Maggie took great care of us. Very happy with the customer service, communication was quick and friendly. I had never been scuba diving and this was such a comfortable and easy learning environment, but they take their jobs seriously! I never felt more at ease after trying something for the first time! 11/10 would recommend! We joined MPD for their first ever Private Charter to scuba dive Cathedrals near Lanai. Highly recommend if you want a more comfortable (not smashed in a boat with 20 divers) and personal experience. The smile on my toddlers face exemplifies the rich experience we had with Maui Pacific Divers. We took a sunset ride from Maalaea to Molokini. Mikal and Maggie were so very lovely! Warm, thoughtful, and very knowledgeable, they made us feel like family. Upon arrival Mikal handed over a whale toy to my son, which he connected with and enjoyed throughout the trip. Their boat was much larger than I expected from the photos, and I really enjoyed hearing about their experience building it. Wonderful sunset trip to Molokini. We loved the gorgeous rock formation on the backside and the birdwatching on the slopes on the inside. It was great to be the only vessel present as well. Maui Pacific Divers gave us a fantastic experience on the water! They were very knowledgeable about the area (land and reefs) that we cruised by. We got to listen to the whales sing using their underwater microphone since whale season had already passed. Everyone dives the same ocean, and none of the dive shops get to reserve good weather, so none of that is material when picking a dive crew. The things that count are good people, a good boat and good gear. MPD has all three. I was late booking a trip, so I popped in to the kiosk at the dock and they were able to put me into the group the following day. We did a 2 tank dive in Lanai, First Cathedral and Fish Rock. They split the 7 of us (the boat is a 12 pack, so dive sites don't get overloaded) into two groups and pushed us overboard. Not really... The rental gear is in great shape, with newer BCs and air integrated computers, so bottom time is maximized (there is always someone who otherwise would be on tables). Entry is a giant stride and exit is a nice wide platform with two ladders. Food is good, with fruit coffee, Gatorade, water, and sandwiches, with brownie bites for dessert. At least on my trip it was. Under water, the dive masters kept the groups together and did a good job in pointing out some of the local less common sights. I have about 200 dives under my weight belt, everything from a semi luxury live aboard to DIY beach dives. You are not going to get towels out of the dryer here, and you are not going to get to lounge on the sun deck between dives. But you are getting good folks, high quality gear, and a fast boat that isn't going to drop you into the middle of tourist rush hour on the reef. We just got back from a truly amazing trip with Maui Pacific Divers! We did two dives, First Cathedral and Fish Rock. The boat was great. Probably fits 20 although today there were only 6 divers, plus 3 dive masters and a captain. Lunch was good, massive sandwiches and limitless drinks. Our first dive was one of the best I have ever done. 2 pods of dolphins, sharks, crazy swim thrus and more! The crew was great. Very friendly and took care of everything. Good safety gear and DAN O2 on board. One note, we booked the trip through "In 2 SCUBA" who told us what slip number to go to. When we arrived the staff at Maui Pacific Divers told us what had happened. I would recommend booking directly with Maui Pacific Divers and taking any 3rd parties out of the loop. read more

Water and gatorade was always available. After the second dive, brownies! Saw some amazing fish in the dive spot. Very exhilarating. Top notch new equipment. Very personable and friendly crew. I was also impressed with their seamanship skills and procedures. I am in the US Coast Guard Aux and I observed some excellent practices such as two way and three way communications, casting off and docking practices, pre-underway briefing and checklist. First, if you're using Maui Pacific Divers, and you're not going to dive Molokini, you're doing it wrong. This means doing the morning dive, but it's well worth it. If they then ask if you want to do another location for dive #2 that day, say "Why the hell would I do that?!" and dive the other side of Molokini. Now, the dive master, captain and crew are excellent. The boat's a little small, but that's actually a plus, as that means you'll have a divemaster for your group of 3 or 4, rather than 6 or so on larger boats. The equipment is top notch. No building your own weight belt, no crappy connectors that come open... best equipment I've seen. The food is ok, just sandwiches and fruit, but very good brownies! The one sticky point was price... it's gonna run $200 or so for 2 dives + equipment. This is Hawaii, however, not Mexico, so prices are just higher. Do NOT try to cheap out for the afternoon dive. A) you can't go to Molokini since it gets pretty choppy out there and B) see A. Seriously, unless you're a freak that lives and dies green turtles, dive Molokini, or just don't bother on Maui. read more

My fiancé and I completed our PADI certification with MPD while on a trip to Maui. Our dive instructor was Shad and he was absolutely incredible! Getting certified in Maui with MPD was seriously one of the best decisions we've ever made! Shad is extremely knowledgeable and made us feel very safe and comfortable during our dives. I liked that he took time to explain concepts and why we performed each skill. I truly feel that under his instruction my fiancé and I have learned how to practice safe diving techniques that we'll keep with us for as long as we continue to dive. As far as MPD as a dive shop, they are seriously top notch when it comes to customer service, equipment, and staff. As all the other reviewers have already noted, their equipment is excellent and I feel that we've become forever spoiled when it comes to dive gear. Ron was our captain and both he and McAle were very entertaining and just overall cool guys to go out to sea with. You really get the special attention because these guys don't have a huge boat that can fit 20 people. On one of our trips it was just the two of us! The whole boat all to ourselves! Seriously spoiled! All in all, excellent experience with an excellent dive shop and crew. I can't say enough good things about these guys. I'll definitely be looking them up when we return to the island, hopefully sooner than later. read more

