History
Established in 1992.
Searching the island for treasures, Maui Hands Owner Panna Cappelli soon realized that Maui was overflowing with creative and talented people. The original 25 artists who joined the original Makawao venture in 1992 grew to 200, necessitating a larger venue, and the Queen Kaahumanu Center (QKC) location opened in 1994. As time passed, Panna realized the need for a larger space and opened the Paia location in 2000, which won a Best Gallery award in its third year. The 2000s also brought an opening in a hotel environment at the Hyatt Regency in Ka’anapali. In 2004, the QKC gallery moved to Front Street, winning a Best Gallery award in 2008. In 2011, the original Makawao gallery reopened in a much larger location on Makawao Avenue, and in 2021 the Hyatt location was moved and reimagined within the prestigious Shops at Wailea. Maui Hands currently represents over 300 artists, artisans, and jewelers across three locations on Maui in Makawao, Pa’ia, and Wailea.
Meet the Business Owner: Panna C.
My name is Panna and I am the founder and owner of Maui Hands Art Galleries - the actualization of my childhood dreams come true. My vision for Maui Hands is to represent the talent, variety, and abundance of art in the Hawaiian Islands, and through this venture I hope to pass along my love for art and appreciation for artists to the world.
