A huge shout out to Kevin at Banyan Tree Divers! My family of four had an unforgettable experience becoming open water PADI certified under his guidance. He shines as an instructor, with an accommodating and encouraging nature. He inspired confidence in us every step of the way, which made an especially big impact on my 10 yo who was pretty nervous about the whole thing. I can't recommend Keven enough, especially if you're new to diving as my family and I were.

I used Banyan Tree Divers Maui for a private guide, 2 tank dive. Chelsea was outstanding. She was very relaxed, friendly and tailored my dives to help me work on a couple skills I wanted to improve. She took me to 2 great locations, (Airport Beach and Maha Wharf.) Also, her photos turned out great. The equipment was almost new. I highly recommend them

Did the beginner scuba dive with Kevin at Kahekili Beach Park and had a wonderful experience! This was my first time back in scuba gear in 40 years and Kevin was very patient and knowledgeable. His demeanor put you at ease. The gear was all in great condition and had no issues on the dives (did another). The reef was teaming with a wide variety of fish but also saw turtles, an eagle ray and an octopus. It was an excellent experience, well worth the money, and I highly recommend Kevin and Banyan Tree Divers.

The guide is super nice and knowledgeable and he took awesome pictures of my dive! I highly recommend going through Banyan Tree Divers to do your first dive or get certified.

This is our second time in Maui and our second time diving with Banyan Tree Divers. I cannot say enough about how kind, courteous and safe they are! They know all of the greatest dive spots and they go out of their way to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves!

A serendipitous find for me during a stormy week here in Maui. I usually try to snorkel here but was recommended to try out the Banyan tree divers and MAN. It was so worth it. A family run business with four tight instructors. Each group is maxed at 4 pol per instructor. No previous diving experience required. My instructor Mike took a lot of time to ensure everyone was comfortable as well as safe. You can see the entire crew work really well together and look out for each other. They were both extremely professional and totally laid back. I went for two dives and would so it again. The mala pier dive was absolutely amazing. Gorgeous. Saw so many turtles, tons of fish, an eel, an octopus, a squid! and a few sharks. Dont worry they were chillin on the bottom of the ocean, and with the vest and tank you appear bigger than normal. The instructor had chatted about reef sharks so I was able to keep my cool. Now that I look back, its incredible to have seen sharks in nature alongside all the other sea creatures, all living side by side amidst this fallen pier ecosystem. It was a religious experience in a sense. I would absolutely dive with this company again and recommend them hands down.

Great diving experience. Chris was our guide for the two-tank dive. There were a couple of glitches with some of the other divers not being fully prepared and he handled it like a pro. Always calm and relaxed and made sure everyone was safe. The 2nd dive at Mala wharf was amazing. Schools of turtles, two white-tipped reef sharks and two moray eels (one that swam underneath me for about 10 feet). The only caveat is that they are based in Lahaina and if you are staying in Wailea or Kihei, it's a bit challenging for transportation if you don't have your own car ( like sharing a family car).

I had such a wonderful experience scuba diving with Banyan Tree Divers during my honeymoon in Maui. I did two dives: Kahekili Beach and the Mala Pier. We saw several sea turtles, fishes, an octopus, sea urchins, bright coral and two white tip sharks, everything was so beautiful and another reminder of the amazing world that exists in the sea! Scuba diving is such an incredible, life changing activity, and I was so happy to have been able to get to do it again. Everyone should do it at least once for the intimate look at the ocean habitat. Our dive instructor, Shane, was very kind and knowledgeable, and has a keen eye for spotting cool sea life - like the rare octopus he spotted. And definitely add on the photography/video package, so worth it! :)

Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime experience! My instructor, Jen, was absolutely amazing. Her instructions were clear and direct, which is helpful when you're trying to breathe underwater in the ocean for the first time. She was clearly knowledgable about the area and we saw so much interesting wildlife on our dives. The once in a lifetime experience was the baby turtle who adopted us as it's mommy! 12/10 would dive with Jen and Banyan Tree Divers again!

Can't say enough great things about our experience diving with Banyan Tree! My partner and I are both certified divers but extremely out of practice (like over 15 years since we had been out) We took a pool refresher back home but still needed a very basic beginner dive on island. Abby was amazing to work with, she made us feel so comfortable and safe. We had two incredibly fun dives and can't wait to come back!

    Attentive dive instructor, Abby.

