The staff are very nice, a session for only 10$ and only 5$ if you need to rent either inline or roller skates and if you have the energy only 5$ for the next session. Stopped by 808 to pick up a pair of shoes. If you're not familiar with them, they've been around since my older brother skated, so a while. They are of and about the local community, and that shows in their efforts and their customers. As soon as I got in, service and staff was professional. I love that they have their safety guidelines posted on the window and that they had hand sanitizer readily available. In terms of merch, they have a great selection of brands and skating accessories. In terms of shoes, also a good selection, including Vans, adidas, Nike SB, and Lakai. Transaction was smooth, and I was in and out in a few minutes. Would definitely recommend this shop, especially when you want to support local. My daughter has been wanting to learn to ride a skateboard. So, we looked around Ala Moana and a couple of town places that sell boards. I never felt comfortable asking questions or the staff never even bothered to approach us. So, today we ventured to Kailua and am so I glad that we did. The store is brightly lit and the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in. We walked in and started looking at the decks. A staff member, Makenzie, came over and asked if we needed anything or had questions. He was super knowledge, patient and included my daughter in the decision making process. Growing up, I was a tomboy; I loved watching WWE on TV & playing football with my guy cousins, but I was absolutely terrified (still am) of breaking a single bone, that's why I never got into skateboarding. Several months ago i saw a man wearing a t-shirt referencing an obscure artist from the 80s. He told me he bought it at 808 skate . I checked online and the store did not have my size in the color I wanted. Today , I finally came in and bought the shirt in a black instead of pink . The two men working were very nice and helpful. They make the shirt themselves and said it's too expensive to order more because the reference is not well known. I was bummed, but I understand they are running a business. Went to 808 skate about a week ago to get my son a board. He had a cheap complete from a local chain. Went in with minimal knowledge of what we were looking for. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by a couple of the staff. Browsed around the decks to let my son look at graphics etc. a couple minutes went by and one of the guys asked if we wanted help finding a deck. Worker recommend a size and showed us what was available in that size and went into the back room and brought out more decks for my son to choose from. He educated us on the differences in trucks and wheels. My son picked out his deck, trucks, bearings, wheels and grip tape. The guy was so helpful we went through the whole things again for me. He offered to put everything together for us but we opted to take everything home and learn how to do it ourselves. We've been skating them almost every day since we got them and notice a world of difference from the pre assembled boards we got from the shopping center. We will definitely be back for new decks in a while. We're eating through ours learning how to manual and dragging our tails across the road. It's been a great bonding experience for my son finding out about skating and me rediscovering a childhood joy I had many years ago. I was looking for a good beginner skateboard and called because I don't know much about skateboards. Spoke with Joe on the phone for almost an hour and the poor guy had to deal with my million questions (some on repeat because I couldn't remember the answers, lol). He was awesome though - super chill, super nice and patient. In the end, he helped me figure out which board was best for me which I understand is hard to do over the phone. Came in on a Saturday thinking about building a small board to flip around since I have a longboard to carve around on already. Selection is impressive and guy working was helpful and knowledgeable. He helped me build a board suited for my needs. He walked me through all the new stuff since I have not bought a skateboard in like 10 years but I ended up going with what I was use too. Independent truck co, spitfire soft wheels and some bones redz bearings. I already had a deck a friend gave to me. He pressed my bearings in and mounted the wheels for free. I love that a few kids came in and were using their tools to adjust and change things out on their boards. Skate shop should be more than a retail store and 808 Skate is more than that, it has that close skateboarding community feel to it. read more

I've been to every shop on the island, if you want to start cheaply then pick up a Goodwood board for $29, then head over to 808 and fix it up with your choice in trucks, wheels and bearings. They will help you decide on wheel durometer and sizing for your intended use, and they won't treat you like a fool or give you a blank stare when you ask them a technical question. I'm a 6 year veteran with downhill longboarding experience, and an absolute newbie at technical skateboarding. When I left this shop I felt relieved and confident in my transition. The set up I was left with performed much better than I would have imagined and has given me the confidence I needed to go from carving/sliding to Ollie/kick flipping. Thanks 808!! read more
