Great beach dive in Kaanapali! Banyan Tree Divers brought all of the equipment we needed and I got a little refresher because I had not been diving in a few years. Shane was our fearless leader for two amazing dives on our Maui trip. My wife and I split our dives so that the other one could snorkel with our 9yo. I have now been on 2 dives (before and after fire and business loss) with Banyan. Both times with beginner and novice divers. My parents and I had a great experience with Kevin today. We did their Beginner Scuba Dive as a refresher course since we are certified divers but a little rusty. We added on a second dive. Both dives were shore dives from the beach in Kaanapali, which was a fun new twist as we'd never done shore dives. I liked that the shore dives let us get water, snacks, and bathroom access on dry land without having to worry about seasickness. And the reef is right off the beach. We are pleased to have seen a giant sea turtle, a couple rays, and lots of fish, as well as heard whale calls in the distance. Kevin had the most amazing positive attitude, expert knowledge, and deep experience. He also had all brand new gear which was nice. read more

Banyan Tree Divers is exceptionally well run. Timely and prompt communications (from Caitlin). These folks suffered the loss of their physical business in the Lahaina fires. Now they arrange to meet you at the dive location (airport beach in Ka'anapali). Simon was my dive instructor and did a thorough briefing and set us up with all new equipment. We had a big group but he managed it well. Explained the process of getting in over the shore break as well as vividly describing the dive to come. Did the beginner scuba dive with Kevin at Kahekili Beach Park and had a wonderful experience! This was my first time back in scuba gear in 40 years and Kevin was very patient and knowledgeable. His demeanor put you at ease. The gear was all in great condition and had no issues on the dives (did another). The reef was teaming with a wide variety of fish but also saw turtles, an eagle ray and an octopus. Instead we dove Airport beach. We saw a wide assortment of fish and fauna and the pictures taken were great. Kaitlan is a knowledgeable and easy going guide. Great diving experience. Chris was our guide for the two-tank dive. There were a couple of glitches with some of the other divers not being fully prepared and he handled it like a pro. Always calm and relaxed and made sure everyone was safe. The 2nd dive at Mala wharf was amazing. Schools of turtles, two white-tipped reef sharks and two moray eels (one that swam underneath me for about 10 feet). The only caveat is that they are based in Lahaina and if you are staying in Wailea or Kihei, it's a bit challenging for transportation if you don't have your own car ( like sharing a family car). read more

A serendipitous find for me during a stormy week here in Maui. I usually try to snorkel here but was recommended to try out the Banyan tree divers and MAN. It was so worth it. A family run business with four tight instructors. Each group is maxed at 4 pol per instructor. No previous diving experience required. My instructor Mike took a lot of time to ensure everyone was comfortable as well as safe. You can see the entire crew work really well together and look out for each other. They were both extremely professional and totally laid back. I went for two dives and would so it again. The mala pier dive was absolutely amazing. Gorgeous. Saw so many turtles, tons of fish, an eel, an octopus, a squid! and a few sharks. Dont worry they were chillin on the bottom of the ocean, and with the vest and tank you appear bigger than normal. The instructor had chatted about reef sharks so I was able to keep my cool. Now that I look back, its incredible to have seen sharks in nature alongside all the other sea creatures, all living side by side amidst this fallen pier ecosystem. It was a religious experience in a sense. I would absolutely dive with this company again and recommend them hands down. read more

