Such a unique, wonderful time!! We booked as a private group of 4 for the beginner off-shore diving experience, as it was everyone's first time diving. Our instructor Sean was amazing!! Your first scuba experience may feel quite daunting (it was for me!) but your instructor goes over all the equipment, safety measures, and hand signals to know--that you are also required to go over in your online course, so helpful! LEADING UP TO YOUR DIVE: A lot of the prep comes before you even arrive for your dive: the online info courses and waivers (took about 20-35 min) and inputting the height and weight of each diver, so once we were ready to start heading to the beach, Dive Maui quickly got us into our wet suits, and later quickly had us fit for our masks, oxygen tanks, and weights for the vest. The indoor area where they go over the info and where you put on your wet suits also have a bathroom you can use before and after which was helpful to have a place to change afterwards. They don't have lockers or a designated place to leave your stuff, but it did kind of feel safe if you're just leaving a bag of clothes or shoes when you dive; overall, I'd recommend coming with less stuff though unless you have someone to hold your things. THE EXPERIENCE: 10/10 but that is just speaking for me LOL we got to see so much wildlife in their space: so many different kinds of fish, schools of fish cleaning off turtles (we saw around 10 turtles!), we caught to briefly look at 2 sharks chilling on the ocean floor, and saw a flounder fish in the sand. At one point, I was swimming alongside a turtle!! We had someone in our group who was not as strong a swimmer and was more nervous with all the gear so they had a harder time enjoying the experience, but our instructor was really good and intentional with making sure they were okay and walked with them slower through the experience. Otherwise, we overall really enjoyed the experience and have no regrets! It definitely feels like you get to see more of Maui's wildlife beauty in its natural place, as opposed to the more touristy, marketed Hawaii. They recommend all divers be a strong swimmer, to expand on this--as long as you are comfortable maneuvering yourself in the water (would you be able to quickly change direction if you notice you're drifting into coral or , able to swim deeper and manage how deep or shallow you stay in the water--no need to be on a swim team--it is not about speed or being able to literally dive LOL IMPORTANT: our booking did not do shallow water training at a pool or at the shore before going down to practice our skills test (how to blow water out of your mask, practicing what to do when our breather comes out of our mouth, clearing our sinuses, checking our oxygen tanks and responding to our instructor with correct hand signals of our oxygen level). So we knew we were going to practice these skills, but it can definitely be scary since you go 20 feet down and then do the skills. Yes, you need to be a decent swimmer, but I think it's more important you think about if you can stay calm and trust your instructor and the skills they are teaching you--the entire experience of using the gear and being 20-30 feet underwater takes some time to get used to, so make sure you are okay with knowing that you don't get shallow water training and can stay calm and remember to take deep breaths as you get used to breathing through your mouth only and blowing water out when you can't breathe in, rather than panicking. If you are typically able to pick up new skills and can stay calm under pressure, then totally try scuba diving!! Dive Maui will keep you safe! We parked in the nearby lot near the grocery stores. When you register, they give parking suggestions and specify where not to park to make sure you won't get a ticket or get towed parking in private spots. It would be great if they were able to have a photographer or camera to catch a few pics during the experience. Even if they charged for the pictures, that's one I would (and think many people would) pay for! especially since not many people want to bring their phone or have underwater cameras to bring along with them, let alone having to figure out how they want to hold or attach it to their gear with them (not even sure if they allow this) read more

I have done a dive in the past with this company and they were great so wanted to try whale watching. We were greeted with a smile from the staff once we found the hidden check in lol. (LAHAINA STRONG) When we got on our boat it we were met with the same excellent hospitality from Joe the captain and Renee the first mate! They listened to everyone who spotted whales, plus they spotted several of course. We even got "mugged" by two whales who apparently thought our boat was cool. (Mugging is when the whales hang out very close to the boat and you can not move the boat). I am sure Renee got some great gopro video because I did and she had a long pole for hers. We also had them spy hop us and later had a baby breach near the boat. Overall one of the best whale watching trips I have been on and I have taken a lot! Sorry I could not upload video. read more

On a very last minute trip, Dive Maui got us in for several shore dives which turned out to be the best we've done on Maui. Brian is the guide to guide to go with - he's fast, efficient and no fluff. This week we saw lots of sharks, eagle rays, puffer fish, octopus and of course turtles turtles turtles! The wharf dive site is just like an under water aquarium. Phenomenal, especially on a good vis day with lots of sun. Stunning. The dives shop leaves something to be desired. Pretty gnarly conditions. read more

