Great Matto location near the New York Public Library and Bryant Park. During nice weather days I know I can grab a bite that's inexpensive before I head to an exhibit at the library. Sometimes I get something to take home. Matto Espresso is a chain coffee and pastry shop popping up on every block. I know what I'm going to get and order through the app on my phone. If you don't use the app each item is a dollar more. In nice weather it's not hard to find a public space to sit outside. The coffee has never disappointed me and I enjoy the Cheddar Chive Biscuit and the Cinnamon Scone the most. I've tried other options but keep going back to my two favorite pastries. My morning meal is inexpensive and quick when I'm out and about. I recommend Matto wherever they're located. Be sure to get the app on your phone and use your credit card to add money in increments of $10. When you're near a Matto you will be ready to order and pick up. As my one Yelp friend Paula pointed out recently, it is unfortunate for those that are not astute about technology or don't have a credit card. The drinks here are great and the service is fast and friendly. What Matto needs to work on is the app and food misrepresentation. Ordered a smoked salmon bagel from their "secret menu" on the app and what I was hoping to get and what I got were totally different. The app noted that the bagel only came with smoke salmon which is what I expected. What I got was a smoked salmon bagel with scallions and cream cheese which I didn't want. I suppose it was my mistake for not checking before I left and it was too late for me to go back. I also wanted to give Matto feedback via their app and apparently this is non-existent. I stopped at this spot my last time in NY, as I needed a breakfast spot with vegan options. On that end of things they did come through with a banana bread, albeit one much smaller than the non vegan version. As for drinks, it's a pretty standard selection and I enjoyed a London fog with oat milk. The one detractor for this particular visit was that I got charged twice, which I didn't realize until I was back home on the west coast. But anyway, if you download the app everything is allegedly $2.50 or $2ish dollars. I didn't download the app. I came in and was waiting around to get my money back from a bar around the block. But downloading the app would probably be the smart way to go. I ordered just a plain coffee for the boy and for myself I went with something weird. It was like an iced latte with a pulverized banana and dates. I may have been massively hungover so it was a highly recommended hangover caffeine drink. This place is literally 4 mins walk from my work place and couldn't have been more convenient. Not only is it convenient, but it's great value for the price. $2 excluding tax, which is extremely a rare find around the city. They had their famous banana bread and brownie samples which were great tasting. I got their chai latte which was super tasty. Great and timely service. This place is going to become a staple for me - I just know it! If you order through their app, everything $2.18 including tax! We used the app and it was great :) you'll also get a $5 reward when you register in the app, and the app offers $5 rewards for every $50 spent. The deals are so good here!!! Also, this place allows any milk substitutes and any flavor shot for no extra charge!! Matcha Latte (5/5): Loved the matcha taste! Loved that I could go for oat milk without an extra charge! Loved the amount of ice (like filled to 1/4 of the cup)! Loved the sweetness level (probably about half as sweet as the average matcha latte) which allowed the matcha to really shine. Quiche (4.5/5): This was delicious :) I loved the ratio of spinach to egg. I also liked the cheesy aspect to the quiche as well. I just wish it was slightly larger is all, but for its size it was surprisingly filling Choco Almond Croissant (5/5): Literal perfection! Best chocolate almond croissant I've ever had. So much almond paste, so much chocolate - all the ratios were spot on. Please get this - it's a must Multigrain croissant sandwich (4.5/5) I was impressed at how good the croissant was even though it was multigrain, which i'd never heard of before. The latte, tasted great, but is small in size but yeah its $2. I really liked the almond croissant after I heated up in the office and added one of those tiny containers with jelly. How can you go wrong w $2+ tax set pricing for anything in the shop in NYC? Just saying, I love that I'm not paying extra just for having oatmilk in my latte instead of regular milk. Their coffee is good, their food options plenty too! Like come on....an egg croissant for $2 is a steal! a fairly new matto espresso has opened on 38th st between 5th and 6th ave near my job and thats really good news . the angle of the matto is that every item is 2 bucks each from beverages , pastries , salads , yogurts , sandwiches , bagels ,snacks , etc and for 2 bucks quality is better then average . if you visit any of the locations during the morning breakfast rush its the same story , place is packed with customers and the folks who work behind the counters are moving fast getting people in and out as its grab and go as none of the locations have seating due to the small size of each store but to my surprise this location has some seating which is always taken . my fave are the sweets especially the muffins and cookies and the coffee is also good .have not visited any of the locations during lunch time but when i did pass by the 38th st spot it was packed with people from the many office buildings around the area. it seems being on the side street is not affecting business . glad they set up shop near my work area and i am sure many folks feel the same way. 4 stars on my yelp meter .
