Don't question it- that's just how my mind works. LOL. So I made a reservation online to rent out a bike that morning, was very pleased with the price (a little shy over $15 for four hours), and went on my way. Location was easy to find with ample parking, the guy at the counter got me set up with papers to sign my life away, and Don(?) set up the cruiser to my height. The rental came with a bike lock, a basket, and a helmet (which I didn't take). He gave me the run-down on how to operate the bike, let me do a test run around the parking lot before starting my time, and I was off on my way once comfortable. The cruiser worked with ease as I biked around Kailua Town through rocky paths and well-paved streets. The lock secured my bike well on the bike racks around town, and there were no issues throughout. After the four hours were up, I returned the bike, and it was a no-hassle process. Needless to say, I had a great experience and will be doing this again! So try it out and bike on!

I wanted so badly to support a small business during COVID but wow this was a level of unprofessionalism I have never experienced. My boyfriend and I have been trying to rent one board since Sunday and today it is Friday and we have STILL been unable to confirm our rental. I called Sunday and received a text in response to my call. They told me to text at this number for questions and reservations. I have been trying to set up my reservation ever since via text but the responses have been little to none. On Wednesday my boyfriend even e-mailed them, but it's been two days and still no response. Their main phone number just goes to voicemail, so then we tried to call the phone number we had been texting but someone answered saying "you have the wrong person", even though hours later they would respond to my text with the same number. We were really excited to stand up paddle board this week but now we won't be doing it anymore. I'm very disappointed. The communication was seriously the most unprofessional I've ever experienced. All I wanted was to rent one board. I don't know why they're not interested in doing so, or it's fine if they are not able to but they should have communicated that to me instead of leaving me on read on and off for the last 5 days.

Always passed it but never really stopped by as this Kailua location is right across from Target is easy to spot as it's quite massive having several sections there is quite a bit to see here. Love that they have their own parking lots as well though not a lot of stalls its convenience not to search is always appreciated. What I came for was stickers...love what these local shops have as it's so colorful and creative and finding something different is a challenge but for me was finding them lol as usually you find it in the display case which wasn't the case and as I searched and searched it wasn't on any of the walls or shelves got me confused and wondering if they have any at all. The staff was quite busy as the store was crowded and hand folks lined up to pay I finally found them right against the wall beside the front door lol! Finding unique ones was nice even Kailua ones is cool including the local zip code was nice but I liked the floral prints which they didn't have much of but did have deals on multiple purchase was nice since I was doing that and was thrilled to have some stickers at a great deal as well. My wife wanted to browse, so I stayed toward the back with our two young kids to keep them occupied. We weren't creating a disturbance. We weren't opening merchandise. We were simply waiting while trying to keep two little ones entertained. Instead of feeling welcomed, we felt like we were being watched. Every few minutes it was another "Can I help you?" Not in a genuine, conversational way, but in a way that made it clear we were expected to either buy something immediately or leave. There was no warmth, no personality, no attempt to make the experience enjoyable. Just a room full of employees who seemed completely uninterested in customers beyond getting them out the door. The irony is that surf shops don't just sell T-shirts and hats anymore. Those can be bought online in seconds. What keeps people coming back is the feeling. The culture. The aloha. The sense that you're walking into a place that actually loves where it lives. That feeling was completely absent here. I've spent years happily supporting this store because I believed it represented something uniquely Hawaiian. This visit felt transactional, indifferent and surprisingly cold. The whole team was incredible. We had all levels of divers from Discovery scuba, working on open water certification, and myself, an already certified diver who last dive was some mumbley years ago. Our instructors and divemasters were fantastic. Francesca and Brian are an incredible team. They made everybody feel comfortable with every level of diving that they were at. Both were incredibly knowledgeable, easygoing, and were even able to put up with our family dynamics, as they are. We were all laughing for a good part of the day. That I find incredibly important--giggling and trading stories, being comfortable with the people you're diving with. Once the dive started, they both were 100% professional, easygoing, and incredibly knowledgeable, helping all of us make memories that will last a lifetime. Even our boat skipper was fantastic. Quick ride out. Incredibly knowledgeable, not only about the diving, but told us about local places we could go, things that we need to make sure that we see. Was incredibly helpful getting in and out of the water. Skipper gets five stars as well. Folks, I can't recommend this place enough. We called day of to confirm we are able to go to the sand bar on a Sunday. He had a few kayaks left and suggested we reserve it ASAP. We showed up at 10:15 to get our 2 tandem kayaks. Jeff and another employee helped us load it onto the top of our Nissan Altima, taught us how to load it, and told us where to park to get to the sand bar. We were off within 15 minutes. The kayaks are a lot heavier than I expected. They mounted them with ease but it was much harder for us to do on our own. It isn't hard in terms of the order to do everything or how to do it, but it was hard just because it is heavy. Overall I'd rent from here again as long as you have strong people to carry the kayaks. The rental for Kaneohe sand bar must be a full day rental (we used about 4.5 hours but would have felt rushed to get it back in 4 hours). It includes an anchor as well. It was $75 per tandem kayak + tax for us.

Since it was a Sunday and most other rental businesses were closed, we reluctantly went with this company -- a decision I sincerely regret. From the outset, the experience was chaotic and unprofessional. Calling ahead yielded little useful information; staff were unclear, unresponsive, and seemingly uninterested in helping. We were forced to book online due to the lack of timely or reliable communication. Upon arrival, we were issued kayaks and life vests that were in poor, unsafe condition. The life jackets were tattered, worn out, and looked completely unmaintained -- a major safety red flag. It's clear that this business does not prioritize safety or equipment standards. There was no proper safety briefing, and we received no warnings about the unfavorable weather or ocean conditions. The water that day was rough, choppy, and unsafe -- especially for first-time kayakers. No one at Windward Water Sports made any attempt to reschedule us or even disclose these conditions. A responsible and ethical business would have recognized the risk and acted accordingly.The parking at the launch site was disorganized and overcrowded, costing us nearly an hour of our already limited rental window. What should have been a 20-minute paddle to the snorkeling area took over 90 minutes due to the dangerous wave activity. Once we arrived, visibility in the water was zero -- snorkeling was completely out of the question. To make matters worse, on the return trip, one person in our group capsized and could not reboard their kayak without assistance -- a terrifying experience that further reflects the lack of proper safety measures, briefing, or equipment quality. After this ordeal, I requested a partial refund, understanding that we used the kayaks briefly. I was met with a flat denial. The justification? "Business has been bad." That is not a valid excuse. It is completely unacceptable to prioritize your financial struggles over the safety, experience, and basic rights of your customers. At this point, given the unsafe conditions, defective equipment, and the lack of disclosure or professionalism, I am demanding a full refund. That is the only reasonable and ethical course of action. Jeff Tobias needs to do the right thing and issue a full refund immediately. This wasn't just a poor experience -- it was negligent, unsafe, and unethical. I will be filing complaints with relevant consumer protection agencies and posting this review across all major platforms to warn others. Avoid Windward Water Sports.