Such a unique, wonderful time!! We booked as a private group of 4 for the beginner off-shore diving…read moreexperience, as it was everyone's first time diving. Our instructor Sean was amazing!! Your first scuba experience may feel quite daunting (it was for me!) but your instructor goes over all the equipment, safety measures, and hand signals to know--that you are also required to go over in your online course, so helpful! LEADING UP TO YOUR DIVE: A lot of the prep comes before you even arrive for your dive: the online info courses and waivers (took about 20-35 min) and inputting the height and weight of each diver, so once we were ready to start heading to the beach, Dive Maui quickly got us into our wet suits, and later quickly had us fit for our masks, oxygen tanks, and weights for the vest. The indoor area where they go over the info and where you put on your wet suits also have a bathroom you can use before and after which was helpful to have a place to change afterwards. They don't have lockers or a designated place to leave your stuff, but it did kind of feel safe if you're just leaving a bag of clothes or shoes when you dive; overall, I'd recommend coming with less stuff though unless you have someone to hold your things. THE EXPERIENCE: 10/10 but that is just speaking for me LOL we got to see so much wildlife in their space: so many different kinds of fish, schools of fish cleaning off turtles (we saw around 10 turtles!), we caught to briefly look at 2 sharks chilling on the ocean floor, and saw a flounder fish in the sand. At one point, I was swimming alongside a turtle!! We had someone in our group who was not as strong a swimmer and was more nervous with all the gear so they had a harder time enjoying the experience, but our instructor was really good and intentional with making sure they were okay and walked with them slower through the experience. Otherwise, we overall really enjoyed the experience and have no regrets! It definitely feels like you get to see more of Maui's wildlife beauty in its natural place, as opposed to the more touristy, marketed Hawaii. They recommend all divers be a strong swimmer, to expand on this--as long as you are comfortable maneuvering yourself in the water (would you be able to quickly change direction if you notice you're drifting into coral or , able to swim deeper and manage how deep or shallow you stay in the water--no need to be on a swim team--it is not about speed or being able to literally dive LOL IMPORTANT: our booking did not do shallow water training at a pool or at the shore before going down to practice our skills test (how to blow water out of your mask, practicing what to do when our breather comes out of our mouth, clearing our sinuses, checking our oxygen tanks and responding to our instructor with correct hand signals of our oxygen level). So we knew we were going to practice these skills, but it can definitely be scary since you go 20 feet down and then do the skills. Yes, you need to be a decent swimmer, but I think it's more important you think about if you can stay calm and trust your instructor and the skills they are teaching you--the entire experience of using the gear and being 20-30 feet underwater takes some time to get used to, so make sure you are okay with knowing that you don't get shallow water training and can stay calm and remember to take deep breaths as you get used to breathing through your mouth only and blowing water out when you can't breathe in, rather than panicking. If you are typically able to pick up new skills and can stay calm under pressure, then totally try scuba diving!! Dive Maui will keep you safe! We parked in the nearby lot near the grocery stores. When you register, they give parking suggestions and specify where not to park to make sure you won't get a ticket or get towed parking in private spots. It would be great if they were able to have a photographer or camera to catch a few pics during the experience. Even if they charged for the pictures, that's one I would (and think many people would) pay for! especially since not many people want to bring their phone or have underwater cameras to bring along with them, let alone having to figure out how they want to hold or attach it to their gear with them (not even sure if they allow this)

(LAHAINA STRONG) When we got on our boat it we were met with the same excellent hospitality from Joe the captain and Renee the first mate! They listened to everyone who spotted whales, plus they spotted several of course. We even got "mugged" by two whales who apparently thought our boat was cool. (Mugging is when the whales hang out very close to the boat and you can not move the boat). I am sure Renee got some great gopro video because I did and she had a long pole for hers. We also had them spy hop us and later had a baby breach near the boat. Overall one of the best whale watching trips I have been on and I have taken a lot! Sorry I could not upload video.

This was my first time diving post-Covid and I couldn't have sailed with a better crew. Matt, Jess,…read moreJT, Brian, and our captain Brad were all amazing people to dive with. Matt and Brian were both amazing divemasters, both very accommodating to our entire party of divers. Matt will ask you what your favorite song is; be prepared to have one picked out, because you may hear it come on when some whales breach nearby (like what happened to me). Brad is the quintessential captain; he makes his boat so inviting you just want to stay there and hang out even after your dive is over. I was able to dive Lanai Cathedrals and Hammerhead. The former is a must for divers of any skill level for anyone that hasn't experienced it. Taking in the sights of shafts of light in super clear waters inside a coral enclosure is akin to a religious experience, so the cathedral moniker is fitting. The latter is very much a dive for advanced divers with a lot of dives logged under their belt. Dive conditions are notoriously windy/choppy/heavy currents, however we were fortunate that none of those were true. Absolutely perfect conditions, but even then you should be prepared for a potentially strenuous drift dive. It's off-season for Hammerheads, so we didn't see any, but this wasn't at all a problem. There's no denying how amazing it is to dive along a sheer coral cliff face like The Finger and some dolphins came to say hi on our dive. Diving off Moloka'i (where the Hammerhead dive is) is an absolute privilege no matter what sealife you encounter. Brian, our divemaster for Hammerhead, is exactly the kind of divemaster you want for an advanced dive by making sure everyone's head is in the right space: if you uphold your end of the bargain in taking this seriously by paying attention to your oxygen and no deco (and in an advanced dive, the quality of everyone's experience truly hinges on everyone taking every element of the dive very seriously), you'll have exactly the kind of laid back experience you came for. Where Lahaina Divers went above and beyond is they accommodated a family emergency that forced me to cancel my other two dives on VERY short notice, no questions asked (note to any travelers staying in the Napili area: the closest emergency room is a 45 minute drive away!). Thankfully all is well, but I absolutely needed to be available and couldn't make those dives, and it was no sweat at all to get that situated. I left some camera gear on the boat for my second dive, and Brad reached out to let me know I could pick it up at the shop. After everything that happened after that second dive, gotta tell ya, you really appreciate that level of care and consideration. Sure enough, I popped in later on and got my gear easy peasy. It's been 10 years since I've set foot on Maui and thus dove with Lahaina Divers, but fingers crossed I'll be back much sooner (and can keep all my reservations booked!).