I had such a wonderful experience scuba diving with Banyan Tree Divers during my honeymoon in Maui. I did two dives: Kahekili Beach and the Mala Pier. We saw several sea turtles, fishes, an octopus, sea urchins, bright coral and two white tip sharks, everything was so beautiful and another reminder of the amazing world that exists in the sea! Scuba diving is such an incredible, life changing activity, and I was so happy to have been able to get to do it again. Everyone should do it at least once for the intimate look at the ocean habitat. Our dive instructor, Shane, was very kind and knowledgeable, and has a keen eye for spotting cool sea life - like the rare octopus he spotted. After about an hour of finding out about our previous dive experiences and equipment review, we left for our shore dive at Airport beach. The beach entry was fairly simple, and Abby focused on my wife who was a bit unsure of her skills (clearing her mask and getting proper buoyancy). I watched as Abby took a very calm approach to helping my wife complete the skills we reviewed in our dive briefing. As soon as our dive got underway, we saw turtles. I was fortunate to get my Advanced Open Water Certification from Kevin at Banyan Tree Divers. Our scheduled days had in climate weather conditions and we rescheduled for a better day. I was impressed that they put safety ahead of profits! When weather conditions improved Kevin did an amazing job of a detailed dive plans for each dive. Amazing scuba company -- one of the best in my 16 years of diving! Caitlin and Kevin are super down to earth, very communicative online, friendly (to humans and the environment!), and just cool to hang out with. Did 2 dives with Caitlin as our guide, and Mala Pier/Boat Ramp was one of the best dives I've ever done. Extraordinary color and amount of marine life.... we saw at least 20 turtles, plus eels, nudibranch, and more. There was a LOT going on and a lot to see! Caitlin also took fantastic photos which are always a great memory to have, so I purchased those. This is a young company with very conscientious and caring owners, and I highly recommend them! What a great experience! We chose Banyan Tree after doing some research on local businesses. They are family owned and excited about what they do. We prefer a small guide-to-diver ratio and Banyan did that for us. Abby was our Dive Master for our 2-tank day at airport and Mala...she admitted to having over 9000 collective dives from around the world... which explains why she treated every creature down there like she was popping in on old friends. She took lots of photos and could tell us who was who in the zoo without question. She knew who was hiding where and waved us in to inspect even the tiniest of creatures. She'd have us pause and listen for whales too. At one point, Abby swam over to a coral outcropping flipped upside down and peaked under a ledge. Well, I was game and popped my head in next. I got an amazing eye to eye look at the most beautiful moray eel! All green and sassy, but so chill and mysterious. Pretty sure Abby invited him/her to her house later for coffee...he/she wasn't letting on though. Around the other side of the outcropping was what I thought was a tiny sea fan... but when she showed me the pic later, turns out it was a scorpion fish. Like I said, she really has a relationship with the undersea world. Mala won the day though. I was super skeptical about a sunken wharf...nothing I love more than garbage in the water....but whoa.... What a dive!!! Sharks. Turtles. Creatures everywhere. The wharf was coated with coral and life! The sharks were so amazing, sliding around and through openings. We could have sat at the turtle washing station alllllll day. Problem was, I was so excited that I didn't manage my air well and ended up having to swim out too soon. We really wish we'd signed up for a 3 tank dive. What a truly wonder site! Thank you Banyan Tree and Abby Griffiths! You were a true pleasure to learn from!!! read more

Was a little skeptical when we rolled up to the address which was in a residential neighborhood; however, staff were super friendly. Discover SCUBA was limited to 4 divers per instructor, which was great for personalized attention, particularly for a child doing it for the first time. My husband and I lucked out due to another party's cancellation and were able to book a dive with Banyan Tree within a few days. It was my first time diving. I'm a strong swimmer and very comfortable with ocean swimming and snorkeling. We dove with two other people we didn't know and Caitlin was our instructor. After a 30 minute talk drove to the dive site (15 minutes away - they helped arrange a ride for us), and we suited up and walked a short distance to the beach and got in the water. The first bit was hard for me due to not being able to breath with my nose, I kind of freaked out (even though just floating on the surface) but Caitlin was super awesome. I followed her directions and focused mind over matter on her instructions and we commenced our dive. She's an outstanding instructors, SUPER safe, encouraging, attentive and knows just what to say based on experience to get beginner divers to successfully complete the dive! We practiced all the safety measures before we went to the reef. Spent about 45 minutes in the water. Great fun, I recommend. I did get a little nauseous toward the end but that went away soon enough. I also did find it to be mentally challenging (apparently common for the first few dives) in that it was mentally uncomfortable to know that I was breathing under water. The bubbles and the mouth breathing was harder than expected to mentally overcome but I did it and am glad that I did. I think if I had opportunities to do it again and get certified that could be fun. Thank you Caitlin! You're an amazing instructor! read more

Thad an unforgettable experience with my instructor Jen! It was my very first time scuba diving and lhad a bit of trouble getting used to breathing underwater at first and had a mini panic attack. Jen was very patient and attentive and most of all very encouraging and empathetic. was able to overcome my fear and anxiety and had two wonderful dives! She took me to see sharks (I mentioned I was sad I didn't get to see the sharks during my snorkelling tour a few days before while others saw them) and sea turtles and octopus, we also saw trumpetfish and frogfish too :)) Jen was so personable and sweet, she even gave me a personal recommendation for best poke in town too (it was delicious!). I was able to rinse off at the headquarter and bought myself a tank top for a souvenir so I can always remember and carry this wonderful experience with me. Let me start this one off with I was the least experienced diver and least experienced swimmer on our dive. I was assured by my friends I could pull this off since I was someone who enjoyed snorkeling. I was so nervous after committing to the dive that someone had set up but was assured Kev and Caitlin were awesome instructors. Pulling up to the shore dive location - I was ready to bail. I didn't want "to be that guy" holding the group back and spoiling it for others. Within 5 minutes of talking with Caitlin and Kev - I felt WAY better. After some Dry land orientation training and top notch equipment I could feel my nerves settle down. They broke things down SO SIMPLE. Everyone knew what to do, rehearsed and tested things a d got ready to go. By this point I felt so confident, but I still couldn't believe I was about to complete a bucket list item. Kicking out into Olawalu, beautiful sandy bottom some more practice and confidence - down I went. OMG. I am under water and loving it. Passed the confidence and safety tests with ease and now we're exploring the coral and wildlife. Unbelievable. If you.have any doubts about being able to do this - kev and Caitlin got ya covered... After it was all done, we booked a second rould later the same week to check out the Mala Pier site. Personal touch. Attention to safety and detail.