We went on a whale watching tour with these guys and it was great! The captain and guide were super nice, chill, and knowledgeable. The boat was a great size and there were not too many people on the boat. They worked very hard to get us on whales late in the season and then we had the opportunity of a lifetime...at least for a tourist. We got to get up close and personal with a whale! Just see the pics and videos. They told me to make sure that everyone know this is not a guarantee and is rare to happen...:). We highly recommend these guys! read more

I did the discover dive at Mala last year and just did 2 more dives for certified divers (Mala and Black Rock) this year, all with Joe as our divemaster. Since we stayed in Ka'anapali, this was a quick 10 minute drive to the dive shop. Mala Pier is easily our favorite dive site in Hawaii as of yet. We've had really great experiences with Dive Maui and with Joe. The groups have consistently been small (4-5 of us total) which is great. We don't have any of our own equipment yet so it's nice that all the diving gear is included in our cost. For 2 dives for 2 people it was around $385 + tip. Definitely a pricey activity but so much to see which is why we have gone back to Mala twice. Diving with Dive Maui was super fun! I'm from California where we have to set up all of our own gear and navigate alone - so I loooove the "princess diving" experience here. They have everything prepped and ready for you by the time you arrive. You'll sign a waiver and then take a short walk to the boat ramp. The boat is small and bumpy so make sure you take motion sickness meds before you arrive. We did the Cathedral I dive off Lanai - saw a pod of 200+ spinner dolphins on the way out which was sooo cool. The cathedrals themselves are absolutely stunning. We got to dive our entire tank which I love - so much better than time limits. Our whole group had great consumption so we had 60 minute dives on both drops. I got seasick and the team was incredibly helpful even though I was unwell. I really appreciate the extra effort to make sure I was okay. Would absolutely come back to dive with Dive Maui - and especially after the fires, it feels nice to support the community read more

Diving in Lahaina is just unfortunately Different post fire. The harbor is closed and my favorite Dive Shop (Lahaina Divers) and their two boats were lost in the fire. Dive Maui was so great in helping to not only get people back in the water from Mala Wharf which is a mile from the Lahaina Harbor but they went the extra mile and hired many dive guides and instructors from Lahaina Divers. I have been out now with Dive Maui many times and it's truly been great! Its my new happy place and everyone I go diving with feels the same. A few weeks ago I did a few shore dives with David. He is so nice and so knowledgeable and just a super nice guy that you want to dive with him a million times! The whole team at Dive Maui is great and I highly recommend them anytime you are in West Maui for some great diving! read more

Had a really nice time on the Discovery Dive with Dive Maui in Lahaina. My wife learned to scuba dive for the first time which was really exciting for her. Our dive instructor, Matt, did a very good job of getting everyone comfortable and in the water. There was one gal who ended up backing out, and he helped her back to the beach and took good care of her. The other three of us had a very good dive together. We dove over along north side of Black Rock, and saw a lot of fish (schools of them) and many corals along the rock formations. Highly recommend this dive company and Matt. read more

Poor customer service and not great dives. The people seem inconvenienced by questions, not at all what I'm used to with other dives centers. They should update their dive sites as these were the least interesting or inhabited I've ever done. One dive was mostly sand- saw maybe 20 fish which is fewer than when I'm just hanging out on the beach. Save your money and snorkel at any one of the many lovely beaches. read more

We had a wonderful experience getting back in the water with Abbi and the rest of the Dive Maui team last week. My wife and I were on our first empty nester trip in 17 years, so we needed a refresher dive first. Abbi took us on the Turtle cleaning/shark shore dive at Mala pier. We had a blast blowing bubbles at 29 feet while being surrounded by turtles and fish. WOW! The next day we took the boat to Lanai and had two dives at 65 feet, including the Catherdal (#1). Enjoyed the experience of sliding off the boat and dropping down into the deep. Abbi was a great guide. We look forward to our next Maui trip, so we can get back in the water with Dive Maui. We dove Mala Warf as a shore dive, then another day booked again for the boat ride to Cathedrals on Lanai. All dive sites were amazing for different reasons! Scott took excellent care of us with a great sense of humor. Mala Warf is a MUST SEE! Even though it was a shore dive, I think we saw the most sea life of all the dives we did. Also, SO many turtles. Lanai was fascinating because of all the underwater formations! Lots of tunnels and caves filled with fish and eels and a completely unique experience to swim through a hole with the surge helping you! "First" Cathedral was simply mesmerizing! Went with my girlfriend early in the morning and we had a GREAT time! Renee was our guide and Chris was the captain steering the boat and they were both very friendly, informative and overall made sure we all had a good time. We got really lucky this trip and a whale (her name is Cricket) came right up to our boat and swam around us and even splashed us. They said that this is a rare occasion but it has happened to them a handful of times before over any other boat that they've seen. I would highly recommend them! Also, they did mention that hotels and others are saying that there are no whale watching tours happening out of Lahaina at the moment, but they are still open! They are also a locally run Lahaina company so go support them! read more

