident they're doing the work they say they are. I normally only post positive reviews. And my experience was a year or more ago, so maybe things have gotten better? But, here's the story. I had gone in here a few times for straightforward needs. Things went fine. Then I went in with a car that requires very specific tires, in particular sizes. I called in advance and the guy on the phone said he had what I needed. I drove over, and again he assured me he was giving the car what it needed. But I was sensing something strange, so I said, so you have the tires in stock? And he replied that he was going to give me four tires that were all the same. Not the tires that the car manufacturer insists for on this car (two 225v 50r16 and two 205 55r16), and that I had asked for, and that he had JUST looked up in his book of what the car needed. As you may have figured out by now, I am a bit of a car guy. And it just really pissed me off that to get the sale done, he would give me the wrong sizes for the car. I walked out of there and got the work done at Sewards, across town. Some of the other reviews, of them not listening...I suspect they are true. read more

I was in need of an oil change before my normal mechanic could fit me in. I happened to have an afternoon open and called to inquire about an appointment. I called at 1:45pm, and the person who answered said they had a slow day and to come in at 3pm. I got there at 2:45 and checked in with the person at the desk. I sat in the waiting area and stared at my vehicle in the lot until about 4:30pm. When they finally got my vehicle in the garage I was told my oil pan had a hole in it. I disagreed, as I've never once had anything leaking from under my vehicle, and said I'd let my normal mechanic know to check it out. Finally at nearly 5:30pm my vehicle was done. Over 2 hours for an oil change with not so much as a "Sorry it took so long". I guess good customer service costs extra. read more

I always give places a second maybe even and third chance- but this is the last straw. Not only did they not fill the air in my tires the second time resulting in a flat tire not once but twice, but now that I'm back to have my winter tires change again- they tell me that the tires that I have are the wrong size! When they were the ones who changed them in the first place--- so where did my tires go--- apparently they gave my brand new Yokohama tires away to some lucky person! These guys are UH-MAZING! So friendly and just genuinely nice guys. Went in about three times during my stay in the Berkshires. First to get snow tires and then to get a flat tire changed. Last two times was for an oil change and to change my snow tires back to my regular ones. Thing is, I don't go in there expecting them to be quick. I think people need to realise that car maintenance isn't something that can be done quick especially if you want it to be done safely and correctly. Yes, you are going to be waiting a while. I always made my appointments with Mavis towards the end of the day knowing I was probably gonna have to wait past closing which I don't mind as long as they don't mind. They were always treating me well because I was treating them well. Be a pleasant person and I assure you you will get excellent service. You aren't the only person there they have to work with, your car isn't the only one in the garage and it's not like they're just standing around making you wait because they're jerks. They're busy, take this into account before you make faces and complain. These guys were always good to me and I felt they always tried to go above and beyond what I expected in making me feel satisfied with the service I received. Definitely recommend. Now I just need to find guys like these here back home in California! read more

For the past twenty years I have maintained three automobiles. None are/were new. Each for different uses (off road, local hauling, long distance driving). I've had each vehicle in shops for maintenance, both routine and preventative. During this period I have used a number of different vendors to service the vehicles in different states (on different coasts), and different cities. Yesterday was my third visit to Mavis Discount Tire. I can unequivocally state that the service I received met my expectations if not exceeded them. I rely on trained observers to report issues that need to be dealt with before there is a problem. Brake sensors changed, power steering fluid swapped out, radiator sensor issue diagnosed. All accomplished within three hours, at a reasonable price, by an extremely courteous, respectful, and knowledgeable team. I can honestly recommend this vendor to Yelp and non-Yelp alike and without hesitation. read more

I just watched the manager of Mavis discount tires in Great Barrington drive a customers car around the building at extremely high speeds. He was racing the motor so high it sounded like he was trying to purposely blow the engine. Total disregard for the people walking in the parking lot he almost had several customers and several employees. G was driving it as if he was in a nascar race. Not a chance I would take my car to that place it's not the 1st time we've seen him do it.When I asked him to slow down for the safety of our customers he told me to F off. I would be very careful if you go in here. They are very proficient at upselling and selling you things that you do not need. I have had this experience with them twice in the past few years and since have spoken with other locals that have had the same things happen to them. My latest experience was when I pulled in with a minor concern and they told me within 5 minutes that my vehicle needed $600.00+ dollars worth of work immediately for safety reasons. Not being prepared to pay that I went to two other local shops that I have known for years-- each spent over an hour checking every detail of what Mavis claimed was wrong and found absolutely nothing wrong in those areas. My eventual total cost to repair what Mavis had told me would be over $600.00 was $47.00 read more

I have been here twice now for tires on both my cars. Each time the staff were helpful and responsive. I was worried about being pressured to buy extra services, but that was not really a problem. They seemed happy to just put new tires on my car. Also, unlike other places, the entire staff seemed engaged and willing to help with customer inquires or issues. I am actually not sure that they know much about tires they don't sell, or tires and car models for that matter. DO NOT HAVE THIS LOCATION WORK ON YOUR CAR!! I brought my car in for a simple brake job, they ended up selling me shocks, struts, and sway bars. After getting the car back there was a thud sound when I hit bumps, not a sound I expected to hear after having all this work done. I returned to the shop to tell them about the noise they told me I needed a new control arm on one side, I agreed to it to be rid of the sound, during installation they broke a screw and could not finish until Monday when the parts store opened, I rented a car for the two days returned Monday to pick up my car, no I am sorry, no sorry for the inconvenience just I will check you out ... I get back in the car and the thud is still there. I take it to another shop to have them look and they did not tighten one of the shocks all the way down. So on the top of the receipt later I notice it said an 800 number to call if your not satisfied. I call and calmly explain all of the above and the nice lady on the phone stated the manager of the district would call me back and see if they could compensate me for all of this. I stated I was not looking for it but thanks, The area manager calls me back and says I don't know what you want me to do they gave you the control arm at cost, I said again I wanted to let you know of the unsatisfactory experience I had.. he then asks why I did not call sooner to let them know...HORRIBLE Customer follow up no apology or anything from him just questioning me about why I did not call sooner...stay far away from this garage..if not deal with what comes read more
