Today was my last day eating at a McAlister's. For starters the prices have gotten to a point of absurdity - a tea with a few splashes of puree is $7!!! For a cup!! A gallon of tea is $12+. If that's not bad enough they introduced a service fee when you order ahead using the app. The food quality has gone way down hill. Just in today's orders the broccoli and cheese soup was noticeably a lot more watery. I was given soggy, stale crackers - literally no crunch, just mush. And my brownie had a some strands of hair in it, so we're obviously not wearing hair nets (probably gloves either). And for the record that's not my hair type, color or length. The one positive was that the order was ready by the committed time so I can give a star for that but the totality of everything else is the reason I won't be returning. read more

Nick was great. He was able to explain the changes to the menu since the last time we came in. We had a nacho basket and the cheese was delicious. I had a half a supreme spud and the roasted veggie soup. The soup was delicious and the spud was good as always. My hubby had the club on baguette with salad mix instead of spring mix. I give it a two only bc the young manager gave me a refund n got me to a VIP free meal for the inconvenience but this was my first time going w my bf we ordered online so we paid before hand. When we got home my daughter wanted fruit but couldn't open it. I told her to give it to me so I could open it for her. Thank God I did as it had mold on the fruit when I opened it. I had to tell me daughter she couldn't have it & called the restaurant, when I spoke to the manager and told her the issue all she said was oh no & offered me a $4 refund on a $40 order. So it has been years since I have been to McAlister's basically I'm a new customer! I arrived about 1:45pm so I missed the crazy lunch rush. I was greeted upon walking in the door. The cashier was super helpful as I was unfamiliar with the menu. I have commitment issues so I chose the Pick 2 in which you can choose a half of any 2 sandwich, soup, spud or salad. I had the Jalapeño Turkey Crunch sandwich and a cup of chili. First, I wish I had gotten the whole sandwich because it was delicious. The sandwich is served with jalapeño kettle chips and this really made the sandwich! If you grew up eating ruffles on your bologna sandwich (like me) this sandwich is for you! Lastly, the chili was fantastic, no beans, just the way the Texas gods intended lol! Iadded a little cheese and onions and *BAM* chili does a meal make! If I where to have and recommendations, order the jalapeño chips on the side if you're getting the sandwich to go, soggy chips won't do! Also the onions are not chopped and makes it a bit harder to eat. Get the onions on the side and with a couple cuts they're perfect for your chili masterpiece! Decent eats, above average service, but honestly priced for something much better. Nice to note that customers have the option to order table side through their application. Would recommend trying Schlotzky's instead, where the prices are slightly lower, accompanied by noticeably higher quality meats and dramatically tastier sandwich bread buns! My favorite thing was the Fresh Strawberry Lemonade, which is not a good thing to say for a delicatessen. Other reviewers have noted "huge portion sizes". I think McAllisters has some of the best salads and sandwiches around. My favorites are the Savanna Chopped Salad and the Reuben sandwich. My husband loves the club sandwiches (though he misses the cranberry club they used to have on the menu). I just wish they had more staff at the New Braunfels location. The lines to order are usually long, and getting drink refills is nearly impossible. It's a good value for tasty food...but you can't go there if you are in a hurry. read more

