My teen wanted to surf but didn't want to go to the local spot where everyone was taking lessons. I wasn't sure what to do. I called up Maui mike for advice and possibly a rental. He was great, told me what to do and best places to go. When I hung up the phone I thought I might just "wing it" the next day. Surprisingly later that day, I got a text from him offering to hand deliver a surf board to the beach we discussed the next day! Uh, yes please! It was so great, we met in the parking lot, he taught us how to strap the board to our rental car, even gave my daughter some pro tips. Last time we were on Maui (2019) we went to a couple Ululani's for shave ice then to the Olowalu General store which we liked much better for the more authentic atmosphere and the shave ice itself. We were headed back (on a Sunday I think) and it was closed! (Insert sad face here) with 2 disappointed kids, we found Maui (Mike's) Beach House and have been back every time. Best Shave Ice on Maui! (IMO) price is right, flavors you can't beat and "local style" with vanilla ice cream and sweet cream is the way to go fo sho! Get a punch card - 10 and the next is free. 4 of us we go 3 times per trip. Favorite flavors: Me (old guy) Pineapple, Coconut, Banana; wife - Banana, Mango, Pineapple; Daughter 1 - cotton candy; Daughter 2 - strawberries and cream with chocolate ice cream. I went chocolate ice cream last time (those fruits seem to go with chocolate) and it was also good. People are great, there usually isn't a line. Your one stop shop for a fun, and cheap, day in Lahaina. There's no tables but you're basically 1 block inland from Front Street, so walk your goodies to the water and enjoy it there. We got the All Beef dogs with Maui onions which were huge and quite filling, definitely a good deal. I got the Tiger's Blood (strawberry and coconut) shave ice with the Macnut Roselani ice cream filling. Yum! I stopped by here earlier yesterday with my wife for a shave ice. We had seen Mauis Beach House a couple of days earlier and thought it was cool that they also served shave ice in addition to having their store. The building is large and has vibrant yellow and greens painted outside (at least on the back) and sits right on RT 30. For our shave ice on this afternoon my wife and I went with a passion fruit and coconut on top of Mac nut ice cream. The flavors here ended up being really good as both the coconut and the passion fruit came through nicely. My only complaint with them was that they were a bit too sweet for my liking although not as cloyingly so as other places. At least the syrup was evenly distributed and made it all through the ice without having to get more. As for the ice itself, it was thin and fluffy. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed the shave ice and thought that the syrups here were a good combination of flavor and sweet without being over the top. read more

I very randomly stopped by the shop because I saw two GoPro signs on the building while driving past. I had installed the wrong battery door on my GoPro Hero 9 Black camera that was NOT waterproof and forgot to switch it back to the waterproof one that came with the camera before we left Texas for Maui. I had planned on driving from where we were staying in Ka'anapali to Wailuku to buy someone else's used GoPro Hero 9 Black, to just have a water submergeable camera for our trip, and sell it when I got back to Texas. I walked in with less than 5% hope that the store would sell just the specific camera model's waterproof battery door that I needed; however, to my surprise, they carried that specific part! Nevermind that the price was marked quite a bit higher had I just ordered it on Amazon.com or directly from GoPro --- I needed the part asap and lucked out that they had it in inventory. I gladly paid the higher price and that has allowed me to take pictures and videos of my kids underwater on this trip. It saves me the hassle of having to buy my same exact camera pretty much as a loaner and re-sell it when we were back from vacation. The staff was super helpful and nice as well! read more