Scuba diving was a good time. We booked the same day but they were able to accommodate us. They are a fairly new company so the trips out are with a small group, making the experience much more personal. They were able to tailor the experience to our individual needs which I thought was great. I'm not certified so I went on a discovery dive with two other people while my boyfriend, who is PADI certified, got a little more one-on-one experience with another dive instructor. It was my second time doing a discovery dive. The dive leader, Josh, was very patient and pretty funny making us all feel pretty comfortable before the dive. He was pretty good at checking to make sure everyone was okay while we were in the water and always tried to point out some cool things. We saw some sleeping sharks, a few interesting fishes, and a spotted eagle ray. My boyfriend was able to see some sea turtles and even got close enough to touch one. read more

My family and I just completed our dive certification on the mainland so Maui was our first stop. We chose MPD specifically because of the smaller boat size (we wanted a smaller group) and their proximity to our Ka'anapali resort. We did two trips, two dives each trip. Overall the experience was great. Most importantly I felt they ran a safe operation. They had good practices with safety briefing, roll calls before and after dives, etc. As for the diving we had four great experiences. We did the pier (Mala Pier?) and went to the cathedrals over at Lanai. Both were awesome. The crew was friendly, fun to be with, and took care of our somewhat nervous first-timers very well. We also had two young divers (12 and 13 years old) and they were treated with care and respect. The gear was immaculate, nearly new and functioned perfectly. They had weight integrated BC's and took care of loading them for us. It was really a full service dive. I can't compare to the other dive operations in the area, but compared to our experiences in Aruba and Mexico, this was night and day a better experience. Better equipment, better safety practices, fun people...what else can you ask for?? You can't go wrong with MPD. When we come back to Maui we will use them again without a doubt. read more

Well we booked early because scuba is one of the families favorite activities. Booked for Wednesday morning got there and their boat was broke and they said they had had to pull it out to fix it but they could reschedule. They called Thursday and said they had it fixed and could do Friday or Saturday we chose Saturday since we had another activity Friday. Then Friday at 5:30 pm they called to say it broke down again and now we are scrambling to find a scuba provider at the last minute and will likely loose out on our favorite activity. Save yourself the trouble as their apparently one and only boat is unreliable. So disappointed. read more

This dive boat is the best in Maui, staff has a great attitude, teach about all the types of fish, very informative on all aspects dive in general. I wouldn't look any further, josh the lead diver really works hard to make it an awesome experience. Really pleased with outcome as I went into this blind folded. Really enjoyed the dive day. Staff was great and the dive was very good. Quality equipment all around and the dive site was really cool. We did first cathedral and I can't remember the second one. Cathedral was a cool lava cave that offered a lot of corals and sea life. The second dive more about the sea life and the different species that could be there on any given day. Saw dolphins, turtles, a shark and an octopus that was very angry at our dive master for trying to get him out of his hiding place. Plenty to eat and drink. Great experience! The only thing I would say is it took an hour there and back which is something that I am not used too while diving. All in all would do again and1 I will be back. Thanks guys and gals. read more

Josh as well as rest of staff wonderful. A real lunch was served between dives not just sweet breakfast breads. They cancelled our lanai dive on Saturday due to rough conditions and we went to Mala pier/wharf and Olowalu instead. So happy he did that. Beautiful and much better for first dive of week. Later in the week we signed up again to go to Lanai. Much better that day for the long ride. We had personal one on one dive master experience. We were the only two on the boat each morning. None of this over cramped boat experience. We laughed and relaxed while seeing wonderful sights. josh is a great photographer that took tons of photos of us. No need to bring your own camera. Just relax and enjoy the dive!! There is no place better than here. We had two other dive shops cancel on us and another seemed like a meat factory trying to get us thru so we cancelled that place to do extra at Maui Pacific. I think I would even enjoy a long boat ride to Molokini with them as they are so great rather than driving to kehei. We are coming back. Please try them out. Want them to succeed. I hesitated in writing a review. Not because it was a bad experience, but because I was afraid the next time we came to the island they would be booked up! This was, by far, the best dive boat experience I've ever had. Josh, Mike and Captain McAle obviously love the water and diving...and it shows! We did 2 days and 4 dives with them, the first one my dad and I were the only ones on the boat - and so Josh got TONS of great pictures of the sea life and of us. We dove Carthingan and Mala Pier. 2 days later we came back with my husband and sister-in-law who snorkeled. That day, there were 2 other certified divers and 2 discover SCUBA divers, and it was so much fun to see people experience SCUBA for the first time! Between dives we had great fresh fruit and drinks. The boat is almost brand new, as is the equipment...I even did my first dive the second day with the caution sticker still on the goggles!!! If you are certified, a snorkeler, or considering becoming certified, you NEED to book with MPD!!! read more

I can only base this review on their service, as our trip was canceled today due to a mechanical failure of the boat. We showed up at the Lahaina Harbor after not getting a call back when we called to confirm. We paid $16 for 6 hr parking lot and arrived at slip 16 to an empty desk. A printout with our names, phone numbers and on-island addresses were there. After we waited, the Parasailing kiosk manager called the shop owner. We waited a bit longer and someone from the shop showed up and told us someone was supposed to have been there to tell us that the trip was cancelled due to a mechanical issue with the boat. It was too late to find other five companies as they were either full or had already left. I understand that mechanicals happen, but they had our numbers and should have called before we drove down there, paid for parking and given up half our day. They only had to call two people since there were only two parties (group of 3 and 4) who showed up. Then again, maybe that was their reason for cancellation. We went with Lahaina Divers. Thanks to Mike and Josh for the great diving experience. They took three generations of us (myself, son, and two grand kids, neither were certified). The TLC Josh showed the kids was worth every penny, and the special attention to detail Mike expressed, especially with his "event photographing" skills was exemplary.