Today, I had my wife pick up lunch from here. USUALLY, the food is pretty good and nothing to write a bad review about. As I was getting to the middle part of my broccoli, I noticed something strange in it. Upon further review, I saw that the object was a small butter container, at the bottom.I didn't eat any more after that. As I was getting to the bottom of my sweet tea, also from here, I noticed some strange looking things floating and settling on the bottom of the cup. Whatever it was, I couldn't see it when I initially got the tea, until after the ice had melted. I immediately stopped drinking it. After work, I went to this fine establishment and asked to speak to a manager on duty. I showed her the broccoli cup with the butter container in it and the ice tea with the strange particles in it. I'm paraphrasing her comments, but they were something to the effect of, I think I know what they did and how that got in there. OK. Tell ME how you think it happened and let me know what you're going to do to fix it and/or prevent it from happening again. When I showed her the tea, she looked at it and said that it looked like SUGAR, that hadn't fully dissolved. HUH?!?! WHAT?!?!I've never seen SUGAR look like that, especially after being in a liquid for so long. (See attached photos). You may have noticed that I never mentioned the managers name. That's because she didn't give it to me, didn't introduce herself and she was not wearing a name tag, that would have identified her by name and as the manager.‍That's another issue all together. Someone else mentioned the employees there not wearing nametags? I wonder why they don't and if it's a requirement? It should be, if it isn't. My wife said she went back there when I told her about it and the manager on duty refunded her $4.I didn't ask for a refund. I just wanted someone there to SEE what they gave me. It will be awhile before I go into this particular McAlister's restaurant again. Is this place locally franchised, locally owned? Anyway, others have left negative comments about the place and I really hope the owner/manager takes heed and gets those discrepancies taken care of, ASAP. Even if it means shutting down for a couple of weeks, to clean the place from top to bottom, they should do it. A lot of people look at the cleanliness or lack thereof, of a restaurant's bathroom, as the measuring stick for how much the managers and employees care about the place. Very disappointed in my experience with this McAllister's deli. When you place and expect to get what you want or what you order and you don't it makes the experience not good when you get home, and it's that much worse. I should have learned by now to check all my food, but I figured since there's was no people in the restaurant and I was the only one of two people in the place, while they had at least eight workers that they would get my order right. Boy was I wrong, When you ordered a nacho basket and you pay eight dollars for that and get half of an order of queso that's the size of the two dollar add-on. Then did not get two of the Add ons that I ordered with my meal. I will just avoid this location and maybe McAllister's altogether. I have 1 hr lunch, I waited 45 for my food, I asked one of the girls behind the register about my order, she acted like I annoyed her with my question. She told me they're working on it. Seriously! I asked to speak to the manager for a refund and she told me she was the manager, and that it's going to take a minute because she was busy!! I did not have anymore time to waste and told her that and told me to come back and she would give me my money back or give me my food. Omg! This was my lunch break! They took my money and never got my food. I will not be coming back to this disgusting filthy restaurant!! How is this place still open? Given that this place is already rated at 2 stars, shame on me for not looking at Yelp first. I did an online order for pickup and had to wait an additional 20 minutes from the time the receipt said my order will be ready and I live about 15 min away. I order 2 Avocado and chicken salads and one with no onion or corn relish. Then...... I finally get the order, get home, AND THERE IS NO CHICKEN ON MY CHICKEN SALAD and corn relish and onion on both. As you can see on the receipt it clearly states to omit these ingredients. How does this even happen? I'm already upset because I'm hungry but to add on...... are you all ready for this? I call the McAllisters location and the lady that answered responded to my issue with "well we are under staffed and very busy" AND HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME! The audacity. I pay $32 for food I basically didn't order. Please help me understand how they can keep my $32 when they didn't give me what I ordered. Not one to leave reviews of places like this, but after seeing all the negative ones I felt that a positive review might be helpful. Staying at the hotel next door so I ordered online for pickup inside. Got there a few min earlier than my ready time and the super friendly young lady at the counter asked my name and got my peach tea ready. Food was a few min wait still, no big. Place was extremely well kept. I expected a mess after the most recent reviews. I DID hear the cook say potatoes were 30 min wait and that had me a bit worried but mine was already on its way to me as he said it. But when I got to the counter to order the veggie spud and she told me they are out of spuds it got me thinking, well maybe this is one of those restaurants that just never is really on their A game. Since they were out of the spuds I went for another vegetarian option, the four cheese griller. It's grilled cheeses (provolone, Swiss, American, Parmesan) and tomatoes. I ordered a side of bar b que chips and one of their famous sweet teas. The sandwich was decent but I think all that cheese hurt my tummy a little later, sorry tmi. The tea tasted a little off not like it was old but that the water they used was funny tasting. I do appreciate that they note their vegetarian items separately. That helps a lot when looking over menus! They have 5 items listed as vegetarian but if I remember correctly they have/had a vegetarian chili option which would make 6 vegetarian options total. read more

After some extremely poor service a few months ago, we decided to give it another try. We ordered our meals and looked for a booth to sit in. Every booth had dirty dishes with no one in sight to bus them. When we asked to have a booth cleaned, a girl came out and collected dishes from the booth we wanted plus five or six other booths. She finished collecting dishes and disappeared into the kitchen without cleaning our table. When she came out, she continued at the register, again not cleaning our table. I got the spray cleaner and rag and cleaned it myself. I ordered the French Dip sandwich. The beef in it was so tough I was unable to chew it. I put everything in a to go box, brought it home and fed it to my dog. This time I learned my lesson and will never be back. read more

I enjoy the food from this place however it is next to impossible to get anything quickly even when you order advance over the phone. Their drive-through window is for call ahead orders only and half the time you can't get anybody to answer the call ahead order line. This will probably be my last time eating here. My friend and I wanted something quick before a movie, and since this place was right next to the movie theater we decided to eat here. I had the Spicy Turkey Melt with a side of mac n' cheese. The sandwich was pretty tasty. It has turkey, bacon, melted pepper jack cheese, avocado slices, chipotle ranch sauce, lettuce/tomato on a very soft half of baguette bread. The mac n' cheese wasn't that great - cafeteria quality. The food was pretty good, and the service was super quick. It didn't take very long from ordering before the food came out. The only downside from this meal was the sanitation of the restaurant. It was 1pm when we ate there. Most of the tables were occupied and the ones that weren't had food crumbs and were fairly dirty. Granted it was right after peak lunch hours, I can't overlook a messy eating area. I'd still come back for a quick meal if in the area though. read more

My husband wanted to walk out at this point. Regrettably, I talked him out of it, because I really wanted a Rueben sandwich, and our regular go-to place for a Rueben sandwich was closed. I just thought we'd give this place a try, because it was nearby. Unfortunately, I had placed my order at the counter before I noticed the disgustingly filthy floors--trash was underneath most of the tables, and they were covered with some sort piled on residue. At this point I'm wondering if it's too late to cancel my order, get a refund, and go somewhere else. I'm also wondering what the health inspection score was for this place. We pretty much know not to expect anything good from a place that does not take pride in its appearance. As for the Rueben, I specifically asked the clerk behind the counter if the Rueben was grilled. She assured me it was. When she called me up to pick up my to-go order, it was obviously not grilled. When I pointed it out, she corrected herself by saying it was lightly toasted, which (and I quote) is sort of grilled. I am kicking myself for not just walking out upon our entrance, as my husband suggested. I cannot get over the funky, dirty-mop-water smell and the sticky, filthy floors.
