What an amazing shop! Owner Rachel Ray Au Hoon has put together a gorgeous collection of her art work and local crafts. There is something in here for almost everyone. From patinas to glasswork to Ni'ihau shell necklaces to mens/women's wear. Each item offered was carefully selected and crafted by local artisans. Owner Rachel was born in Moloka'i and is immersed in the Hawaiian culture. She is conversational / fluent in Hawaiian and can tell many mo'olelo (stories) about the products offered. IMHO Ever since I discovered U'i Gallery 6 years ago, I make it a priority to visit at least twice during my visits to experience the aloha spirit from Rachael Ray and her store manager, Kai-u. By far, U'i Gallery is my favorite gift store/gallery on the island! I never leave the store without purchasing some beautiful clothing and artwork. Full disclosure, local here who drives by all the time but ive never been inside. I follow her on her socials, recognize her pieces on clothes people wear, on the walls in Bamboo Grill, recognize her out with her ohana in public, had one of her dresses gifted to me and today was my first time inside and I took my little one. It was an impromptu stop on our way from Target and Walmart and no regrets. She was so sweet to me and my little one and was speaking to her in olelo Hawaii and my little one just loved it. It was a reminder to me to brush up on my olelo Hawaii too especially since I need to teach it to my mini-me. Every corner of her gallery is filled with goodies from all shapes and sizes. I was a huge fan before but now I truly love her work. We will definitely be going back to shop for gifts and for myself as well. Whatever you do don't tell her she shares a named with Famed celebrity chef, Rachel Ray, who is actually a real sweet and welcoming celebrity, unlike this owner. I made the mistake of saying her name was shared with Rachel Ray on Food Network and she pulled a Mariah Carey and said she doesn't know who I was talking about and then said I offended her with this statement and only Americans say such things. I even apologized and said it was not my intention to offend her even though she offended me. She then said a bunch of things in Hawaiin and said her art was displayed in hotels locally and take a year to paint. Then walked away and said she was going to talk to one of her regular paying customers. This lady has really the worst customer service I have encountered in a long time and it is a shame because she will not do well with this personality type. Mahalo. read more

this gallery and the artwork in it is exquisite, it really represented the pride and passion that exists in Hawaii. Rachael was so warm, pleasant, and welcoming - she didn't hesitate to show us around her store and the art her and her family creates. I would highly recommend stopping by this gallery for wonderful art pieces and treats, and to just experience Rachael's kindness! She was so friendly and excited to talk about Maui and Hawaii and shared a lot about the culture I believe that in traveling you must always learn the culture. My boyfriend and I had just landed in Maui and took an Uber with all of our luggage to Ui Gallery to kill time, while we were outside the door getting our luggage situated, the owner walked out and told us to move out of the way of her store stating "this is not a good spot for your luggage especially since you aren't a customer of mine"??? She assumed we were not customers and that comment immediately turned us away so we went next door to Tin Roof and enjoyed ourselves there. I hope this owner is not this rude to all tourists. The owner/artist is friendly and energetic! She makes you feel at home and welcome not only in her store but in Maui. She teaches about culture and history as you wander the store. Her artwork is on postcards, dishes, clothes, cloth and so much more. She sells only local made items from her collection and several other local artists. stopped in while waiting for an order next door. What a surprise. vibrant colors of tropical scenery, botanicals and native imagery. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful and so pleasant to talk to about the artist and her vision. I bought a tank top and wore it a few days later, it fit so nicely that I came back and bought another one in a different design as we as a dress and my husband bought swim trunks. We were able to talk to Rachel for quit's some time, she was so excited about her art and culture. Our visit to this unexpected Gallery was well worth the second trip. I cannot speak more highly of Rachael Ray and the U'i Gallery. The window displays caught my eye as I was eating at a nearby restaurant. I needed the leggings with the Ti Leaf print and if I could figure out how to get the arm chair in a similarly inspired print, I would have taken that too. But then you walk inside and are greeted by Rachael, who has to be the friendliest, most upbeat person I met on my entire trip. What a treat to get to explore this Gallery and speak with artist about her process and inspiration. Will definitely be looking for more of Rachael Ray's livable art! read more

