We thoroughly enjoyed our first dine-in experience at Mattenga's. We LOVE that it's a local business dedicated to honoring parents, training up the youth in the way they should go, supporting the community, and providing quality pizza. The service was great and all of the employees we saw appeared to be teens. They were friendly, professional, prompt in serving, and kindly acknowledged us as we left. We ordered the Pothole and Big Matt personal pizzas, as well as the tiramisu. All were great! Pizza crust any way we wanted it, beverages made easy, and the recommendation of a wonderful dessert called (I hope I have this right) Zeppelins. Those are sort of like a beignet crossed with a powdered sugar donut hole, but better than either. Great service? Double-cut pizza, brought out faster than perfect pizza has ever appeared before, enjoyed on a serene patio. Even the Ladies' Room is adorable. In a town full of bad pizza, Mattenga's is a pleasant exception. Even after sitting in a box for delivery, the food was solid. The pizza is thin crust how I like it. The flavor was great and my well baked request was honored. I had buffalo wings medium spicy. Again, solid. We also had the Greek salad and zeppole donuts. (We were hungry). Update: The pizza is very good. When delivery is handled directly by the restaurant, the service is solid. However, when they use third-party delivery there is a chance the experience will be subpar. After I left feedback about the issue, they reached and made it right. Previous: 20-30 minutes late, that's fine. But the driver did not ring, knock, or notify. Just a sad box left in the cold. I only discovered the order because I happened to open the door myself to check. I really liked the establishment and the owner. CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Loyal Customer from the beginning and tonight I figured ordering during a fundraiser should be a win/win. Food is usually on point (albeit overpriced). Tonight I experienced a straight up TERRIBLE customer service experience. 15 minutes after I received notification my order was ready, I come in to stand in line for an order that is already ready. Patiently waiting. Then at my turn I tell the server my name and the girl types and prints my order. Next she proceeds to make me wait for an unreasonable duration of time to take an additional four more orders. Then she prints off their receipts to lump them all in one batch. Multiple people working. No delegation or teamwork. Business could also streamline pickup orders by going straight to the back to pick up specific pick up orders. I used to work in the service industry and you lost a loyal customer due to poor service which is unsatisfactory. Making everyone line up at the front to hurry up and wait just to hurry up and wait is ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is on the website your business has the audacity to ask for a pre-service TIP! If I had PREPAID for a tip for that awful service experience, I would have demanded management, someone would more than reconsider their profession and a public scene would have been made. Staff have been friendly and helpful. TV's are on. We want to go try the buffet, on Saturday. They have salads as well. The pizza rolls come with a couple of choices for filling, not sure, these are my favorite. Great price for them as well. All the food we've gotten here has been great. I cannot say enough how awesome this place is. Walked in and was greeted immediately with a very helpful staff that offered suggestions since it was our first time. When our son mentioned it was his birthday nearly every staff member came to the table to congratulate him and made it very special. Pizza was on point and the wings were perfect. Garlic bread was probably my favorite thing (very strong garlic flavor). The staff surprised us agian with birthday deserts to top it all off. Kids had to ask for a picture before we left. Loyal customer here. I LOVE the food it's great but CUSTOMER SERVICE has to be fixed. I ordered my food online and it said it will be ready at 530. I got there at 535 and my food was still not ready. Yet people who ordered WAY before me got their food people coming In and out. Someone who arrived ordered and not even 10 minutes later got their food. When I asked about where my food was and how much longer. I wasn't fully acknowledged and only respond I got was "it will be out shortly"....i didn't receive my food till 630. Thankfully it was hot. But the lack of communication and the lack of acknowledgement is unbelievable and this is the second time I've had a bad time here. I'll try one more time but if it's the same shenanigans I'm so done. Just do better with CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm pregnant and I've been on my feet all day and to still wait even longer on my food that I purposely ordered online to avoid waiting is crazy. read more

