Excellent wine tasting at this winery, which is very professionally run. Bmthey have a beautiful setup with a small indoor tasting room (can probably accomodate two parties in the public area and then there is a private room for members, I assume) and two patio areas (lower and upper). The patio areas include misters in the upper garden, which can accomodate at least four parties. Our experience was with Kaitlyn, who used her background as a chef to give us pairing ideas for each wine. The tasting was more personalized in this way, but also more approachable because it wasn't stuffy. They have lots of staff so that each party has a dedicated staff member who runs the tasting. The winery also makes a cider and port, though the port is more a ruby and the wine is where they shine. This winery supports lgbqt+ and was recommended by Hidden Chapel to us.

Phantom Creek Estates - Inside the tasting room

Phantom Creek Estates is a work of art! We were visiting from the Bay Area in California (where…read morewe've visited world class wineries in Napa Valley many times), and were blown away by this incredible winery. My husband and I only had time to visit 1 or 2 wineries in Oliver/Osoyoos the day after we ran the Half Corked Marathon, and we're so glad we chose Phantom Creek (which was also recommended to us by the owner of a local coffee shop in addition to being featured in the Half Corked Marathon). The elegant angel sculptures and modern design of the buildings instantly took our breath away. Then we stepped out onto the huge outdoor terrace and caught sight of the endless vineyards. This was going to be an experience... It got even better! We were seated on the terrace overlooking those insane views, and enjoyed live music by a local musician while tasting 5 different wines brought out to us by Yun. I can't say enough nice things about Yun: she was so warm and welcoming, and though she said she was new there, her knowledge and hospitality were excellent and that of someone with years of experience. We would love to have her be our wine tasting guide again! She certainly made our visit even more enjoyable. From the Chardonnay, Viognier, and Rosé, to the Carbonic Syrah and Cuvée, we truly enjoyed every sip. My personal favorites were the Carbonic Syrah and Organic Rosé. And to top it all off, we decided to get a couple of scoops of their authentic Italian gelato for dessert. A sweet ending to our unforgettable time at Phantom Creek!

A stunningly beautiful winery that's a work of art. The path up to the winery from the parking lot…read moreto the main buildings as you walked underneath the two art statues provided an impressive grand entrance. I've noticed different background music depending on where you are standing and I thought that was a subtle, yet well thought out detail. When you were close to the outside of the main tasting room, the music was slightly more upbeat and fun. The music that was closer towards the restaurant was more spa like and relaxing. The view you get to immerse yourself in during the tasting is breathtaking. Unfortunately, due to the smoke, we weren't able to sit outside, which was a shame and not Phantom Creek's fault. We had the premium tasting with the charcuterie board and it was worth it. The charcuterie board was unique and not like any other boards we've had during our wine tastings. The staff were so knowledgeable and experienced. They were able to answer all our questions we had. Our favorite wine was the Syrah, but you had to join the wine club in order to purchase it. The only thing they needed to work on is the amount of flies inside the tasting room. I know it's fly season, but there should be some way to trap the flies on sticky paper and etc because it took away from the amazing experience as you're trying to swat away flies. We didn't want them to land on the food and one even got into the wine glass and they should have replaced it.

My girlfriend and I were on vacation through Okanagan wine country. Over six days, we visited…read moresixty wineries. You can follow our various locations with this disclaimer. That's sixty wineries, not an exaggeration. What's the biggest lesson to take back from it? For one, don't feel pressured to buy wine from every winery, because you end up trying to squeeze almost a hundred bottles into a tiny Nissan versa note. Once you include the boxes we had shipped, it ended up being 120 bottles. Now that the Wines of BC department of Save On is found basically across the province, there is no reason to purchase outside of those unique bottles found only at the wineries. We don't regret our purchases; they just made transportation rather difficult. Less than two kilometers from Burrowing Owl, two minutes away (okay, more like thirty seconds the way I drive), is Black Hills Estate winery, and no two wineries could be more different. Where Burrowing Owl tries to replicate the village from Three Amigos, Black Hills is modern, though in no way plain or less interesting. It's what I like about this region of Okanagan wine country, every location is different, every one a surprise. The tasting room is picturesque with wall-to-wall glass revealing not the dystopian panorama of a Phillip K Dickian urban sprawl, but rather romanticized and obviously hyperbolized endless rolling hills draped in vines. The Blade Runner metaphor apropos given Black Hills' brutalist yet diminutive concrete walls and sharp edges broken up by simplistic black signs. Past the tasting area is a modest dining balcony outfitted with water spritzers to cool the patrons. Past that the sapphire pool (which they arbitrarily call a water feature, probably because they don't let people swim) and fringing dark gazebos (or cabanas if you thought I was talking about gazelles) where the girlfriend and I found ourselves. Yes, we opted for the most expensive wine pairing, the VIP, and it was barely an hour past noon. An educated and shadow-shrouded man (we're low, he's high, and there's sun) walked us through six generous portions of wine, three reds and three whites. Very generous portions. He explained the desert-like conditions of the region and the various techniques used in the making of the wines we sampled, all while the two us sunk deeper into incoherence, more the girlfriend than me, explaining why she opted out of the next two wineries. The wine was memorable, though in the end, we ended up picking up only four bottles, all white, two known as Alias while the others chardonnays. No reds, very astute--we just weren't feeling them at Black Hills. I love the simplistic yet effective décor, and their whites are worth investigating, but the reds just didn't win us over. Despite obviously less than Burrowing Owl, Black Hills is still a must-see location in the region.

Although I am not sure who uses the pool... also it was too early for lunch so we didnt try the food but it sounds good. The tasting was great and I ended up with a damn good bottle of Nota Bene. Mixed feelings on the service, it was good but slow? Maybe thats the right word. It might have been on purpose to give us time but it just seemed off. Dont get me wrong it was good and the server was very knowledgable but something seemed off. Anyways well worth stopping in!!

Me and my brother in-laws went to Desert Hills Winery while staying in Osoyoos…read more It's situated on Black Sage Rd where the majority of the wineries are in the area It's a smaller venue Tons of acres of vineyards sprawl in their plot of land They have a bistro unfortunately that wasn't open the time we had went The menu looked good and reasonably decent They even have these cabanas you can dine out of which is really cool They even have this friendly dog that greeted us with a rock in his mouth However there is a sign that states he's not good with other dogs so I'd recommend not bringing your pooch to this winery We had a wine tasting for $5 I liked this tasting a bit better than another winery we went to because we got to chose which wines we wanted to taste off their menu We tried the Chardonnay, the gurtztreimener, the savay noir, the flora & fauna, the Syrah and our server gave us an added one in the port I definitely recommend the gurtztreimener, the Syrah and the port Ended up buying a bottle of the gurtztreimener The most unique one was the savay noir as it had this smoky taste to it which unfortunately was caused by the forest fires from years prior but brought this unique flavour to it Our server was super friendly and gave us great info about the wines we tried Definitely recommend this place to hit up while doing wine tasting in the area

They have a $5.00 tasting fee and you need to purchase 4 bottles before they refund your money…read more Desert Hills has been one of our favorite wineries but we will not be returning since we are against non-refundable tasting fees. We feel that the wineries are trying to promote their products and should not be charging a fee to promote their products. That being said while we enjoy Desert Hills wines they will not be on our itinerary on future trips. There are plenty of wineries who have wines that are equally as good and do not charge to sell or promote their wines.
