I've come to Matt's a couple times when I couldn't get an appointment with my regular barber. Both times I got a good haircut. Not as good as my regular barber, but it also cost less. I don't love that it's walk ins only because you sometimes end up waiting a very long time for your haircut. If you can find an off time when it isn't super busy, it's not so bad. read more

This is my second time returning. First time was great (I forgot her name but she was really good). I came back thinking that I'll get a good haircut but I was wrong. I got a haircut from the owner(?). He cut my hair in like 15 mins ( it was clear that he just wanted me to get out of his chair). I still paid him $30 + $10 tip even though it was clear that he didn't wanna take his time. Haircut was below average but the main problem was there were several bleeding spots on my neck . This is a picture that I took 6 hours after I got the haircut. Initially, it was a lot worse than this. I get that its hard to provide best service everyday but come on. This is not cool. Cool shop, usually decent music playing, great cuts. I've tried most of the barbers in Brighton center and this is my favorite by far. Doesn't matter which barber in this shop, they all know what they're doing (I've had fades, mullets, trims, etc) done here and they are all done to your liking. Gets crowded towards closing so expect to wait a few minutes if you go after 5. Bring cash, they just upped their prices, which honestly I agree with - was very inexpensive before. I think $25 + tip will get you out the door now. Overall great place, just don't stare at the tattooed frog for too long! read more

Just moved to the area and tried this place out because it was the closest to me. The owner is extremely rude and was yelling at potential customers to close the door when they park their head in to gauge the wait, then would insult/make fun of these prospective customers if they left. When I was there I had to wait behind a few people which wasn't an issue because I went after work at a busy time, however when it was finally my turn, the barber that was open decided to take a pizza break in his chair at the busiest point of the day. I ended up getting the owner, which I thought would be a good thing, but he took less than 15 minutes to cut my hair and could tell he couldn't care less about his service. I am stunned at how this place has a good rating, I have never met such a terrible barber shop owner in my life. read more

I've lived in Brighton / Brookline for quite a few years now, and have tried a lot of different barbers and barber shops. After visiting Matt's for the first time today, I have to say it's really head and shoulders above any of the others I've been to. The shop itself is designed with care, is very clean, and has a relaxed / welcoming vibe. Matt comes across as a very friendly guy who obviously takes pride in what he does, and is good at it - I was very happy with the haircut he gave me, and his prices are very reasonable. I drove by this place so many times so I decided to check it out for the first time today. Matt was out town, Liz was at the helm. I asked for a drop fade and Liz killed it! Didn't even feel the haircut half the time, it was smooth criminal. It's walk-in only so if you come in a popular time better have a book, play with your phone, enjoy some rock tunes, or you can just watch the magicians at work :). I met a local guy and we chatted up a storm. The price point is right similar to those in the area. Oh it's cash-only as well but no worries, there are like 3-4 banks within the same block (we need more restaurants in the area not banks!) There's plenty of street parking but there's also a small free parking lot next door. Will bring the kids here next time. Thank you Liz for the great experience and the bad@ss haircut! read more

The location is convenient and there is a municipal parking lot next to his shop which makes parking super easy. So many barbers just rush through cuts to get to the next one - not Matt. He's very professional and knows exactly what to do. I've been a regular at another place for years, but a friend was visiting and wanted a "barber shop" experience, so I brought him to Matt's based on the recommendations of others. My friend was so pleased with his haircut; Liz was obviously an expert and did such a great job. Matt and Liz provide such a congenial, friendly, and great atmosphere that I'm tempted to switch over and try them out next time.