On our trip to Maui we booked the cathedral dive and it lived up to the hype! We had Abby as our dive instructor and she was so kind and knowledgeable! She told us all about the fish that we would see and even did a little trick with one of her fish friends! I was unfortunately sea sick most of the trip since the swells were really bad but she made sure I felt comfortable and had a blast regardless. For years I have been diving with Lahaina Divers, but horribly they were destroyed by the Lahaina fire. So, when I was on Maui last week, I had to find a new dive operation. I spent two days diving with the crew at Dive Maui, and I can't say enough good things about their first rate operation! Abbey was the guide I was with. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of marine life is spectacular! She is also safety conscious but not overbearing at all. Abbey was a pleasure to dive with! Captain Joe was awesome. He too was extremely safety conscious, and down to earth. Spent some time in good conversations with him during those couple of days. I did not get a chance to dive with the other guide Dave, but I will say he is cool people. He is friendly and seems to be a great dive guide. I'm told Nick is the owner. I would have never known unless someone had mentioned it. He was flying under the radar and super friendly. In my active 47 years of diving, I have seen a lot of different operations. Dive Maui is one of the great ones. If you go to Maui and want to have some fun, safe and memorable dive trips, look them up! I will book with them again next time I'm on Island! Mahalo! We visited last month and went on the Wharf Shark and Turtle dive. It did NOT disappoint! We're certified divers and were very pleased that the variety of wildlife we were able to see. Joe, our divemaster, was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable on the overview of the area we were diving. The only complaint would have been the longer walk to the pier with all of our gear on. My partner (who is scuba certified) and I (who am not) did a Discovery Dive with Joe while in Maui about a week and a half ago at Mala Wharf. It was SO AWESOME. Joe was great at reiterating all of the content that I had read up on prior to our dive, and making sure I was confident in the equipment and hand signals. The dive itself was so cool--we saw some turtles, sharks, and a ton of fish and coral. Our dive was about 35minutes or so, and I'd highly recommend it. I'll definitely be doing that again. read more

I Was diving with Abbi and she turned Rocks over for two wassers fish and they found critters to eat under rocks. One wasser found a snail and with the Snail in its mouth started slapping the Snail on another rock to crack its shell to eat the contents in snail shell. On the way back to the shop Captain Joe spotted a mother whale and calf playing so he slowed the boat so we could watch them play. Fun day read more

Best diving place in Maui by far! I did 5 dives in a week with 2 different shops and Dive Maui was so amazing, I signed up for another dive later in the week. This was my first dive after getting certified and I got to admit I was nervous to take the plunge (so to speak). Gu was by far the best guide and quickly made my nerves as ease INSTANTLY! I signed up for the Mala Warf shore dive and couldn't believe the wildlife and scenery. Gu had us going through caves within the first 5 minutes of the dive..after that I felt I could do anything. Having a good guide makes all the world. We saw one of the biggest frog fishes and a white tip shark hiding out in a cave. He showed us 2 turtle cleaning stations and tons of rare types of fish. He has a water proof board and writes the fish that he sees so there is no need to guess or try to remember at the end of the dive. My second trip was with Brooke who took us to 2nd Cathedral and Shark Fin. If you book one trip while at Maui, you got to go here. This was breadth taking (I know hard to do with a tank of oxygen). We dove into caves and the light coming from top was truly amazing. Tons of fish everywhere it was hard hard to count. This was my first trip into a whole new diving world and I'm glad I chose Dive Maui. I'm hooked and will be visiting again. Thanks Gu and Brooke for your patience. read more