I used to love this place. One complaint is all I have. The pepperoni pizza is dripping in oil. The oil made our crust soggy. You lift one slice and let oil drip. I should have taken video. It is not appealing. Other than this, place is super clean, salad very good with nice crispy lettuce. Staff phenomenal and very friendly. Don't be deceived. They look very nice. I ordered the pepperoni rolls party pack. I was disappointed they were flavorless. They only had one slice of pepperoni and very little cheese. The ranch tasted like watered down bottled ranch. If you are hungry and you want to fill your stomach with a flavorless chewy meal, this is the perfect item. I'm in town for a week and my company gives me a Perdiem to spend on food so I come across this place pizzeria sounds OK looks OK let's give it a shot so I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. I got the four meatballs and I got an order of pizza rolls, which came with four and a marinara dip And two breadsticks for $.99 I did online ordering and I got a text message saying it was ready after I paid the cashier and appointing about an extra 10 minutes for him to get my food servers. Running around everywhere not really crowded. Ambience is kind of quiet didn't really smell anything going on food wise so maybe they need to work on that little better have some more aroma throughout the business. I noticed behind near the cashier, there's forks, Parmesan cheese, packets, napkins, etc. thinking I might not get any of my to go bag. I grab what I could and waited. Got my food headed back to the hotel and guess what? Nothing in the bag no forks, no napkins nothing I wasn't even offered any. Luckily I spotted them and got them myself. Not good guys. Tell your customers to get utensils and napkins and cheese if they want it cause otherwise you don't put it into the bag . First off the spaghetti is pretty huge however it lacking the sauce and said it came with two labels of sauce, along with the four meatballs, which were pretty small as you can see in the picture after a few bites of the spaghetti I could tell it was sitting there for a while it wasn't fresh. There was definitely not enough sauce at all. I added a much Parmesan cheeses I can for flavor and end up throwing half of it away . The pizza rolls were kind of greasy and all had pretty good flavor. I inspected one. It looks like a mozzarella cheese stick inside along with one pepperoni and the rest was dough, so nothing exciting there will be great flavor. The marinara sauce was added addition to dip them otherwise in that I probably would not recommend the pizza rolls and just order a pizza maybe as for the spaghetti definitely as for extra sauce if you get it, maybe get some fresh pasta meatballs were OK. I did eat all four of those and I ordered two breadsticks that were pretty plain kinda like Olive Garden but less seasoning overall four out of 10 guys work harder. This is a pizzeria next to a hotel here in San Antonio area. Gotta make it work too much competition around here. read more

This is a review for a delivery order - I did not eat inside of the restaurant. When browsing the menu, I noticed a "Pizza Kit" option. Decided to make it a family activity for my husband, kids, and myself. It was fantastic. Huge bang for your buck! $10 for a 16" pizza kit includes the dough, sauce, and cheese. You can add on more toppings to include in your kit for an added charge or have your own toppings at home to add on. The restaurant has a video on their facebook page with instructions on making the pizza at home, they were easy to follow and worked great for my family. We ended up getting pepperoni and pesto sauce toppings added to our kit and split the dough into two so that my kids could make a pizza to their liking and my husband and I could have our own. Best family fun night activity and really great for the price! read more

Tried out Mattenga's after having some that had been delivered to my work for a meeting. I'm always on the lookout for good pizza (which was hard to find in the midcities area of DFW) so decided to visit the actual Mattenga's location for dinner. We were greeted when we walked in the door and seated fairly quickly. The location itself is definitely feeling dated and could use a little sprucing up, especially the buffet/drink area. Everything appeared relatively clean, and we witnessed the staff mopping the floor thoroughly while we were there. We ordered the Big Matt pizza, garlic nuggets, and a calzone. Everything was very, very good and the portions were generous. It was clear that the pizza toppings were high quality and the crust was well made. The calzone was perfectly cooked and big enough for two meals! We were also given complimentary zeppolis for dessert since it was our first time, and we will definitely be ordering those on a return visit. There is a lot of good pizza in this area, but Mattenga's will remain on our go-to list, for sure. read more

This was my first time here at Mattenga's. Since I'm allergic to gluten, I ordered the gluten-free supreme pizza. This pizza was amazing. The flavors were popping in my mouth for gluten-free pizza. It was outstanding I will definitely be back for more pizza. My party had a regular margarita pizza and they loved it so I would definitely try this place.