Wishing she had a shop on Oahu. This store is honestly my favorite retail store on Maui and maybe out of all the islands. I have to stop in each time I land on Maui to visit family. My only suggestion is to paint more as I own something in almost all of her prints from cutting boards to cell phone holders to bikinis to dresses and skirts. Ui even had a dress made for me in the print I wanted because it was not available to me in my size at the time and mailed it to me interisland. read more

Stopped by here as we waited for our food next door. So glad I stumbled in here! Rachael's husband manages this art gallery and offers some pretty breathtaking pieces of art here. They offer everything from canvas to magnets to phone cases to clothing. I bought a few souvenir magnets for family and friends here - the artwork is realistic and beautiful. It really can't be beat. Wow - I am so surprised by the negative reviews. My husband, daughter and I ordered lunch from the very popular restaurant next door. While we waited for our food, we happened to see the shop and went in. We are so glad we did! This place is a gem. To be clear - we ARE tourists from California but the owner (Rachel) was super friendly and went out of her way to show us some of her art and even discuss some of her inspiration with my daughter. We could not find the rash guard my daughter wanted on the rack but we bought a few great items and the owner threw in a small free gift for my daughter as well. i wish there was zero stars bc she deserves it lol... but seeing the reviews, i guess it's common for the owner to aggressively shoo people away who are "blocking" customers in front of her store... honestly me and my family weren't blocking her door(we weren't even there for long either, probs were there for like 5-7 min) we were at the edge of the sidewalk no where near the door and literally the owner was making like there was a whole line waiting to go in her store but it was only crowded bc of the food place "tin roof" next to it(i mean next door looks like it gets crowded all the time why have a business next to a food place knowing people will be walking past or standing next to their business waiting for food) y'all should go eat there tho lol super good but be careful of the sidewalk bc she "owns" the sidewalk too i guess another thing that was funny was she came out the 2nd time to shoo us away again like she kept coming to the door like there was customers tryna come in lmfao but literally no one was there. support local? i would rather support a real local business with real local owners, not a colonized one where they say they're local bc they own a business in hawaii and have an attitude like that towards customers. also, i need to add an additional thing me and my family experienced, there wasn't any customers or a line trying to get into her store for about 20-30 min when we moved across to park our car and eat in the shade. the owner is kinda racist too, there was haole tourist all by the door on their mats when we moved and she never shoo them away??? i guess it's bc we're brown.. this owner is a true karen she'll need to have that attitude fixed if there is multiple people experiencing the same thing and wrote about it on yelp BEWARE! read more

In my visits to the gallery, I have repetitively witnessed this team greet tourists, and locals alike, with genuine aloha as they share the passion for the art displayed without being pushy sales people. I find it interesting and uplifting to learn about the artists inspirations for their pieces! I've had some "chicken skin" (goose bump :)) moments in this U`i gallery as I've connected with some special art pieces without any "pressure" from the artist or manager, (Sorry, for some reason, google won't accept my spelling of her Hawaiian name which is very unfortunate because she is a gem!). Because my shopping experience was not rushed or heavily steered, the art I eventually purchased for my own home, as well as my daughter's, hold personal meaningful connections. Those emotional connections to the art is a recurring experience as I enjoy it. My most recent purchase was a skirt of one of my favorite Rachael Rae's creations, the ti leaf. I was pleasantly surprised on the excellent workmanship on this garment. Of course the art is beautiful, but the fall of the fabric, fit of the design, matching of the seams and stitching...very well constructed. Rachael Ray puts her artwork on the widest variety of products I've seen in a gallery, so there's something for everyone, and many opportunities for enjoying her vibrant colors. I really wanted to take something from Hawaii back to NY with me, but I really wanted something meaningful that was made in Hawaii, so U'i Gallery is the perfect place! In addition to the artwork, they carry greeting cards, phone cases, mousepads, tahitian pearl jewelry, koa wood bowls and beautiful placemats with hibiscus and flowers that remind me of Maui. What I really like about the artwork, is that the artist, Rachael Ray, has her artwork available in different sizes and they offer matted prints and canvas wraps. Luckily, I was able to meet Rachael and she even helped me pick the artwork that would look best in the room that I wanted to decorate, based on my color scheme. Racheal is a most generous, welcoming, happy, conscious artist that makes you feel at home in her art studio. Her oil paintings have so much spirit of the islands, it's a joy to see.
