I didn't closely check the board I rented and when I returned it they noticed a cracked fin box. They trusted me when I said that I didn't hit anything and they didn't charge me for it. It has been two years since my family and I were in Maui. Once we got settled in our condo the first thing we did was to drive to 808 Boards to rent SUPs for the time we would be here. We have rented from 808 Boards in the past and loved the service. When we walked in the door we were greeted by Dallas the owner. Dallas was great in helping us determine the best type of board and paddles for my daughters. The light weight carbon paddles we rented are really nice. I told Dallas that at home my go to board is my SIC Carbon Bullet 14x27.5 Much to my surprise Dallas said he had a Touring Board that he knew I would like. Thanks to Dallas I have paddled every day for the last 8 days. What a joy as the performance of the board for down winding or paddling against the wind, or touring has been excellent. I can't say enough good things about Dallas and his staff. They are pleasure to work with. We plan on coming back for a couple of weeks in March and of course one of our first things to do is head to 808 Boards. read more

Our family wanted to spend some time in the water paddleboarding and based on reviews we headed to 808. We pulled up to the parking lot since we were not sure if they had boards available which they did so strongly recommend that if you are planning to stay for the day find parking along the roadside. The staff was super friendly and gave us information on where to stay since it was slightly windy day. We had paddleboard in the past and I appreciate that the staff was cautious about renting the boards due to the wind but even in great conditions, paddleboard maneuvering takes strength. Snorkel sets are available for rent as well and we took a few and the area was perfect for snorkeling. The best thing we saw was a turtle in the water just lounging around in the water and catching food that came it's way. Pricing is very reasonable on the rentals. read more

My friend and I took 60 mins paddle boarding lesson from Jeff and it was absolutely amazing experience. Initially I was a bit skeptical since it was my first time but Jeff taught the steps pretty well. He was very patient with us and gave us enough time to learn. Luckily we also saw a pod of spinner dolphins and that made the whole experience special. Dallas and other staff members of 808 board are also very friendly and helpful. Went in and bought $100 worth of merch and saw a board I wanted to rent for my 11 year old. It was the last one in the size we needed. He volunteered to save it for me so I could come back after breakfast next door and dropped off my family so the board would fit. Got back two hours later and he said "I gave up on ya. I remember 808 when they were in Napili....great location, lots of choices for boards, sponges, etc. Went to Maui to support the Lahaina strong effort and as a local growing up in Honokawai and attending Kam III my heart was broken. Seeing the 808 honokawai store was depressing....poor board selection, sponges were for beginners and when I rented an umbrella and opened it it had a dent at the top SO USELESS. Also the surfboard had a ding that was covered by the 808 sticker (smart eh). My neighbor had an extra umbrella so we borrowed his. When I returned the umbrella, the rudest employyes asked me if the winds broke it. I said no and he then replies "why didnt u call us?" And I told him about the neighbor. He kept asking me if the wind broke it...finally I just said give me a refund and he asked me to get the f@&k out. I told him I was a kammaiina and he said "sure".....now Im pissed. This is a great spot to rent high not only long boards and SUPs but also high performance surfboards. I came here for a vacation and wasn't expecting to do much surfing, yet when the swell unexpectedly picked up, I was still able to score fun sessions with my family dude to the great selection of equipment here. They also have very fair rates and a great policy that lets you swap out/ try different boards at no additional cost, if you visit the store in person. I'm never going to bother with the headache of bringing my own boards from LA to Maui as long as 808 boards is in business. read more

I had a great overall experience renting from 808 boards. Everyone was patient and friendly and also super knowledgeable. I had the best rented board in all the lineups I was in compared to the other rents from other board shops. I was able to swap out boards super fast during my stay. Unfortunately I never got his name but he saw that the shortboard I grabbed off the rack was set as a thruster but went out of the way to switch it to a quad because he thought I'd have more fun (which I did) Board rack setup, leash, wax are all included. Highly recommended for experienced surfers and beginners alike. Would come back when on the island. read more

They went above and beyond with their customer service. We rented Skim boards one day, then got surf lessons - our instructor, Dylan, was amazing with our boys (11 and 12). It was safety first and our boys just really enjoyed hanging out with Dylan - we also rented surf boards separately (after taking lessons). Crystal gave us great advice on a safe and beginner friendly location where we could go surfing with our boys. I love that they really took the time to educate us on the "do's and don'ts" as far as where to go and where not to go and the best times and safest times to go out on the water. Got my paddle board and quick lesson on picking the right size board (32" for me), foot placement, how to carry the board, best time and places to go. 24hr rental is $48 I believe - went out 3Xs for about 40mins each time. Two sunsets and one sunrise. Water is clam and light is beautiful. Had a blast and highly recommend 808. I'm a fan and will be back. read more