I scheduled the class a few months in advance, and they even advertised it to recruit another student (after all, you can't rescue yourself!). I learned from the best--Kerri is a true expert in both diving and instruction. He is incredibly patient and explains concepts clearly. He took the time to answer all of our questions and really instilled the importance of dive safety--that anything can happen at any time, and you always need to stay aware, especially in and around the water. We practiced multiple real-life rescue scenarios in the water, which made the training feel practical and incredibly valuable. I learned so many important skills from Kerri--both ones I hope I never have to use and others that I will carry with me on every dive going forward. I look forward to diving with Kerri and the Maui Dreams crew the next time I'm on Maui!

After that, the owner was very cold and curt with me for a couple of months and I finally asked why. I got yelled at for 15 minutes over that social media post and during that time I was insulted, had my ethics questioned, and was threatened with a ban from the shop once my tank rental card was used up. This was the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life, to get excoriated by the shop's owner over a post I made about a different dive operation. I will no longer give this shop my business. The owner will likely respond that this was not a customer service experience with their services, like rentals, retail, etc., however a few months ago, I tried to get my divemaster certification renewed prior to the above event, and they could not even get it together to give me a price or a possible schedule with the owner referring me to the instructor and the instructor referring me to the owner. Rinse. Repeat. It was the most frustrating and unprofessional PADI training experience I ever had. And when I did my MFA/CPR certification with them, the CPR dummies did not have batteries (or they had exploded from disuse) so they were totally unprepared on the day of the course. And during the course I had the displeasure of watching the instructor mumble through the cheat sheet on his phone, covering unnecessarily what I had already gone over in the eLearning, and they very inappropriately shared with me a personal medical emergency example that involved an emergency heart issue arising from solo use of viagra. So very unprofessional. Granted that instructor no longer works at this shop, having quit or been fired shortly after that MFA/CPR course. I finally got my divemaster cert renewed with an independent instructor without any hassle. Why was it so easy for them and so hard for the shop? Also note, that after I got my divemaster cert renewed the owner reached out to me to see if I was interested in a job and seemed very enthusiastic about the prospect of me working for them. We met and I declined to work for them as I still had full time work. So any aspersions the owner may cast on my character after this review should be viewed with that in mind.

These were refresher dives for our group, and Gu handled them exactly right. He quickly assessed each diver's experience, our small group included both newer divers with fewer than ten dives and others with more than 70, but with time since our last dives. His review of fundamentals, safety, and buoyancy control was clear and structured, without slowing the group down. He also reinforced reef etiquette and respect for marine life in a practical, no-nonsense way. This team takes responsible diving seriously. What stood out most was Gu's site knowledge. Not just which sites to choose, but where to position within each site to maximize visibility and encounters. He set expectations on what we might see, spotted eagle rays, green sea turtles, white-tip reef sharks, snowflake moray eels, and more, and then delivered. We saw all of it. With two divers carrying cameras, he was mindful of positioning, and I came away with great shots of eagle rays, reef sharks, and multiple turtles. The highlight was a turtle cleaning station at Mala Wharf, with six turtles active at once and eagle rays passing nearby. It was one of those rare dives where something meaningful is happening in every direction. The attached photo captures that exact moment, multiple turtles gathered at the cleaning station with eagle rays moving through the scene. Operationally, everything was tight: * Strong safety culture and clear briefings * Efficient check-in and gear handling * Well-maintained equipment * Good pacing, no rushing, no wasted time * Attentive in-water supervision without being intrusive * Effective group management for mixed experience levels If you are traveling to Hawaii with limited dive windows, this is the operator you want. They remove uncertainty and maximize your chances of a memorable dive. Highly recommend Extended Horizons, and Gu as your guide.

We absolutely loved our experience diving with Gu and Ty!! We were a little rusty, but Gu reviewed…read moreeverything with us and we felt completely comfortable. He also prepped us with details about the animals we were likely to see and fun info about their behaviors so we knew what to look for - we saw rays, turtles, moray eels, and an octopus! We did two shore dives at Airport Beach and the team did a great job of adjusting the plan given some areas of reduced visibility after the recent severe storm, so we still had an amazing experience. Gu knew every detail of the reef so knew exactly where to take us. Everyone we interacted with including the instructors and the people we spoke to about scheduling were kind, flexible, and informative. We hear they'll have their boat up and running this summer - when we come back to Maui we will definitely sign up for another dive with this crew!!
